Said yet another way. conservatives are easier to buy and more corrupt?

Just a thought...
Perhaps. Conservative approaches to wealth building have been more successful overall for the country, compared to a “tax the rich” approach; and the “buying” of those on power may be a small part of it.

I prefer not to delve into a conversation about whether conservatism or liberalism is better :D

Suffice to say, that either approach has their bad actors and corrupt politicians.

Peace! :D

This is sickening to me to spend any money on the current state of power struggles. I know it’s just been a little over a month, but an interest free loan to the government workers forced with no paycheck right now would go a lot further.

I'm Australian, and if any Government here used a mass number of Gov employees as leverage over the opposition to pass a piece of legislation there'd be mass protests, I think. How any political leader could do that is beyond me. And I understand Mitch McConnell has the power the end the shutdown? You'd think the most powerful nation on earth could just end this and work it out without making 800,000 (plus their families) suffer.

Tim should have told Donald that Apple will be paying for his wall. I'm sure they don't even need to put an effort of lobbying. :D

We need a revolution. Something has to change.

Government gives insane amount of money back to corporations. Corporations spend insane amount of money lobbying the same government. It's like an endless loop of greed, politics and money changing hands between those who have and those who have a whole lot more.

While the rest of Americans struggle to make ends meet...

The revolution takes place at the ballot box. And as long as the oblivions and sheeple of this country continue to vote the same people into office decade after decade (people who have long forgotten what an average American is), than nothing is going to change.

Trump was handed a growing economy and even though he did give it a bump through a tax cut package, he’s undermined the tax benefits by waging a trade war. Moreover, most economists agree that Presidents have, overall, a relatively small effect on the economy. It’s hard for one person to steer a $20 Trillion marketplace.

I also seem to recall Republicans hyperventilating about Obama ruining the economy even as their 401ks kept going up every year and unemployment kept dropping. Also, Trump is doing what a regular Republican like Romney would have done, with the exception of the trade war. It’s just, you know, we get the craziness and lying on top of all that.

Shh! They don't want that factual information! Get it out of here! :p

Right...because Trump is such a fountain of truth.

Thank you for explaining that - I had looked through it before and I got the impression that it set an explicit legal precedent in terms of corporate campaign financing (a narrow aspect of more general lobbying) and one that is unusual in a Western democratic system.

To be sure, it overruled a previous precedent. But in doing so it put things back in line, when it came to corporate free speech rights, with how they had been previously been. Generally speaking corporations are protected by, e.g., the Bill of Rights just as individuals are. (At core that's because it is, when we think it through, the rights of individuals which are really at stake even if those individuals are acting in the context of a corporation.) There can, of course, be exceptions.

I'd also try to make another thing clear: Citizens United had nothing to do with campaign contributions. Corporations are still prohibited from donating money to political campaigns or parties. But they are free to speak to issues on their own (to include in connection with elections), and that (as is the case with so many of the rights we enjoy) necessarily means that they are free to spend money to facilitate their own speech.

All centralized power, throughout history, turns into a cesspit of corruption. It is the nature of things and worth understanding, instead of candy-unicorn utopia thinking.

I'm center left, but I do not believe in some sort of utopia of diversity and equality for all. Its just never going to happen. And you're correct, all throughout history centralized power, becomes corrupted and fails. Here's hoping one of the most centralized powers, China, will burnout to nothing, because as I see it, the greatest threat isn't Islamic radicals. its China.

Agreed. And with the inept negotiators we've had in office previously we've sold our soul to other countries. It's time we pulled a bit harder on the Global Tug of War and right the ship. Countries around the world have ridden on our back for too long. President Trump is the first to realize this and not do 'business as usual' and take a cut under the table to keep the status quo.

How else does Michelle and Barack leave office both worth $140 million within one year?

Her book deal is worth an estimated $65 million. Her current (November 2018) net worth is estimated at $40 million, not $140 million. And "within one year" of what?

Isn't Apple paying more to this administration?

Prove it that the Conservatives have been better for the economy/people from history.

I prefer not to delve into a conversation about whether conservatism or liberalism is better.

And, don't distance yourself fro the statement you just made - stand by it.

Neither is better - there is middle ground.

Perhaps it is Apple recognizing the opportunity of their money being more effective under a conservative led government?

Said another way: they’ll get more done under this government, so they’re being opportunistic?

or it's not working.

I'd like to see the comparison at Google and Amazon. Especially with how he seems so against Amazon.

Tech doesn't seem to be the big business Trump likes.

Unemployment rates hide Underemployment rates, which means that most getting new jobs are in short-term, unsteady and part-time jobs. But, go on, continue with the talking points and platitudes. The course the country is on requires you to be participating in the dumbest Bird Box challenge yet to not see.
Look at his username. "Pepe" is a symbol of the alt-right. You aren't going to get anywhere speaking sense to someone as pathetic as that.

Lowering unemployment rates for near 3 years now doesn't mean short term, unsteady jobs. If those low #'s were due to that, we'd see spikes which we have not. So something seems to be working.

Bur keep up with the talking points to reinforce your blind hatred for Trump. He's not been the best but he's far from the worse. Things that matter to the everyday American seem to be doing better. He's actually trying to address illegal immigration, something the past 4 Presidents kicked down the curb.

If we all wanted to end lobbying for good we could. See, every year we vote. When you go to vote, if the person is called the Incumbent, vote for the other person, ideally one not with a D or R after their name as both parties are equally corrupt. Keep doing that and get them out every time they get in. Then you will see change as lobbyists will have little power as it will be a revolving door.

This has to be one of the most ill-informed replies I could've gotten. This is like you took all the platitudes given on Faux News, Rush Limbaugh, and Breitbart and summarized it poorly.

The unemployment rate has been falling since 2009, Thanks Obama! Underemployment was the problem then that we continued to talk about as being a problem since it was flat... and it's GROWING now, an even bigger problem.

Illegal immigration is virtually non-existent - the ones most frequently tagged in these discussions, are people that just overstayed their tourist Visa. Again, Thanks Obama! He solved the immigration problems just fine and there's been a steady, irrefutable, decline in illegal arrivals since he put in place his programs and, having been the most aggressive with deportations of any modern president, the total population present within the US is the lowest it's been since 1970. Whoops! So much for kicking things down the curb.

"Both parties are equally corrupt" -- is the type of thinking that explains why we have a criminally corrupt, morally absent, total moron as President. They are not equal, they aren't even on the same plane. You have 2 choices, a vote for a 3rd is a vote for the corrupt right. Trump just isn't the worst President of all-time, he has *already* set the bar to unreachable levels and it keeps getting higher.

Well, Apple , Amazon , Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. , all based in the US , all making maximum profit for minimum social relevance .

Legalized bribery in an otherwise stable country sure works for some people - if you consider corporations being people, that is . ;)

The only leg you guys have to stand on. Even though he was handed an economy on the upswing from a recession.

And funny how the national debt and balancing the budget are only a concern when someone else is in office. What's the national debt now with the tax break for the rich?

And how many peoples 401K's dropped with the stock market dropping from our "leadership"?

And I'm sure all the federal workers agree about the wonderful job Mr Twitter Fingers is doing.

What has Trump done specifically to take credit for the so called “record low unemployment?” I’d like some actual facts to back up your regurgitated talking points.

Can't stop laughing....
I would laugh if it wasn't so sad.

Yeah so great, it's going so well for you guys. Once the full extend of the disaster that the ORANGE MAN is causing will hit the world economy, he hopefully won't be in office anymore and you can go blame the dems again for what he caused. Fantastic! Make America great again!

Now they haven't been. It's just typical of vulture capitalists....they only see the short term and not the long term. The economy was going to be great regardless. The next president will have to clean up all the trade war damage and reassure allies going forward that Trump wont happen again. The logical next step for most countries will be to insulate themselves from any fallout related to US actions.

This is something that blows my mind every time I hear about it.
In the rest of the world, lobbying == corruption and bribery.
