You mean this S4 that tanked Samsung stock last week due to slowing sales? Not sure if that is the model Apple needs to be following at this time giving its own stock plunge.

I'm sure IF Apple thinks there is a viable market for a larger iPhone it will put one out there. I'd bet it already has prototypes in its sunk works. But the market has yet to prove 1) larger phones have general, not niche, selling power, and 2) they have longevity and not a fad.

I can much more likely see Apple making either a larger iPod Touch or a smaller iPad mini for the 6" crowd that uses their large screen phone as a small tablet rather than a phone.

I would be happy to sell 10 million unit's of something tomorrow and have you call me a failure, whilst I lay in the sun. ;)

Anyway, my point is that it is nonsense to dismiss a concept as "ridiculous" given there is a proven market. Just because sales are slowing to the point where the corporate greed benchmark decides that this is a failure and effects share prices, this cannot take away from the reality of 10 million sales and therefore 10 million customers.

Go home Apple, you're drunk!

Apple? This is a rumor. Maybe the reporter is drunk? Maybe you are under the influence of something for believing it, but Apple hasn't said a peep so I don't see how you can accuse them of being guilty of a crime not yet committed. Do you work for PreCrime? Director Burgess is that you?

A 5.7" phone is huge... but who's to decide if it's too big or not big enough !

Then again — phone is such an old-fashioned word.
I wouldn't mind a 5.7" PocketPowerStation
with an option to... phone home.

Dear Apple go to 4.5" and stop there. thats the best size for a smartphone.

That's your opinion, not everyone else's. Obviously the Galaxy S3/4, and the Note 2 have been extremely popular, so Apple has to be investigating phones of this size. I hope they release phones of this size, sooner rather than later.

I say the iPhone 5 is the perfect size, screen and overall. I don't want to take a back pack or oversized belt clip just to carry my mobile, I like using one hand, I don't have big chunky fat fingers or poor eyes.

the iPhone is already the ideal size and soon with eyes free Siri in the car etc it sounds like it will utilise the display on connected devices if need be.

If it ain't broke don't fix it

It's the perfect size for you, not everyone.

Oh c'mon Apple sold that with iPhone 5 in what? 2 weeks? I don't think they should just start pumping out huge phones because every other company is doing it,if there is any advantage in going bigger they should but making it bigger just because isn't the way to go besides if they do that then developers would have to support a 4.7-inch iPhone,a 5.7-inch iPhone,a 4-inch iPhone and a 3.5-inch iPhone, thats way too much iPhone versions and besides which resolution will they use for the 4.7 and 5.7 inch ones? they can't just keep doubling it otherwise they won't have enough GPU power for it.

I did not say that they should make larger phones. I for one, am not in the market for a larger phone.

However, I [and at least 10 million others] do not consider a larger phone ridiculous either.

I sincerely hope these large screens will not see the light of day. I don't understand how people can handle such big screens. Even the S4 Mini is most certainly not "Mini". The iPhone 5 is stretching the limit for me.

I guess for some reason the whole world has pockets that were designed for giants.

A 5.7" iPhone in combination with iOS 7 would be a match made in heaven. Let's face it, the 4" screen is no longer effective or enhancing. The strain on the eyes is too much to bear. It is torture. And while on torture, the iPhone badly needs Swiftkey and/or Swype keyboards. And soon. Agree with others that waiting a full year for the rumored iPhone phablet is way too long. We need (nay, demand) it in 2013. The low cost and 5s versions can certainly wait.

iOS 7 has a system feature for increasing text size. That solves that. But, really, why are you on this forum? Android phones are clearly what you do it should be using.

They should just make a USB dongle with 4G, SIM slot, and voice baseband processing to let you make GSM calls on a 27" display. The iCall.

4.7 would be great. I would love to watch SkyGo on it.
I am glad that Apple has beginning to listen to customers.
I wish they had done this last year. They would have dominated the Smartphone market. I hope next year is not too late.

They should just do it because realistically over 6 inches you are in tablet territory and under 3.5 inches is too small for a smart phone.

So it’s this narrow range between 3.5-6 inches that any iphone in the future will need to fit in, you are not going to have to add more and more sizes forever, realistically just 2 more sizes (4.7 and 5.7) max. In this way fragmentation can be contained, it's not a major issue and you'll the whole spectrum covered, no one can then whine that the screen is too small or too big.

Course, maybe the circular wrist phone could impact things, if that happened maybe candybar phones might go the way of the dinosaur and this will all be a moot point.

agreed....4.7 is believable, but 5.7 I do not see happening.

Whatever it is, they need to do something fast they are losing ground to Samsung and some other MFG's.

If they keep thinking 1-2 models of phones with 3.5" or 4.0" will keep selling, they are in for a big surprise. While I think a 4.5-4.7" is reasonable, there are those looking for the 5+" screen size, so anything is possible

I'm afraid I will have to stick with the 4S for a while - 3.5

You clearly haven't used an iPhone 5 for a week. It's lighter, thinner, feels smaller because it's thinner, it's faster and better in every way.

Chill. Samsung is selling way more small phones than big ones.

I have told myself I am comfortable with my 3.5" screen or even the iPhone 5 size screen, however if I saw a 4.7 (which is likely large enough) or a 5.7" I could be tempted as in some ways I like the dual use as a small tablet along with a phone. Yet it is a bit too larger in other ways, I really have no issue with my 4S.

Of course if they went this way I think they should have options, I know there can be issues with that and they would want to keep options simple, 4" screen and one larger one.

An additional size. Not a replacement. The 4" model will still be the big seller.

Apple is intentionally leaking information to judge market reaction to their ideas. It is free and a great way of getting feedback. Don't worry if the general concensus is that 5.7" is too big, they won't launch.

They are definitely not doing that.

But the huge success of the Galaxy S3, and the Note 2 should prove that there is definitely a market for larger screen phones. Even with the concerns over slowing S4 sales, I've gotta assume 2 likely scenarios. A. people don't want a Galaxy S3(S) i.e. an S upgrade from Samsung. Or B. they've sold so many S3's that the amount of people willing to upgrade to an S4 just isn't there. Regardless, Samsung seems to do much better in Europe/Asia than they do in the states, and I'm sure they will be fine with the S4 as their flagship for 2013.

Edit: I just saw this too. Galaxy S4 is selling well, says JK Shin

While I'd much rather see the iPhone to stick to it's current form factor, with perhaps an edge-to-edge display and the current White or Black options. I do see Apple bringing multi coloured iPhone's, whether to this 'low-cost' iPhone or to the flagship.

The market is pretty much telling Apple to keep on top they need to expand the iPhone range to keep competitive.*

* I could be totally wrong.

People have different needs. I have a Samsung Ativ S with a 4.8" screen and I love the size. One of the reasons, why I no longer consider buying an iPhone is the small screen of the iPhone. But this is just my opinion. Other people prefer smaller screens. That's why other manufacturers offer phones in different sizes. This whole discussion is pointless.

And I've an iPhone and hang out on Samsung forums.
