Like it mattered whether a teen wants a Rolex ?
1) in general teens spending money is a significant portion of the consumer economy, there’s a reason ads target teens so heavily

2) there are, in fact, a lot of teens from wealthy families out there, enough absolutely to influence the luxury goods market. I’m not kidding when I said earlier in the thread that a lot of my HS classmates wore rolexes. You’re talking about kids whose parents were billionaire investors, famous celebs, important lawyers, CEOs, wealthy financiers… the parents of my HS classmates were a pretty good cross section of the wealthiest in the US. These kids bought *boats* for specific trips, a several thousand dollar watch was pocket change. It’s still, as someone who has never even been close to that income class, odd to think about how different a world my HS friends and classmates lived in, and now live in, than the rest of the country.

Rolex's are pretty much just jewellery for guys really. The whole mens watch industry is just jewellery.. not really comparable to the functionality of an Apple Watch.

The funny thing is, when I realised that they all cant actually keep time anywhere near the accuracy of £30 Casio I just laughed... what a crazy world!
Mechanical watches will run for a long time if taken care, Casios will run you forever, electronic watches will be useless paperweights in years after it’s outdated by the latest and greatest model. There’s many pro’s and cons to all but at this rate I’m put off by using my Apple Watch since these last updates from apple have made it completely useless. Can’t even use the walkie talkie features anymore unless i manually delete my friends on the receiving/end of the watches.

ah ok. I sleep with my 6 and have no real issue finding time to charge it (usually while showering, driving to work, or eating breakfast)... but I can see how it'd be nice to just have a "sleep watch" lol.

Aside from a quick shower I'm usually 10 minutes from bed to desk. By lunch is my breakfast.

I could do it in the evening, but by then my brain's too fried to think about it!

This talk of Rolex vs. Apple is a false dichotomy. Rolex is (for the most part) a piece of jewelry, and Apple Watch is (for the most part) a piece of technology. The only similarity is that they are both worn on the wrist. If one can afford it, they’ll own both - and wear the appropriate one based on whether they want style or functionality that day.

Wristwatch sales in general were in the toilet by 2015, when the Apple Watch was introduced - particularly among teenagers, it was rare to find one wearing a watch at all (after all, their cell phone showed the time). Apple Watch changed that.

Apple Watch is to a Rolex as a sedan is to a stagecoach. Sure, that stagecoach looks nice - but it won’t do a fraction of what a car will.

It clearly states that the survey asked which brand their "favorite" is - Apple, Rolex etc. Nobody is talking about "owning". I am so surprised about these comments here, do you guys not read?

I got very lucky with 2 in one year. Have to build a friendly relationship with the authorized dealer. Do it right, and you have a nice watch. Do it wrong, and you’re on a “waiting list.”

Yes, but looking at your forum signature, I can tell you aren't the average US teen or even an average adult.

All this article tells me is teens are spoiled!!!! Median household income of ~70K and parents are buying their kids iPhones, Apple Watches and Rolex's!!!! This is what's wrong with our youth, spoiled by technology and everything that goes along with it and then corrupted by social media, no wonder suicide rates are skyrocketing! Kids should have a flip phone and a Casio! What kind of parents let their kids have all this??? Maybe i'm wrong maybe they are all using cheap old iPhone 3GS phones and not newer ones and the Rolex's are really the $25 dollar versions you find in NY street shops.... Parents should be ashamed of themselves!

It's a little odd for iPhone and Rolex to be used like this in the same conversation. Rolex's are utterly worthless luxury items. iPhones are infinitely value utilities.

This survey had nothing to do with ~$70K income households actually buying their teens items like Rolexes. This is about aspirational desires. Teens have long dreamed about owning Ferraris and Lamborghinis too, but that doesn't mean they didn't end up driving ten year old Honda Civics.

Lol far from a teen, and was just replying to a complaint I read in Watch forums all the time about Rolex availability.

I’m very average, I’ve always made a hobby out of buying and selling watches and electronics to fund new watches and electronics.

That watch photo took 13 years of buying and selling watches to hit what I’ve wanted for a lifetime. Started that project with 2 G-Shocks with a high collectible value and traded, bought and sold watches along with a monetized YouTube channel that also helped. It was fun.

Rolex Schmolex

If you want a REAL premier watch get an Omega

Good enough for NASA and James Bond .... nuff said

Having said that I love my apple watch , definitely the most impressive thing apple have released in the last 10 years
Omega just partnered with Swatch and you can buy a $270 Omega Speedmaster. Made by Swatch, quartz obviously but looks like the real thing because it kinda is.

Immediately sold out and they’re now going for ten times that on eBay, even tho Swatch said these aren’t going to be limited editions and everyone can only buy two for now.

cmon now lets face it nearly all teenagers are not able to afford Rolex watches.

the appeal for teens in US is clearly based around iMessage only and the need for changing is just not there.

I'm guessing the survey is catching aspirational choices, not real life ones.

My local Rolex dealer wll sell one to anyone with the cash; unless your talking something really hard to get. But that's pretty much true with most expensive watch brands.

They're good watches, but their advertising makes them seem like the best. Limiting supply give a sense of exclusivity; never mind that, again except for the rare ones, used ones are available at a decent price.
I’m guessing this is a really garbage report or a really garbage article lacking context from said garbage report.

Disliked by who exactly? A very small group of elitist that’s who. Outside of that, 99.99999 percent don’t care ?
I wouldn’t say this exactly.
I guess I would technically be considered Gen Z, and growing up in the United States, I can say that The vast majority of people throughout middle and high school had an iPhone.
Green bubbles ruining things was a very minor, but still real, inconvenience.
I can’t tell you how many group chats I’ve been in over the years were the *one* person who’s got an android phone joins and completely breaks the entire chat.
And The day that these people finally got iPhones, because they always seem to eventually get them just because of how annoying their green bubbleness got, everyone gave a virtual sigh of relief.
So yes, I would say that, at least here in the US were things like WhatsApp aren’t anywhere near the popularity that they are in other countries, and teens are using Facebook less and less, frustration over green bubbles is very real.
It’s not that anyone really hates the fact that another person uses a different phone, it’s just that that phone seems to break everything.
And it’s not just iMessage, it’s also other things like FaceTime, Airdrop and, even though it was used far less often, AirPods audio sharing which was used from time to time between people.
Not just teens either.

Well i'm glad for this trend. My daughter will be a teen in a few years and i can't afford a rolex.

What I learned years ago when my kids were teens is no is not a dirty word.

Just like “work hard if you want it bad enough.” Is not a dirty term.
