Perhaps. Conservative approaches to wealth building have been more successful overall for the country, compared to a “tax the rich” approach; and the “buying” of those on power may be a small part of it.

I prefer not to delve into a conversation about whether conservatism or liberalism is better :D

Suffice to say, that either approach has their bad actors and corrupt politicians.

Peace! :D
I'm going to disagree with that. The wealth building conservatives like means wealth building for a few people while everyone else suffers. Sure wealth was created for the top 2% but at the expense of everyone else. After the last two conservative presidents we were left with a recession when they were handed a relatively good economy by their predecessors. It remains to be seen the full impacts of the Trump presidency. The federal workers aren't happy that Trump shut down the government over a promise he couldn't possibly make good on and instead of just saying he tried to make Mexico pay for the wall but couldn't he decided to stick it to the American tax payers and Federal Workers. I'm sure that many people will now avoid working for the government for that reason alone.

Im okay with Tim Cook playing the game. It's what he has to do right now until we get more AOCs in congress.

Agreed. And with the inept negotiators we've had in office previously we've sold our soul to other countries. It's time we pulled a bit harder on the Global Tug of War and right the ship. Countries around the world have ridden on our back for too long. President Trump is the first to realize this and not do 'business as usual' and take a cut under the table to keep the status quo.

How else does Michelle and Barack leave office both worth $140 million within one year?
They're not paying their fair share for all the trouble they have caused around the world?

The revolution takes place at the ballot box. And as long as the oblivions and sheeple of this country continue to vote the same people into office decade after decade (people who have long forgotten what an average American is), than nothing is going to change.

What 3rd party candidate has a realistic chance when $6.5+ billion went those great media institutions to try and get the USA public to choose between a pair of frankly horrible human beings that clearly don't care about a large part of their population beyond how it will serve their own dynasty (yeah, my government's donations to the Clinton Foundation(s) dropped by 80% after 2016 - but sure, there was no buying of influence going on there - yes, it annoys me because that was my tax <insert monetary unit here> disappearing for "influence")

This has to be one of the most ill-informed replies I could've gotten. This is like you took all the platitudes given on Faux News, Rush Limbaugh, and Breitbart and summarized it poorly.
Funny how the left never likes facts.

The unemployment rate has been falling since 2009, Thanks Obama! Underemployment was the problem then that we continued to talk about as being a problem since it was flat... and it's GROWING now, an even bigger problem.
Let's see the data for unemployment:
upload_2019-1-23_13-48-3.png

Looks to me that it peaked around late 2010 or early 2011 and then went down with the same bumps we're seeing. Funny how coming off a very large recession that the job market would "bounce back"... It wasn't all Obama or Trump. But pro business does tend to put people to work.

Illegal immigration is virtually non-existent - the ones most frequently tagged in these discussions, are people that just overstayed their tourist Visa. Again, Thanks Obama! He solved the immigration problems just fine and there's been a steady, irrefutable, decline in illegal arrivals since he put in place his programs and, having been the most aggressive with deportations of any modern president, the total population present within the US is the lowest it's been since 1970. Whoops! So much for kicking things down the curb.

Actually that's false.

Listen to This American Life #665 (https://www.thisamericanlife.org/665/before-things-went-to-hell) Act One. It's an interesting look at immigration issues from the 90's. One thing they touched on was the # of illegals - there were ~3 Million then and now it's ~11 million. This American Life is hardly a right leaning podcast.

Then there's this paper: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0201193
I'll leave you with this chart:

Not declining but plateauing with a slight uptick in 2015.

"Both parties are equally corrupt" -- is the type of thinking that explains why we have a criminally corrupt, morally absent, total moron as President. They are not equal, they aren't even on the same plane. You have 2 choices, a vote for a 3rd is a vote for the corrupt right. Trump just isn't the worst President of all-time, he has *already* set the bar to unreachable levels and it keeps getting higher.

Please spare me the nonsense drivel left talking points. Please cite sources to back up this nonsense.

Absolutely SICKENING.

Some people on this forum need to put on their big boy pants, stop banging their wooden spoon on their high chair and grow up.

For sure on that. I've been waiting two years for that to happen in the White House. So many whines and toddler outbursts.

Somebody needs to get him a bottle and soft blankie. Stat!

And funny how the national debt and balancing the budget are only a concern when someone else is in office. What's the national debt now with the tax break for the rich?

Debt is a concern and one area he needs to work on.

I'm far from rich and got a little more in my pocket thanks to the tax cut. Yes, I track my pay down to the penny.

And how many peoples 401K's dropped with the stock market dropping from our "leadership"?
I'm well up from a long period of stagnation. Off of the highs but still well up.

And I'm sure all the federal workers agree about the wonderful job Mr Twitter Fingers is doing.
I think both sides need to come to an agreement to get people paid. It's getting ridiculous at this point and both need to compromise. No breaks, no travel, no pay, no raises, nothing for Congress, Senate, and the President until this nonsense is ironed out.

Doesn't need to be a third party candidate. Out with the old and in with the new. Just continue that cycle until the politicians start to "get it".

"Lobbying" is just a polite word for bribing to make it sound legit. But that's what it is. That's how govt in the USA work$.

It is bribery in one sense when most companies want to lobby to pay less tax. But did you see Apple is also lobbying for rights with autonomous vehicles, to work on new products and technology.

Past companies would have had to do the same with the FCC and phone communications. Like they’d be doing with 5G now.

If these companies don’t lobby we’d have some pretty outdated laws and no cool new technology.

This administration is doing a great job. Unemployment rate is at a record low, especially for African Americans and hispanics. But go on, keep yelling ORANGE MAN BAD
Tell that to the people working while the government is in a longest shutdown ever

Not everyone thinks that gaining money is more important than being a good, honest person. I have to say though, I'm disappointed that so many of the members here upvoted a comment like yours when even your handle has white supremacist overtones. Shame on everyone involved.
Shame on those who happen to think differently than you? Well that’s terrifying.

Once upon a time Thinking Different was encouraged. Now if you don’t fall in line with the approved dystopian talking points, you are aggressively attacked and your life ruined. No thank you.

It's pretty awesome that you just proved everything I just said, yet fail to even be able to read the charts you give. You posted a line graph that literally showed the unemployment rate falling since 2009! See that line over 2010? That's where 2010 starts. See the line to the left being higher? That means it went down before it got to 2010. See how if you go halfway between 2010 and 2012, it's lower than where the 2010 line is, but higher than 2012? That's because it's continuing to decline in that time.

You dared to call out bumps when there was likely a monthly increase as though they're years! You also fail to note how it seems to have flattened where 2017 would have started, and using your "bump" logic, you should be panicking cuz it's markedly pointing upwards where the line ends... oh no!

Unemployment has been declining since 2009. Thank you for providing a citation of your own choice to prove my point.

And *I KNEW* you were going to use the very, very, very, very incorrect PLOS chart. If the PLOS chart was accurate, then the ENTIRE CENSUS would have been incorrect ***FOR DECADES*** and birth records would have also noted this in the years after census'. So, to put it directly, your chart is BS.

As far as the real numbers... you'll have to wait until Trump accepts his loss and the government re-opens for this one, but they're available here:

It’s really interesting how many pro-trump comments get upvoted. Indictments are being handed out like hotcakes and people still spouting nonsense about how great this administration is doing.
Are you really saying MR members shouldn’t support our incredible economy? Peace with NKO? Historic GDP?

Y’all must be too young to remember the bad days. We will miss this economy at some point in your lifetime, count on that. Prosper while you can.
[doublepost=1548273393][/doublepost]
What has Trump done specifically to take credit for the so called “record low unemployment?” I’d like some actual facts to back up your regurgitated talking points.
The same thing he will do when he’s out of office (2024) and the economy crashes.

Orange Man Crash Economy.
It’s entirely his fault men, women and children are starving.
Anything good is Obama’s legacy.
Anything bad is Trump’s legacy.
All things remotely bad are and will always be MUH DRUMPFs fault.
There is no middle ground...dems cannot ever do anything wrong ever. Sounds legit.

I didn't.

And no, I am not going to buy an iPhone either.
You’ve demonstrated peak virtue signaling. Take a bow, it’s an impressive accomplishment! We could all learn from you!

Donald Trump: you made a bad mac pro 2013, Tim...

Tim: (gulp) i’m all about politics, social issues and money.

Her book deal is worth an estimated $65 million. Her current (November 2018) net worth is estimated at $40 million, not $140 million. And "within one year" of what?

His comment is probably derived from education by memes ... it amazes me how people actually believe Trump is some type of genius savior taking on the world to better life for the average citizen. So, far he's a international joke, has hurt numerous companies with his tariffs and trade wars, cut taxes mainly for the wealthy, without cutting spending that added 2 trillion to the national debt, and all those indictments ... oh, yeah, I forgot the "deep state" manufactured all of that ... pfft

Yeap, isn't it basically a company giving money to a government party in return for 'favours' or laws and regulations that help give the said company an advantage? Really not a good thing.

The most hilarious thing is "The Left never like facts" then posts facts that do not support his claim.

The hallmark of the Trump GOP **is** fake news, conspiracy theories, lie upon lie upon lie from their dear leader. Anti-science, anti-evidence based opinion. **sigh**
