What makes you think that very many people are going to have money for holiday shopping this year? Are you a spokesperson for Apple? So you *know* for a fact that Apple is not going to let "anything" stand in the way of releasing a new phone model? Not even a pandemic or a market crash will stop Apple, is that what you are saying? If there is a delay, it wouldn't be much past mid-October. Apple is not going to let anything stand in the way of a new phone model and the holiday shopping season.
I seriously doubts "months" is correct.
Kind of a deal breaker for people on the iPhone Upgrade Program because it screws up the 12 month upgrade timing.
Was there a new virus spreading worldwide during the other times?I've heard this yearly delay rumor for the umpteenth time. Please! 🙄
It hasn't.
It’s a no brainer if you ask me. Add in that worldwide 5G deployments are going to be delayed by COVID-19, a September launch doesn’t seem necessary. Maybe November at the earliest.
Three blocks in Toronto downtown is not "Toronto".https://www.whistleout.ca/CellPhones/Guides/5g-availability
Is 5G available in Canada?
Short answer: Yes!
Longer answer: Rogers has launched their first 5G network and it's now ready for Rogers Infinite customers in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. At least 20 more markets get access to Rogers 5G by the end of the year. It will soon arrive on Bell and Telus with roll-outs to cheaper and regional carriers over the next two years. The new Samsung Galaxy S20 5G family are the only smartphones sold in Canada confirmed to work on Rogers 5G. Out-of-market models like the moto z4 with 5G moto mod will not work on Rogers 5G at this time.

"As the first national carrier to introduce unlimited data plans and 5G to Canada, we're proud to exclusively bring our customers the first 5G smartphones on the country's only live 5G network," said Brent Johnston, President, Wireless, Rogers Communications. "This is the beginning of 5G and as it evolves, it will deliver more capabilities including speed, latency and capacity. Rogers Infinite and unlimited business data plans will make it possible for our customers to take full advantage of this next generation technology."
It's deployed in one of the most congested areas of Toronto, where it's most needed after all, and that area includes both the University of Toronto downtown campus and Ryerson University. Just the enrolment of students in those two campuses accounts for ~100000 people, and that's not including the bazillion other people in the area.Three blocks in Toronto downtown is not "Toronto".
Especially reading some of the articles from 2006-2013 that predicted another SARS/Coronavirus-like outbreak. Even if we all get immunity to SARS-CoV-2, we should definitely all be prepared in case another pandemic occurs in our lifetime.I really hope so in the fact that I think consumerism should and hopefully will take a major hit after this pandemic.
We don’t need the latest phone, brand new cars every 3 years, new clothes etc
we need to start saving for the next rainy day.
this event has been a major wake up call for me
I was thinking November too. It’s a no brainer if you ask me. Add in that worldwide 5G deployments are going to be delayed by COVID-19, a September launch doesn’t seem necessary. Maybe November at the earliest.
March 2021 might be more fitting, considering how things are going.
Apple is preparing to delay the launch of the 2020 iPhones expected to be equipped with 5G technology, according to sources with knowledge of Apple's plans that spoke to Japanese news site Nikkei.

Apple has reportedly held internal discussions about the possibility of delaying the launch "by months" over fears of how well iPhones would sell in the current situation, and supply chain sources also believe that "practical hurdles" could push back the launch date, which was scheduled for September.Apple is monitoring the outbreaks in the United States and Europe and assessing whether a delay might be necessary. A final decision could be made around May at the latest, with Apple perhaps waiting to finalize the timetable for the launch until the work from home order for its employees is lifted.
Apple this week told employees that it planned to extend the worldwide work from home order until April 8, with stores to begin opening once again in mid-April on a staggered basis. MacRumors heard from a source this morning that stores in the United States will not be among the first opened.
Nikkei says that the engineering development of the 2020 iPhone lineup has been affected by travel restrictions to the United States, China, and elsewhere. Apple was meant to work with suppliers to develop a "more concrete prototype" for the new iPhones in early March, but had to delay the collaboration until the end of the month before postponing it again. Suppliers believe that given where Apple is in the engineering process, the possibility of a delay "is looming."
Some suppliers have, however, been told to defer their mass production schedules for about two to three months. At this time, suppliers have not been notified of a possible change in the production timeline and Apple is urging many of them to make up for time lost due to recent disruptions. "We are not giving up yet," said one of the sources that spoke to Nikkei. "We are doing whatever we can to sort the issue out."
Apple's discussions are said to be in the early stage, and the fall launch is not "completely off the table" yet. In a worse case scenario, though, the 5G iPhone could be postponed until 2021.
A recent report from Bloomberg suggested that the iPhone 12 models are still on course for a fall launch despite disruptions to Apple's supply chain, and Foxconn this week said that it now has enough workers to meet "seasonal demand."
Rumors have indicated that Apple is working on four new iPhone models for 2020, which will be available at various price points. All models are expected to have 5G capabilities and A14 chips, and higher-end models are expected to be equipped with new 3D camera systems like the LiDAR Scanner in new iPad Pro models.
