Delay is a blessing in disguise to redesign it to be more mask friendly to prevent a big flop.

It would be weird if they weren't talking about it, but the fact that they're talking about it says nothing about the chances of it being delayed (which as of right now are low).

Apple holding out as long as possible to make decision. Too many variables that could change. India now in quarantine for 21 days Which means Foxcon is closed but 21 days means nothing if they go back to normal. Time will tell
Biggest positive factor is that Apple has been working on this iPhone 12 for a couple years so they’re in the final stages

I don't understand the logic, the first 5G iPhone must be an hit.
In the end, they need to sell phones and make money. This fall, less people will buy a new one, that's an easy prediction. If they need to delay it for 1 or 2 months I don't think it is a huge deal, it happened with iPhone X and even the Xr wasn't launched in September. I don't think they'll skip the 2020 iPhone though. It won't be as successful as the 11, but some people will buy it. They'll lose money if they won't sell anything this fall.

Honestly, they could just skip the whole upgrade and wait until 2021. The phones are already advanced enough, during this 2 year haitus they could take the time and bring better innovations and work on making iOS bug free.
They could just release new colour and some sort spec bump.

My problem is that the 2020 iphone was my upgrade year phone, as I am still with an older one. I want to know if they are going to skip a year, so I can take the plunge and just by the 11.

Being selfish for a sec....nooooooo!!!!!

I’m so looking forward to trading in this Intel-powered ...thing.
guess you have the Xs Max hehe i have had all iphones since the 4, and this one is by far the most strange one yet. some functionality not available compared to other iphones, functionality which has been there since the first 4 i had. looking forward to the 12 with gigantic 6,7" display :)

No big deal. Most people have larger worries about when and if the next iPhone will be released this year. Priorities!

From now on consumers will be boycotting all Chinese products. At least I don't want to buy anything manufactured in China after China has repeatedly caused critical global pandemics. So I would strongly recommend Apple to produce their phones outside China.

Honestly, I'd rather see new iPhones, Galaxies, etc every 24 months. Phones don't get that much better within a 12 month period. I'd like to see companies dedicate more of their time to software improvements and optimization. Look what happed with iOS 13... blech! iOS 11 was also garbage, no?

It’s a no brainer if you ask me. Add in that worldwide 5G deployments are going to be delayed by COVID-19, a September launch doesn’t seem necessary. Maybe November at the earliest.

This makes sense to me.

I'm doing OK with my Xr right now. A phone upgrade is a way I treat myself from time to time (I don't gamble, smoke, drink, or anything else expensive). I would like to wait to upgrade until a 5G iPhone is available. I understand the networks aren't there yet, but I don't want to wait another 2 years to upgrade again. my Xr is almost paid for.

I may just hold tight. MY Wife has an 8 with a destroyed battery in it. I tried to get her to take it in last year for the free replacement, but she wouldn't listen to me.

Going to milk this iPhone 7 for as long as possible...it's begun to get annoying with the lag I'm now seeing.

However, an iPhone launch schedule is the least of our problems with the state of the world today.

This makes total sense. Apple has a lot of markets to ship to whenever they launch a new products, especially first tier markets like US and Japan. If their volume production has not yet been able to fulfill the volume, makes sense to delay it rather than having disappointed consumers and bad optics.

True, but in light of what’s going on, this is the only situation I wouldn’t mind paying for a few more months as I know I should be grateful to even be in a situation to be considering a new iPhone.

Apple is preparing to delay the launch of the 2020 iPhones expected to be equipped with 5G technology, according to sources with knowledge of Apple's plans that spoke to Japanese news site Nikkei.

Apple has reportedly held internal discussions about the possibility of delaying the launch "by months" over fears of how well iPhones would sell in the current situation, and supply chain sources also believe that "practical hurdles" could push back the launch date, which was scheduled for September.Apple is monitoring the outbreaks in the United States and Europe and assessing whether a delay might be necessary. A final decision could be made around May at the latest, with Apple perhaps waiting to finalize the timetable for the launch until the work from home order for its employees is lifted.

Apple this week told employees that it planned to extend the worldwide work from home order until April 8, with stores to begin opening once again in mid-April on a staggered basis. MacRumors heard from a source this morning that stores in the United States will not be among the first opened.

Nikkei says that the engineering development of the 2020 iPhone lineup has been affected by travel restrictions to the United States, China, and elsewhere. Apple was meant to work with suppliers to develop a "more concrete prototype" for the new iPhones in early March, but had to delay the collaboration until the end of the month before postponing it again. Suppliers believe that given where Apple is in the engineering process, the possibility of a delay "is looming."

Some suppliers have, however, been told to defer their mass production schedules for about two to three months. At this time, suppliers have not been notified of a possible change in the production timeline and Apple is urging many of them to make up for time lost due to recent disruptions. "We are not giving up yet," said one of the sources that spoke to Nikkei. "We are doing whatever we can to sort the issue out."

Apple's discussions are said to be in the early stage, and the fall launch is not "completely off the table" yet. In a worse case scenario, though, the 5G iPhone could be postponed until 2021.

A recent report from Bloomberg suggested that the iPhone 12 models are still on course for a fall launch despite disruptions to Apple's supply chain, and Foxconn this week said that it now has enough workers to meet "seasonal demand."

Rumors have indicated that Apple is working on four new iPhone models for 2020, which will be available at various price points. All models are expected to have 5G capabilities and A14 chips, and higher-end models are expected to be equipped with new 3D camera systems like the LiDAR Scanner in new iPad Pro models.

This (and all previous pandemics) start with raising and/or killing animals to eat them. Mostly wild animals captured in the wild or raised in horrible circumstances.

And we’re not doing any better with 80% of antibiotics going to life stock, just to keep them alive until we slaughter them. Antibiotics resistance is on the horizon. But we’re not changing anything. Eating meat is still a thing

Same with climate change. Are we going to take the Corona pandemic to change our greenhouse emissions once this is over? No.

Will people boycot Chinese products? or Apple because it produces in China? No.

That kind of thinking is very unpragmatic. No one could 100% confirm where the virus truly originated from and the virus could have circulated around Europe for a considerable amount of time before reaching out to another continent without showing signs of severe symptoms.

The first country to report a new strain of mutations does not mean zero patient and it's more complicated to infer from the outcome since it became pandemic in such a short period of time.

it came from one of those horrible wet markets in Wuhan. As early as December 2019. Jumped from an animal, most likely bats and/or pangolins. Don’t invent stuff.

I think the justification for yearly iPhone releases is coming to an end anyway. There's really no need.
I agree. And while we’re at it, just one iOS every two years, with tried and thoroughly tested feature updates in the “in between” years.

This could be interesting for next year's sales. Folks like myself who are on the iPhone Upgrade program trade our in for the newest model every year because we only end up having to pay half the Phone's value, not bad. With the delay, it's likely that I would just keep it another year and pay it off. I wonder how many others would do the same.

I probably didn’t pick the best time to finally try iPhone 11 (just a few days before the closures started — ironically I purchased it because I was expecting to start going out more and I was ready for a change).

With the potential delay of iPhone 12 (which I’m expecting to potentially not use PWM on its OLED models) it’s a little more tempting to keep it since I do like the design and gestures but I’m a little frustrated that it’s still not a definitive upgrade over the 8+. The display does look more natural but I can see the difference in resolution. The lower-resolution display really doesn’t do the cameras justice. Haptic Touch is much better this year so losing 3D Touch isn’t as much of a loss as it was on the XR but I’m a bit torn over it.
