Disliked by who exactly? A very small group of elitist that’s who. Outside of that, 99.99999 percent don’t care ?
Maybe in adult groups but I can attest to high school ages teens, the number who care outweighs those who don’t. It’s a serious “thing” for teens to have Blue Bubbles.

Considering the price of a Rolex and the market, luxury market etc. Why is Rolex even in the title? Wouldn't the comparison be against FitBit, Samsung and other competitors? If most of the US own iPhones, it would then likely mean x mount of those users would own AirPods and Apple Watches.

I do have a few friends that have iPhone, AirPods but have an Rolex and would never buy an Apple Watch
It was asking kids what their favourite is. Not what they have. Rolex has been the watch brand to beat for year. They’re comparing preferences not if you can afford one.

Yeah, but how many of those teens wear the Rolex Daytona Oyster Reference model? They didn't break down those numbers. Apparently things are going much better in our country than I thought.
Good point. I bet most of these scrubs are only wearing an Oyster Perpetual, essentially a Timex.

I feel like we need a tighter definition of what a watch is. The Apple Watch is just a small computer that people wear on their wrist. Yes, it can keep time, but so can your laptop and phone. Are iPhone's watches? Obviously not. So the logical deduction would be the put the Apple Watch in a brand new category. Maybe call it a wearable computer or something. Because calling it a watch is ridiculous imo.

I use to wear expensive watches. Then, just for fun, I bought a $9.99 Casio with a cheap rubber band and lo-and-behold if it isn't the most durable, dependable watch I've ever owned. I'm now a convert lol

So many people in this thread know nothing about watches and specifically Rolex. There is a 3+ Year wait for almost any Rolex right now internationally. They don’t even keep lists anymore. The grey market is chatgjng double MSRP. None of these kids, basically no one, is buying Rolex.
Which is it? wait list or no wait list? My local Rolex authorised dealer does have a wait list for the hard to get watches (Daytona's, Submariners GMT's etc) but the more you've purchased from them in the past then you'll jump a few places in the list and the quicker you'll get your desired watch.

I can't wait to see the headline in a few years, where is says males aged 25 are more likely to buy the Apple Car ahead of a Ferrari...

I’d love to see how these kids are actually getting Rolex watches. They probably aren’t buying at retail prices. They would have to buy a lot of other watches before an official Rolex dealer will sell them a watch. Maybe they are using their rich parents connections to help buy a watch at retail.

Rolex increases its production very little each year. They sell practically every watch it makes.
It could be any of this, or it could be that this study is bollocks.

Rolex lead the market share in Swiss watches.

True, but the high end watches like Patek and AP make faw fewer units so it' not surprising Rolex outsells them.

However the entire Swiss watch industry is loosing market share to Apple.

That said, I'd imagine if you can afford a Rolex, you'd also be able to drop cash on a new Apple Watch as well.

So yeah, I personally think Rolex are still doing fine and Apple is quite possibly the least of their worries at this juncture.

I thin an Apple Watch and a nice watch are not really direct competitors in terms of how they are viewed. Both have a place in teh market.

In Southern California, the official Rolex dealer’s men’s shelves are practically empty. The official dealers are the only place I can hope to pay retail. There are other non-official retailers that will happily sell me a GMT II for x2 retail.

I guess it varies by market. Where I am and when I am in Europe dealers had a decent selection of the run of the mill models.

The official retailers have wait lists. I think these are for show. I had someone explain it to me like this: people who has a relationship with the dealer are much more likely to get the watch they want. Me, walking in with 30k to spend, I’m no one. They have people who have spent hundreds of thousands over the years. That the people they want to take care of.

Of course. Any dealer of anything takes care of their good repeat customers. That's good business.

I do agree Rolex acerbates the situation by controlling stock to keep up the "hard to get image." Personally, I find a used one a better deal in most cases.

I am not a big Rolex fan, too many copies, preferring Omegas. But that is just a matter of personal taste. Then again, one of my favorite watches is a $20 Marvin the Martian Quartz whhere teh case is a frontal view of Marvin's helmet. Keeps great time as well.

These articles putting Rolex in the conversation are always funny to me. Especially when they claim Apple Watch eating into market share in the Watch industry. I’m surprised G-Shock didn’t come up in the article. Reality is many that own a high end watch also own another watch.
I believe Apple Watch regenerated interest in the Watch industry. There was a generation that stopped buying watches altogether. They were just using their phones for time and date. Apple Watch got watches on peoples wrists again and sparked interest into what else is out there.
Rolex is doing just fine. As many have mentioned, long waiting lists for hot Rolex models, a huge gray market with giant markups. Oh and right now, every Rolex is high demand.

I have a decent number of expensive watches but also some that cost under $100. There can be joy and collectibility in things at all price ranges even when they essentially all do pretty much the same thing. That said, I still prefer any mechanical or even quartz watch to a smart watch. Tried the Apple Watch and it just wasn't for me.

Let me know where I can get a new GMT for retail price and I’ll fly to Europe on a vacation trip to buy one lol.

Rolex doesn’t make the best watches. They aren’t the most accurate either. But they make many of my favorite watches that should be attainable if possible to purchase at retail.

I think my favorite watch is a Patek. I would need a wealthy friend to ever be in the position to buy one.

I don’t understand the concept of a watch that you have to recharge every night. I understand the AW as a fitness accessory, or iPhone accessory. But it is not an arm watch for me.

A lot of folk don't wear traditional watches in bed, either.

It's all what personally works for you. I went from zero watch to 24 hour Apple Watches (Series 1/3 and now 3/6).

the 'wait-list' is fake, either you're in, or you're out.

I think that is what they have become. They are less a watch and more of a wearable fitness/health device that also tells you the time and can provide you with some smart phone capabilities.
