Yeah imagine if Apple didn’t invest 4 seconds per app testing their security…
I 100% hate the way they handle the app store security checks, but with a store as large as it is and with the limited workforce they currently employ I get it. Here's hoping they can work out some AI to better to assist with flushing out malicious apps.

They should just do as android does. Let other app stores into iphone. it's on the user then. Apple need not worry. Disclaimer just as they do when you select trust other sources in android. Simple, done. Yep, apple is going to lose revenue of the app store, but greed can only get you so far before peasants revolt, now they are.
This peasant will revolt if that happens.

THIS IS THE FIRST THING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN:

New Law that would require Apple to disclose per-Category Revenue Numbers for (at least) the iOS App Store in the States & in the U.K., & require them to do so at the end of each work week.

Also, that the per-week per-Category Reports should include what percentage was generated by the Top 10 Apps in each category, as well as what percentage of apps in each category generated NO revenue.

So, three columns of data per Category, reported by Apple every week.

Ha! The British government wants tech companies to "follow new rules of acceptable behaviour" perhaps they should look at their own behaviour first! Project after high-tech software project has failed because the British government doesn't have a clue on where to start to make things secure, if you're looking for the end of a software project there isn't one its ongoing, to protect our privacy. You spent millions of £s trying to develop the NHS Covid app, what a failure that was. In the end you had to turn to the tech companies who know what they are doing. The devices that I use have apps on them that keeps my data private on my device! To have any App Store open to every app available that could be side-loaded is true and utter madness.
It's not just tech companies...the UK government wants its citizens to follow new rules of acceptable behaviour...with nightclubs "voluntarily" checking for double jab status before letting people in. "Voluntarily" in this context meaning "you either do it or we make you do it"...just for clarity.

And then that could expand to other "venues where large groups assemble"...like supermarkets and stores you mean??

Looks like your iPhone isn't the only thing that the UK government wants the ability to side load things on...looks like your body is fair game too if you are unfortunate enough to live in the United "Brave New World of 1984" Kingdom

I had my second dose, since then I have been getting teams requests constantly in my ears. FFS!

The iOS App Store can easily become the desert the Mac App Store is today
That's an argument for Apple to make the Mac App Store a more compelling distribution channel for macOS apps, not the other way around. The iOS App Store only exists as it does today because it's the only option for all but a sliver of app distribution, giving Apple essentially no incentive to compete or innovate given iOS’s status as a duopoly with Android, where the terms for the Play Store are more or less the same.

Apple is not giving the user a choice.
The WORLD is giving the user a choice. Buy any phone from any vendor you like. One should educate oneself, though. Because they shouldn’t expect to buy a non-folding phone then, after purchase, demand that it be a folding phone. They shouldn’t expect to buy an Android phone and, after purchase, demand that it run iOS apps.

They have a choice to bow to the fruit, as you say, or not. Some people want to, some people don’t. Smart people think before making a decision, weigh the pros and cons, and then choose what’s best for them.

Companies can compete already, just by putting their apps on the App Store. If there is a chance that a side-loaded app can compromise Apple server infrastructure then I’m going back to a Nokia phone!
They can add an app, but the store is rigged and the search results are curated. If an app uses search ads and IAPs then that app can have 3 places in the top 10 results. Everything is skewed so as to shake down end users. It isn't fair for anyone.

And that’s when I will leave the Apple ecosystem and just spend less on Android. 99% off the reason that I go with Apple is for their view on privacy and malware etc. If it’s opened up then there are just as well made phones from the likes of Samsung, Google etc.
You can still use the app store, but those who want the choice will be able to download from alternate stores that perhaps focus on a level playing field, fairness and transparency.

Problem here is No10. I couldn't trust them to tell me the sun is up. This will not be for anyones benefit apart from brexit flag waving. The two ministers quoted should set alarm bells ringing.
Yet you trust Apple to show you the best results in the app store rather than the ones that make them the most money.

So as a developer and a consumer, the English government wants to take away my choice of selling and buying to a platform where everything is safe, user friendly, and unified. And like most things like this, we can only complain if the rules aren't being followed, we can't complain if we want the new rules to bugger off.
Not at all. They want to give users the CHOICE to get their content from other sources. IF you like the walled app store where apple rips off their developers, no problem. DON'T USE THE OTHERS. Oh, and safe on iOS is a funny term too. No safer than any other platform.

I'm tired of this little insignificant country trying to impose their bluster on the rest of the world. If they try to interfere then maybe Apple should Brexit.

After all, the UK ain't in the EU anymore so don't really matter.

We might criticise them as being totally focussed on England, (insofar as they have the capability of focussing at all), but they are actually supposed to to be the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Spoken like a true american.

Any choice is bound to be more apparent than real. Imagine, you can get your apps from Google, Microsoft, Amazon or good ol' Apple. Even if they all handle all flavours of app, that choice will be illusory as they are all driven by the same need to make money and limited capacity to really compete.

thing is...what if one only takes 5% cut? epic will go to them, be fine, and everyone can get their games there. There will be competition...and it will be good.
