I don't usually speculate on this stuff, but that graphic has me wondering whether they're of bring more 3D stuff back into the interface? 3D without skeumorphism? Flat, but at multiple depths? That could be kinda nice... (Yes, they already have this to a degree, but it's not really featured at all.)

I really hope the top one gets it, and yes, I grew up in the San Diego area...
OSX Cuyamaca
OSX Jacumba
OSX La Jolla
OSX Jamul
OSX El Cajon
OSX Mojave
OSX Julian (ha! I got you!)
OSX Escondido
OSX Santa Ynez
OSX Pismo Beach (Bugs Bunny fans will like that!)
OSX Los Osos (That's just fun to say!)
OSX Petaluma (to the Snoopy fans...)
OSX Siskiyou

- OS X 10.11 Redwood. We've has oceans and mountains. Lets go for trees this time.

- Compressor built with FFMpeg and truly 64bit rather than the old quicktime engine.

Don't care about much else. Surprise new hardware would be nice but not holding my breath.

That's a lot of squares with rounded corners.
That means only one thing:

An Airport Express Update!

I hopesombody gets fired over this Apple TV crap. It's like the third year in a row... I'm not even going to watch WWDC now. That was the whole reason to watch to begin with.

To be fair, broadcast and encoding standards are in limbo. UHD/4K is right around the corner. They would be wise to have deals in place when 4K is ready, but we're not quite there yet.

To all of you trying to figure out the code in the banner... there is not one they have stopped doing that. You are looking a App icons. The squares are iOS app and the circles are Watch apps. Please remember that this is a developers conference.

Software wise, I'm hoping that iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 are just optimised for stability, bug fixes, and better performance on older hardware. I sometimes wonder that if hardware advances had stagnated, how much performance could you get out of simply optimising software. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I remember my iPhone 4 was like absolute butter on iOS 4 when I first got it … :D
Nostalgia yes, but also true, absolute butter!!

And commentards? Kindly ease your head our of your sphincter if you wouldn't mind. People might find that kind of talk a bit gratuitously offensive.
Commentards is not an offensive term. You obviously don't read theRegister.

The irony in your next two sentences was delicious. :D

I get what your saying - but the centre group of those squares are black, and that's an unusual choice where white negative space would have looked cleaner; so unless ios9 is going to be using black icons: its atv related ( and in the light of recent speculation that could still represent an atv sdk if not actual hardware) There's definitely a network vibe in the graphics, so maybe it airport related or a combination, but I'm not convinced about the dropped atv NYT piece - sounds like reverse marketing to me. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to Monday...

The center squares are purple... So unless Apple makes the Apple TV purple that doesn't make sense either. :)

Whoever pick's Apple's tag lines needs a break. They've gone from clever and mysterious to obnoxiously arrogant and hyperbolic. C'mon Apple get back to your playful but humble attitude.

Exactly. Reading anything else into the banner is silly.

Oh grow up and stop being so melodramatic. Did Apple promise you they'd include it? Does anyone know CATEGORICALLY that they won't?

No and no.

PS: you'll still watch it; I'll bet the ranch on that.

Good morning all! I'm a new forum user...

My prediction is the center is reference to the Apple TV, with an overhead view of the current Apple TV, the smaller squared originating from the center are the apps that will available on the Apple TV.

I'm hoping there is truly an overhaul to the current Apple TV. I love mine but I'm really bummed there hasn't even been a UI refresh in years.

It would be cool if Apple followed some guidelines of the "material design". I just feel Google's implementation of Android feels so much better than Apple's shoddy UI, with various inconsistencies. Google does "flat" design, but it's not 2D flat like Apple. They really did better than Apple here, in my opinion at least.

We don't need a full-blown redesign like the mess that was iOS 7, but updating the icons would be nice, and adding a dark theme so my eyes don't get blinded at night by that horrible white. Also, f.lux out of the box, but this is a very distant dream.

Woah... hang on a sec, you want Apple to look to Google for inspiration in aesthetic design and UX? Wow... I'm stunned by the sheer hilarity of that proposition. As much as I absolutely love material design, let us not forget who conceived the H.I.G., and who is only JUST beginning to learn the baby steps of something vaguely similar...

Should Apple also abandon C-based languages, and move to Java based ones? Scrap the current Xcode, and look to IntelliJ/Android studio for inspiration? LOL. Ok, I am being facetious, but you get my point.

Erm... just no.

Why not? They copied a lot of things from Google, Google has copied a lot from Apple too; this would just be one more.

Even Microsoft has better flat design than Apple. Apple was good at skeumorphism...maybe a little too good.
