Television sets and computer monitors used to be round (check out the photos of the huge SAGE NORAD consoles), just like ancient mechanical dial clock faces. I think the world has decided that rectangular is better for information displays.

Apple invented the modern smartphone and operating system while everyone else was ripping off Blackberry.
Or ripping off Palm. But the original 68k PalmPilot UI toolkit itself was a near rip-off of the original 68k Mac UI toolbox. So everybody is ripping off Apple's (licensed) spin on Xerox PARC and U.of.Utah work.

Not necessarily. Apple has its “cheap” line of items such as the SE line. Even cheaper, the SE line did not perform as expected which links to people still choosing Android over a cheaper Apple device. I do agree with the idea that even with a cheaper device, Apple’s goal is to sell you as much content as possible while gathering your data and analytics (from SE devices.) This includes your health data (from the watch SE) which could potentially be gold to them. Just thinking differently...
The SE is still pretty expensive compared to the cheap Android phones available. Even to those who can afford the SE but not a flagship iPhone, they might prefer the brand that's focusing more on cheap phones.

These two reasons alone are why I keep wearing my Garmin.
And they are both good reasons. The biggest reason I switched to an Apple Watch is for the cellular connection. I have a rare health issue and being able to share my location with my family, have maps, all my music, podcasts, phone, and wallet with me all without needing to carry my iPhone 11 on a run is awesome. All I run with now is my Apple Watch and it is liberating and comforting.

The day Garmin adds a cellular connection and ups its game with some of the smart watch features, I’d go back. I’d also go back if I were my younger self and running like I used to. But for me, the Apple Watch is a great device even though it’s not that good looking.

I do still have my Garmin though, for the day I hope I will get back to some runs longer than a half marathon!

I was always under the impression that Apple only sold anything because it looked good. Yet here we are saying the Apple Watch looks ugly but sells by the boat load.

Im confused as to which it is.
You think the notch looks good?

And what would those standards be?

Surely, you can't be serious.

Starter watches like Seiko and Citizen... 100-500 dollars.

Low-tier luxury like Omega and Tag Hueur... 1000-5000 dollars.

Mid-tier luxury like Rolex and Breitling... 5000-10000 dollars.

High-end luxury like Audemars Pigeut over 20 grand.

The Apple Watch only costs 200 at entry.

That isn't expensive, and suggesting that it is is asinine in the watch world.

Air-Tags proves my point which you seem to be completely missing. Samsung heard rumors of air tags, threw spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks by hastily bring to market a watered down tagging device, and brainwashes people like you to say "Samsung is first! True innovators!".
Nope that’s not what i said - i say apple is a copy machine - and i say samsung has a different approach.

but yeah - apple like not other develops its copy machine to great products - mostly - services will - Apple Music seems to have its fans.

i say don’t always blame samsung for their approach - its different and not unsuccessfully - if you see how even apple copied some of their innovation.

i'm not saying what you said. i'm saying samsung copies Apple based on rumors.
