My buddy has one. It’s beautiful.Who the heck has the money for that? Did Apple manage to finally sell only one that they made?
Well for work reasons. Using your phone for a meeting closes the ability to walk away from it or use it while in chat. Imagine taking a call or texting on the device you have to use while doing a video meeting. And the fact you $6000.00 monitor lacks a basic function. Why on earth would anyone want a webcam in this? Just use your iPhone. And I seriously doubt people are on video calls with this monitor.
You can take a call or message anyone on any Mac you are using — don’t you know this? And since it would be silly to have a separate video call and audio at once, you just choose which one is more important. But that’s beside the point — the XDR is a monitor for those doing pro-level work — nobody doing serious work on it wants a web cam. If someone needs to see what is on your screen, just screen share — what advantage is there in seeing the person? It’s a distraction — remote communication doesn’t require seeing another person.Well for work reasons. Using your phone for a meeting closes the ability to walk away from it or use it while in chat. When you’re on a Mac with no camera for zoom meetings it’s uh…. Annoying. You can take a call or message anyone on any Mac you are using — don’t you know this? That stand is for a high end pro display. I seriously doubt that you're actually seen a person using that stand, and if so, it's probably a corporate purchase and not something that person has bought with their own money.Probably or people buy them to show off in the office with $999 stands.
You know when I see the person with a $999 stand, I immediate tell the person sucks with money. Bad financial decision. Waste of money.
I know someone with the stand who uses it the monitor for YouTube and sending email. That stand is for a high end pro display. Having considered one a couple of times before, I think the theory that they make these in small batches is probably true. From what I remember, the XDR screens bounce in and out of stock with an ETA of 2-4 weeks when they run out.I can see why it's a popular item with Apple selling a lot of them.
9 to 10 franklins for a stand? i could buy 3 of my current 32" monitors that came with a stand that lets me go almost as low as the aapl stand. or i could put that kind of money to better use for other things
I keep hearing this being parroted, and I really want to know - we know people are buying XDR displays, so who are the people buying a monitor without the accompanying stand?Crazy theory 2) they only stock 1 unit because no one actually buys them. so when some idiot decides to buy one, they're out of stock for like a week while some factory has to haul out the tools and plans to make one more.
Because he’s the only one who can afford it.Tim Cook probably ordered the only one they had in stock.
the ones who prefer or need or already have a suitable VESA arm (or want to save a few hundred bucks), perhaps. It *seems* like the stand is the much more popular of the 2 options; but it is not the only option for the monitor.I keep hearing this being parroted, and I really want to know - we know people are buying XDR displays, so who are the people buying a monitor without the accompanying stand?
Or is there really someone buying the stand by itself to serve as some kind of paperweight of conversation piece in their house?![]()
The ship time on the stand suggests they’re BTO to some degree. Or at the very least, said “inventory”, if it exists, is in China— I would guess these ship directly from China like the Pro Display XDR does Based on the 2-3 week lead time.By coincidence, I tried to buy two pro stands last week; for a work project. Glad I'm able to get them again. People definitely buy them! Another speculative theory, that I have absolutely no evidence for ... pro stands, and pro displays are large, weighty, bulky low-volume items and the inventory is being kept low to make more storage and shipping capacity available for iPhones. You can fit a lot of iPhones in the same volume, so it wouldn't make sense to "waste" that space on a pallet or in a backroom.
