They should do the same thing for incoming phone calls on iPhone.
This is what I said in another thread 'iOS 13 Expected to Feature Dark Mode, Redesigned Volume Indicator, Improved iPad Multitasking, and More' (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...tasking-and-more.2177996/page-3#post-27285308), and I couldn't agree more!!

'I'm all for it!!

Nowadays the importance of phone should be demoted to having the same importance of messaging apps / other apps. Who wants to get interrupted when you're racing against time for trading stocks? or when you're about to win a game?

Android has had this implemented long ago. It's about time iOS caught up with this.'

This would be great. I completely disable Siri on my IOS devices because it is so lame and intrusive, but it would be nice to keep a couple of features left on.

Maybe I expect less but I find it quite useful. And I recently discovered that I can spell at Siri. A major improvement in my mind. What are your issues?

iOS 14 will revolutionise user interaction and deliver a more streamlined Siri experience, just like iOS 13 did for volume.

‘somewhat improve’ I might agree with, but ‘revolutionize’?!?

Are you trying to channel one of the presenters at an Apple event or something?

Or maybe you’ve just been drinking a particularly strong batch of apple coolaid.

It's obvious that the iPad was nothing but a tablet-sized iPhone since its conception. Otherwise, it shouldn't have taken this long to port desktop features and best practices to it. What's curious is that Apple is adding productivity features, considering they've downplayed the pro crowd for years to chase consumers. Perhaps this is a repeat of history... the typical consumer has no need for an iPad since they are attached to their phones. Meanwhile, the creative professions have discovered some potential uses for the iPad even if it's not a replacement for their desktops. Thoughts?

Just implement Siri and calls like Android that don't take up the whole screen and can be swiped away.

This should also happen on the iPhone, it's super dangerous especially when driving.
  1. Driving while navigating with Google maps
  2. Ask Siri a question
  3. She answers
  4. The freaking Siri screen just stays there, taking up the entire screen, forever, obscuring the navigation
  5. You have to manually return to Maps while driving, taking your eyes off the road
If Siri has answered your question, it should just go away automatically dammit.

Oh and you know what's worse? Shortcuts. Ask Siri to execute a shortcut, and the screen switches to the Shortcuts app and just sits there even after executing it. Like, why do I have to see it? There is no need to see or interact with any of it, why does the entire app have to come up on the screen and then just stay there? Do the thing I asked and then leave me alone.

I've found that Siri goes away if I literally say "Siri, go away". I have to do this a lot because ever since I started wearing the new powerbeats (never wore airpods because they don't fit in my ears), Siri thinks I'm speaking to her every time I walk into my apartment and greet my cat, Sadie.

Say "Hey Siri" when using an iPad, and Apple's virtual assistant will take over the entire display, obscuring whatever you were doing on the device. Say the same thing to your Mac, however, and Siri responds in a more multitasking-friendly way by appearing in a small window in the corner of the screen, allowing you to drag and drop retrieved items from it.

This less disruptive, more functional implementation of Siri in macOS may well be coming to iPad, although it's unlikely to appear in the first version of iPadOS, which is due to be released this fall. The possibility was hinted at by Craig Federighi, Apple's VP of software engineering, in response to an email sent to him by Apple user Juliano Rossi.

Responding to Rossi's request that Siri on iPadOS behaves like on the Mac, without filling the entire screen, Federighi wrote:

As Federighi's response suggests, adding this less intrusive Siri behavior would require some significant changes to the OS, so it's not something that could be included at this late stage in software testing. But as Portuguese tech blog iHelp BR notes, it's at least good to know that Apple is aware of the legitimate request, which would bring iPadOS even closer to the macOS experience.

Apple often considers user feedback, but sometimes takes a while to act on it. For instance, the company eventually responded to multiple user requests that it change the volume level indicator in iOS. When pressing the volume buttons on iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or earlier, the volume indicator displays in the center of the screen, obscuring content. As of iOS 13, coming this fall, the indicator is smaller and appears at the side of the display in a less intrusive manner.

Unveiled last week during Apple's WWDC keynote, iPadOS is designed to bring more desktop-class functionality to iPads with bigger screens. iPadOS will incorporate several features that recognize the tablet's function as a potential computer replacement, including a new Home screen, an updated Split View to enhance multitasking, and improved Apple Pencil support.

[doublepost=1560183409][/doublepost]Good, now next is getting rid of the annoying incoming phone calls that also take over the entire iPad, keeping the user locked out of any work until either tapping ignore or answering the call on the iPhone or iPad.

I want to be alerted of calls, but locking the entire device until the call is attended was very short sighted.

Can we get the same thing for calls? I don't need anything full screen. Just give me a small bar I can swipe away.

The screenshot is literally right there, how are there so many mistakes in the quote
I loved this when I saw it on Twitter. I got an email reply back from Phil Schiller once. Only a fellow nerd can understand how fun that is.

But...

He didn't definitely say that a less disruptive Siri behavior is coming in a future update. He just didn't. He pretty much just said "Thanks for the feedback!" It's crazy how the internet has just taken this and run with it.

IMO SIRI deserves its own app for easier invoking and texting interactions, like Google Assistant does. Maybe also merged with Spotlight search. Voice interaction should live as a notification of the SIRI app.

It'll look like the way it does in CarPlay: a bar visualising the audio. The switch to full screen was to implement the now less needed "tutorial", showing examples of what you can ask. People are more comfortable talking to voice assistants these days so the training wheels can come off.

Apple has forever changed the way users interact with their personal volume setting, and when you allow the bar to move to the side of the screen the technology also moves to the side, allowing you to experience a more intimate relationship with your content.

Yes, you are completely channeling an apple presenter. Well done with the Jony Ive impression!

I'm talking about just using the iPhone as it is, not CarPlay.

I understand that - I'm just pointing out that it shouldn't be overly difficult to do the same on an iPad or iPhone if they can do it on the CarPlay screen.
