In a video uploaded to its YouTube channel in South Korea today, Apple showed off a handful of iPhone 17 Pro devices decorated with tiny stickers.

The stickers are placed on the iPhone 17 Pro's so-called "plateau," the protruding aluminum area housing the rear cameras, an LED flash, a microphone, and the LiDAR Scanner. The video has the hashtags #PhoneDecor and #iPhoneCustomization.

"Stick it here," says Apple.

The ad is accompanied by a pair of YouTube Shorts.

A single transparent decal with multiple images would be a lot more practical and durable

If something like you want is already made, sure. My daughter covers her phone in various stickers, and changes them out monthly. Themes change based on mood and the seasons.

I think it's fun! More so than the boring gray continental-shelf on the back of the current Pro line.

Given how much my 8 year loves putting stickers everywhere (her closet door is covered, backpack, my wife's cars headliner in the rear where she sits) I can easily see many youngsters doing this. Doesn't make me anymore of a fan of this "plateau" area but clever Apple marketing strikes again.

Because kids are pros.
Pretty bold of Apple to appeal directly to kids. Sure, those stickers can be used by adults too, but would you put any of those stickers on an ad for alcohol?

It's a Korean ad. Have you met 20-somethings, or even 30-something, Koreans?

I don’t live in a particularly affluent area and I still see more ten year olds with last couple years’ iPhone Pros than any other device. I’m the old man (38) out of touch with modern technology with my ancient iPhone 11 (a phone from the 2010s 😱).

Early in the iPhone phenomenon, a problem with one phone being so popular was that millions of people would all have the same phone. But humans are hardcoded for individual expression and phone cases designed to protect a phone also became a way to individualize it.

Apple took that into account with the Apple Watch's easily interchangeable watch bands and later split off the iPhone into several versions, sizes and colours. I imagine they'll do the same with the Vision glasses. People won't want to wear the same exact glasses as everyone else.

The stickers are a reflection of that urge for individual expression. It's also region specific. South Koreans (and Japanese) are really into these. I liked how the iPod Touch had a wrist loop at one point, it enabled adding charms and kept the device secure around your wrist without a case. Would be nice for the next iPhone to have a built in loop.

I am glad someone can read the writing. I was thinking it is ether for Japan or Korea (I suck with foreign languages) and this is totally something China, Japan and Korea would do.

It goes doubly well for Korea seeing as their only domestic phone maker is now Samsung, because LG pulled out of the market (one reason the LG stores are now an authorized Apple reseller for Apple handsets).
I watch a lot of Korean dramas and I have noticed a massive up tic in the last few years of them having way more Apple stuff in the shows and are slowly killing off the use of Samsung use by main characters.

Edit: I love the Jinx sticker in the ad.
