Things like this are why I left iOS before, and became spoiled by bigger screens on Android. I came back for the 6+ (which is a great device), but honestly I don't understand why Apple doesn't allow things like this if the SDK allows it and users want it. The developers should not be so chaperoned. If it isn't a security risk then developers should be able to do it.

How is Android crap? Have you even used it?

Lollipop on my Nexus 5 is faster and more fluid than iOS. Ironic that year old hardware has actually been made faster thanks to Android instead of what iOS does to older hardware.

The first comment for Lollipop from my friend who's a die hard Android fan:

Hey I've updated my Nexus 5 to the newest Lollipop OS, it's quite nice. But a lot of the apps don't work. They won't start at all! ;)

Have decided not to develop for iOS due to it being a russian roulette.

Roulette, but with a very nice payoff for developers who get an app into the top few percent. The potential upside beats the potential downside for lots of development opportunities.

I don't understand how making widgets less useful is supposed to make me want to use them.

The goal isn't to make widgets more useful. The goal is to sell more iPhones. And a less confusing UX is easier for grandma to deal with.

as long as there is no security concern .... why does Apple care what the user/developer puts there? The market will decide if it is a 'good' feature.

I haven't found any widgets that I really make use of - but others like the widgets, so why not - everybody's choice.

That would potentially crimp the ability of Apple to itself introduce such a feature in the future and take the profits out of that. This way, they can get a jump on what features get to be popular and then introduce it in a future iOS, by acing the execution and implementation.

OS X also for installation of different OS X versions if you want and all kinds of other things that are fairly typical of desktop OSs. It would definitely be nice for iOS to be closer to that, but that's not quite how iOS has ever been designed (as unfortunate as that might be).

I know, my point was only that allowing customizations does not cause the product to "turn into Linux"

While I like the idea of Neato, I didn't know that it doesn't use the system keyboard. If Neato built a third party keyboard, they need to use the iOS keyboard extension. Otherwise it always has "full access" to your typed data. Maybe that's why they're required to remove the keyboard or be yanked from the App Store.

To compare this with PCalc is a slippery slope fallacy. Simple calculations don't reveal much personal data.

He made no accusations. He said that it's possible that this could be exploited, which is obviously is.

He's not saying Neato is tracking keystrokes, and it probably isn't. But if Apple allows Neato to have a keyboard, it must allow any widget to have a keyboard, and in the long run one of them have a keylogger is practically inevitable, and would be an awful user experience anyway.
By that line of thought apple should block all keyboards, heck even all apps and the Web browser because they all can be used to steal information.

Fact is people at some point show be able to figure some stuff out for themselves.

Third party keyboards are not allowed to access your keystrokes by default setting. You need to specifically enable "Allow full access" for the keyboard container app to get your keystrokes.

Encountered that with GameRaven. However, the rest of my apps work ;)

How people can defend that goofy excuse for a widget is beyond me.

How dare developers use the SDK and release apps to a store that has ever changing widget guidelines! How dare there be innovation!

same answer as before. So you get that minor skin but still full access to allow them to work better or any other app same answer. The app has access to data you input in any way shape and form and can do pretty much anything it onces it gains access to the internet.

yeah several items do not work well on the ART run time. Apps need to be updated to work on ART.

The Nexus 5 with 5.0 is close, perhaps very close, but it certainly does not surpass iOS in that department.

It's always funny to me when an apple enthusiast takes it personally when someone complains about Apple or one of their products. As if someone dishonored your family name. Would you like to challenge him to a duel too?

I didn't take it personally, it's truly how I feel.

Crapdroid? What are you like 12?

..and Samsuck. SamDung. Jizzmodo. Microshaft. Windoze. Windblows.....

oh the list goes on...

Sloppy is the word I would use to describe it. I tried it when it was free, but I seem to recall not being able to use the delete button after I had made an entry. Deleted pretty quickly.

Before any company does something regarding policies there should be clear path, not change as and what we see fit.. and at the same time confusing the developers

This is how Apple does stuff.

Apple will re-instate this tommorrow ....

We've seen it happen before.

This is what u get when u allow open-ness....... Or didn't Apple understand what this was

Apple never allowed or promised full openness. As for evolving guidelines and making some decisions as they come up, that happens and has been happening in all kids of aspects of life, it's not something new or unique to Apple somehow.

The point is that probably we don't know how neato could have wrong effects on iOS...
But, for sure, the app is interesting and the features too...

That's is an option, which you do on your own risk. On the other hand, it's not an option for this widget to turn off the keyboard.
It is an option to have the widget: if you don't want it nobody forces you to install it.

Lol. Can't believe this forum thread is full of trolls and fandroids. Does nobody even think before spilling the **** outta their head? Widgets and Notification center are available at lock screen. Which means anyone can take your phone and fill up your evernotes full of junk. This move falls in line with Apple's security and making sure only the "owner" of the device can actually use the device.
