Netbooks are the worst. I have a Dell mini9 Hackintosh, 2GB Ram, 64GB runcore SSD, BT, 1.3MP webcam. IOW - as completely bitched out as you can make the thing. And there's only ONE thing I like about it: small form factor and low weight. Other than that...I completely hate it.

The iPad weighs less, has a much thinner profile, and an undoubtedly superior overall experience. And yes I can say that b/c the iPhone already offers a far superior overall experience...

Exactly. But we know when they're released that's it , until the next major release. Is there 3yr old Blu Ray players being sold right now in BB? 3yr old TVs, etc.. ?

Um, yes? Most -normal- people don't buy a new macbook pro every 6 months to a year. The only people bitching about "old hardware" are fanboys on forums that probably just want something to complain about. Just because a new chip comes out, doesn't mean that productivity drops for those using current hardware, or that the existing models suddenly become slow.

It is legit to comment that people are surprised about the lack of questions concerning the MacBook line of the business. Its obvious the big focus is on the iPad, but there is legit concern for the lack of new information on the Macbook and Macbook Pro.

There were also no questions about the Mac Pro update which is far behind the MBP's. The Mac mini wasn't asked about either. The MBP isn't Apple's only product.

Probably not! :D

I haven't seen a CRT on sale in a couple of years! And a few years ago Blu-Ray players were super expensive. I know none of those are still being sold in stores (old Blu-Ray players). That's when they were competing with HD-DVD. Now they're way more affordable. :)

I think Cook's point was, if he wanted to do some actual heavy duty work, he would do it on a fully functional laptop, not on an underpowered netbook with crappy display.

Who said anything about macbooks?

HMMMMMMMMM............

Gee I wonder if that could relate to just about everything.....
Am I wrong? Most devices get updated at least annually. Except gaming consoles. We all know that. No one bitches when a new 360 isn't released the following year. But here we are 3yrs later with the same ATV.

...

netbooks are ok but what they suck at is HD flash video and having a screen thats too small so iPad will kill them for those reasons...oh wait...iPad has no flash at all and the same screen size...nevermind

I thought it would be the perfect travelling companion for a photographer. Think about it: Users can take photos with their digital SLR (the photo sizes are quite large). They can then upload them to storage on the iPad whist showing off their snaps to friends on the large touch screen and then on a projector. Then I realised the thing only has 32GB of space AND a single Apple proprietry port so whilst it is certainly possible, it actually defeats the purpose of convenience since you'll be carrying multiple adapters around when the iPad could have sported USB ports and SD card slots.

The iPad is still a great though unoriginal piece of work well tied into the iPod Touch ecosystem.

Actually, I believe it would be nearly impossible. You could get a SD card adapter for the ipad, but the vast majority of professional still cameras use CF cards.

Why exactly does the ATV need new hardware? Does it run too slowly to do what it was designed to do?

Oh, yeah. I completely forgotten about Apple's other forgotten red-headed stepchild. The Mac Mini. lol Another "hobby" by Apple's sweep-it-under-the-carpet mentality.

So that makes the MacBook Air the most costly failure by Apple; costly for Apple, costly for the buyer. Then AppleTV, followed by the MacMini.

This "Q&A" is more like a press release ohhh so thinly disguised as Q&A session to talk about what keeps Apple in the pink (of health). But strange they don't include any MacBook talk.

You do realize they include laptops under "mobile devices."
Yes, I know that's what they say, but if you think about it the laptops are completely different category. Let me explain: the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch all share the OS, iPod touch and iPhone share the form factor/design and the iPods and the items before share the iPod music functionality/software. So you'll see that these people would most likely work as teams and cooperate within Apple. Where as the laptops do not share anything hardware- or software-wise with the other products. As such they "mobile devices" only in nice speeches not in actual resource allocation.

For the record I buy a new one every year and a half! So I just missed that boat! I'm ready to upgrade my Oct 2008 unibody! :apple:

I'll probably wait until summer to upgrade. I think a lot of folks just want to see the new line-up, whether or not their in the market for a new MBP...

I'm starting to think Apple won't update the MBP's until after the iPad launch.

I wonder if there would be any "waiting" at all if weren't for annoying online forums?

I'm waiting to see what Apple has in store for the updates, and if they are what I have a feeling they may end up being, I'll be buying one of the '09 models. I just have a bad feeling about the direction Intel is trying to go with these procs.

There is far too much waiting when it comes to Apple products.

What do you mean? They are superior in every way. If Apple wants to stick to the same thermal envelope, there are Core i-processors available with the same TDP values.
