They haven't "cracked" TV yet but people really think they are going to mass produce cars?
These things are not even remotely related.

Until Apple buys (builds) a battery factory I am cautiously optimistic. It would be nice for Tesla to have a true long range EV competitor. None of the other auto manufacturers seem to be willing to compete in that arena.
Well who else builds batteries that could go in an electric car in the quantities they would need? Currently Tesla is having to build a factory to do it. Frankly batteries are the most expensive part of the model s at around $180/kwh.Until Apple buys (builds) a mobile phone factory I am cautiously optimistic that they will release a phone. Oh, wait...

We did. But Apple didn't heed our decision. They just continue with their secret plans and ignore the decrees of the MacRumors commenting crew..I thought last week we decided all this car business was just Apple hiring street view mappers?
Huh? He wasn't CEO.Senior Vice President of the Chrysler Group, I wouldn't call this a good hire Chrysler manufacturing is rubbish.
And yes he was top dog so he takes the blame for the rubbish Chrysler produces
LOL. Though I wonder why Tesla currently gets their batteries from Panasonic and not Samsung...
This car manufacturing stuff reminds me people saying Apple for sure would make a television set. The TV rumor is older than 10 years and so far nothing has happened.
I see the car rumor going the same route. I just don't see Apple moving into that either. Like TV, they better off creating the tech to use in partnership of car manufacturers than creating a car itself.

Ah, thanks.Panasonic is the market leader, Samsung has only recently purchased Magna Steyr to move into the market.
I had two ROKRs before the iPhone Launch. Kludgy but i loved that it eliminated having to carry both a phone and an ipod. Then when the iphone came out, I could also get rid of the blackberry. And now I have a wallet cover for my iphone so no more wallet. basically all i carry now is the iphone and one key to my front door (I sold my car to eliminate the second key).Does anyone really still believe this is all about a suped up CarPlay or infotainment system for existing cars. Jeff Williams says the car is the ultimate mobile experience. Jony Ive hands off day to day duties so he can work on "new ideas and future initiatives". There's no doubt my mind Apple is working on something big here, much bigger than CarPlay. CarPlay is like iTunes on the ROKR.

Apple will team up with Tesla. The Apple car will use the Tesla Supercharger network, and Apple will expand it for Tesla in trade for using what's already been built out.
On one hand that will be great for experience, on the other it will suck for the folks that are really good at haggling.Apple stores will be how Tesla cars are sold. Not sure how many Tesla cars they can fit in the Apple store though.
True. The market leaders are currently Panasonic, AESC (which supplies e.g. the batteries for the Nissan Leaf), and LG Chem. Samsung SDI is actually one of the smaller players at the moment.Panasonic is the market leader
Or the music industry, or the mobile phone industry. That would be silly. Apple Computer didn't get to where it is by looking for new markets. They make computers. It's even part of their name.Don't be silly. They "have a laser like focus" regarding their products. They certainly wouldn't move off into the fashion industry or the vehicle industry. They will do what they are good at.
Actually, things have happened with TV. Apple has in fact employed a team with the task of finding out if Apple could make a TV that has added value compared to current TVs that would make building them a profitable business, and they haven't found a way to do it. Not surprising for me, because a TV is for the biggest part just a huge screen, but worthwhile spending a few million dollars on investigating whether you have a chance of making a few billion. The project failed, and the team was dissolved quietly.
They will do the same with cars, and probably other areas. And they will succeed or they will not succeed, but it is a really cheap investment.
I have hard time imagining Apple creating factories, garages, maintaining cars, distribute, warehouse, dealership such large products that cars are. I could be wrong but this is such a huge departure from their core business.
