Can't be mad, but it figures that it happens on the year that I finally decide to upgrade from my 3.5-year old iPhone SE.

What's a few more months, right?

Though I guess this definitely means I need to pop in for a battery replacement once the Apple Stores reopen.

At this point just scrap whatever is in store for 2020 and release the 2021 model in summer 2021. We should just go back to the summer releases! And it's not like the 2020 model is going to be all that different anyway, especially since 5G still sucks in a lot of areas. With smartphones being this mature, an 18-24 month cycle makes more sense anyway. Then there will also be less waste. I usually do the iPhone Upgrade Program so they can refurbish and resell it, but if I'm going to have to wait additional months I might as well pay off my 11 Pro and sell it at the end of 2021 or give it to my wife since they don't seem to be updating her SE to something the same size. Otherwise the following year on iPhone Upgrade Program I'll have to wait until December or January before I have an upgrade or I'll have to pay a large fee. That happened when the iPhone X came out a couple months later and when I got the XS they made me pay the difference to upgrade early. I was pretty pissed about that and went ahead and paid it to get back on the regular cycle. Figured we wouldn't have to deal with this again. This time I'm obviously not upset because everything is crazy in the world, but like I said I'll just wait for the next version then. And that's assuming I still have a job by then. My company lags 6-9 months behind the rest of the economy.

Makes sense to me in light of the current situation. I know I've implemented a spending freeze on anything other than food and a few other essential services until things start getting better which could be late this year or most likely next year (hopefully). I guessing there are a few others that have done something similar. This is going to be slow motion train wreck.

I see no problem with doing so. There is nothing worse than trying to sell something that you cannot make enough of and that very well could be the case given the level of production in China right now.

At the moment I’m not sure anyone can predict with any certainty the eventual impact of the virus on many things including manufacturing, so a delay wouldn’t be a huge surprise. Hopefully though we shall all be happily surprised and the virus will disappear soon. Stay safe folks

Just release a stop-gap upgrade of the 11S, 11S Pro and 11S Pro Max. Introduce just enough updates to incentivize those who truly need a new phone. Save 5G and the big upgrades on the 2021 models.
If Apple can’t give us a 5G iPhone with ProMotion display and LiDAR this year, then it makes more sense to release it in June or September 2021, maybe with an added feature or two that was originally meant for the 2021 iPhone (embedded in display TouchID version 3?). They just have to combine the 2020 and 2021 iPhone teams.

Mid November would be good. Depending of course on the virus. We might still be in lockdown in June. That would suck.

I hate to be negative, but I've seen some economists saying if we're still in lockdown in June, there won't be any economy to come back to nor will there be an iPhone 12 or anyone with a job to be able to afford it. Apple might have oodles of cash to stay afloat a long time, but few other companies are in that state.

So, I would try to think a lot more positive than that if you really want an iPhone 12.

I think it's high time now for ...

Apple Engineering team (from the silicon to the motherboard and case design team) work on a way to have all components connect without ribbon cables internally and without the need for human hands for assembly.
Hon Hai aka Foxconn to work with Apple to manufacture this ... even to start with low end iPhone devices.

This will really piss off a few within the Chinese government due to job ... however these facilities do NOT have to be in China, now Taiwan or within India. For a cheap cost Apple could off-set workers with education for CAD design and electrician engineering education.

just a humble thought. I don't think this has ever been done by any manufacturer.

Being selfish for a sec....nooooooo!!!!!

I’m so looking forward to trading in this Intel-powered ...thing.
This is the first time I’ve held on to a phone for three years instead of two because Apple seems to be switching to a three year major refresh cycle, and I happened to bust the glass in my camera a couple months ago when I was drunk. I’ve been limping along with money set aside telling myself not to buy the 11 because I’ll regret it when the 12 comes out... bah... I hate my busted old X. First world problems, I know, but I already convinced myself to wait an extra 12 months longer than I usually do. It’s hard to wait even longer than that.

Kind of a deal breaker for people on the iPhone Upgrade Program because it screws up the 12 month upgrade timing.
Agreed. That’s going to suck if I have to make 14-16 payments instead of 12. At that point, it would be better to pay it off and sell it as the phone will still have more value.
(Yes, I realize it has that at 12 mark anyway, but I like not having to mess with selling it)

They really don't need to release another iPhone. People are still trippin' over the 3 camera system in the Pro's... which btw, my wife's Christmas gift 11 pro max still carries a $1,000 Balance!

True, and I’m not complaining because things are going on that are obviously bigger than a new iPhone release, but it does suck for those of us who have been holding out with older models waiting for this year’s release.

A lot of people won't be blowing $1000-1500 on a new phone after this is all over. A new anything for a while anyway.

A lot of people are gonna be out of work for a while even after it's all clear, and won't have any disposable income.

Apple may need to rethink their profit margins if they want to sell anything in any large quantities.

Apple should just skip it. 5G infrastructure is minimal as well as advancement in other areas. Work on making a knock out phone next year. Or put more effort in the smaller phone... maybe giving 4gb ram instead of 3 gb ram.

I think the justification for yearly iPhone releases is coming to an end anyway. There's really no need.

I really hope so in the fact that I think consumerism should and hopefully will take a major hit after this pandemic.

We don’t need the latest phone, brand new cars every 3 years, new clothes etc

we need to start saving for the next rainy day.

this event has been a major wake up call for me
