Apple Pay and Venmo aren't really comparable, even though they both technically do the same things. Every time I've seen someone request p2p money, it's been cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, or even BTC.

Disliked by who exactly? A very small group of elitist that’s who. Outside of that, 99.99999 percent don’t care ?
It's a legitimate concern when someone with an Android phone gets added to a group chat and it becomes nearly unusable for everyone.

Considering the price of a Rolex and the market, luxury market etc. Why is Rolex even in the title?
Cause each person only wears one watch at a time, and people do wear Apple Watches in similar circumstances as Rolexes. Honestly I'm surprised Rolex was so popular, given the prices. Do kids get to say they prefer it when they can't even afford it? Cause then Ferraris are probably quite popular among 16yos.

All this article tells me is teens are spoiled!!!! Median household income of ~70K and parents are buying their kids iPhones, Apple Watches and Rolex's!!!! This is what's wrong with our youth, spoiled by technology and everything that goes along with it and then corrupted by social media, no wonder suicide rates are skyrocketing! Kids should have a flip phone and a Casio! What kind of parents let their kids have all this??? Maybe i'm wrong maybe they are all using cheap old iPhone 3GS phones and not newer ones and the Rolex's are really the $25 dollar versions you find in NY street shops.... Parents should be ashamed of themselves!
Smart phones are how teens talk to eachother, check homework, apply to, well, anything, etc, so are you nuts? Hell, it's the primary computing device for most folks under like 25. A teen without a smartphone these days is completely cut off from the modern world...

This is literally a thing in the US because of iMessage because we apparently can't be bothered to use WhatsApp or Facebook Chat like the rest of the damn world. Humorous.

My local Rolex dealer wll sell one to anyone with the cash; unless your talking something really hard to get. But that's pretty much true with most expensive watch brands.

They'll only sell models nobody wants. Walk in, tell them you have cash and would like to buy a Submariner or Daytona. They might literally laugh at you if you haven't already purchased multiple watches from them.

On the other hand, walk into an Omega (direct competitor) showroom, tell them you have cash, ask to purchase a Seamaster or Speedmaster. Of course, sir, here, choose from these 58 SKU's we have in stock of each..

(sorry; I'm a watch guy, and Rolex's artificial shortages drive me nuts)

My kids use their iPads to do research for school projects, take online classes, read books, watch movies, play video games, etc, as well as talk to friends. My middle child, who wants a career in digital art, also uses hers to work the skills she'll use one day to earn a living.

This whole neckbeard "kids need nothing" attitude is ignorant. Sort of like when I was a kid, and the mother of two of my friends (who were brothers) would kick them outside and off their computers, telling them what they needed was to be outside. Fast forward to today, both have successful careers in IT, and every cent both of them have ever earned has been via computer skills... yeah, you were doing them a world of good there mom.

Oddly enough, I've seen Submariners for sale and when I expressed interest they were happy to offer it for sale; and I was just a walking. It may vary by geography. In fairness, that was pre-pandemic so things may have changed since then. A big dealer by us closed so I wonder how that will impact availability.

Daytonas? No way.

I prefer Omegas to Rolex, I think they are a better value and more interesting; but that's my taste.

Yea, it pumps up prices. Rolex has done a fine marketting job convince people there watches are somehow special and thus worthy of the price. Nice watches, but there many equally good ones for a lot less, IMHO; and better ones at the same price point.

My understanding is that people buy Rolex watches as a way of showing off that they are rich. As such, I don't think the price point is an issue. If anything, the higher price tags is actually a badge of honour because it implies that you have to be of a certain financial status in order to afford one.

Being able to get a "better" watch for less may not mean anything if the other brands are unable to convey the same message that wearing a Rolex signifies. If you thought buying Apple products was a form of conspicuous consumerism, buying luxury Swiss watches is a whole other rabbit hole.

I don’t know if there are artificial Rolex shortages. I’ve read that Rolex increases production very little year over year. Could they produce more? Probably. They can already sell every watch they build. It’s not in their interest to flood the market.

PC at home for homework and messaging is fine. There's no real reason for a kid to have that in a pocket.

Smartphones became popular through middle/high school for me (born 1996), and I don't think older people get how sucky it is now, nor do younger people know what they're missing. Kids played games and went on Facebook all day (later Snapchat). I didn't have my own iPhone til 12th grade, but childhood around me was still... very nerfed.

Smart watches are even more pointless, sorry. I get it if you've got a hobby for biometrics, but that's not the common case.

If that’sa legitnate concern for you, maybe it’s time to rethink something’s….
SMS messages don't deliver sometimes, so plans will get screwed up relying on that. I'm not asking for a lot here.
