Who the heck has the money for that? Did Apple manage to finally sell only one that they made?
My buddy has one. It’s beautiful.
But he also laments its cost often. He finances it through apple and I joked to him he should have insurance on it. Because for its cost he could have bought a car to take him back and forth to pay off his monitor. 😆
He has a bike.

Why on earth would anyone want a webcam in this? Just use your iPhone. And I seriously doubt people are on video calls with this monitor.
Well for work reasons. Using your phone for a meeting closes the ability to walk away from it or use it while in chat. Imagine taking a call or texting on the device you have to use while doing a video meeting. And the fact you $6000.00 monitor lacks a basic function.

Even if a new Pro XDR Display was introduced, the mount surely would be the same and the existing stand would be compatible. It would be really ****** of Apple to force a new stand with a new Pro XDR Display, especially given the cost of the stand.

You can take a call or message anyone on any Mac you are using — don’t you know this? And since it would be silly to have a separate video call and audio at once, you just choose which one is more important. But that’s beside the point — the XDR is a monitor for those doing pro-level work — nobody doing serious work on it wants a web cam. If someone needs to see what is on your screen, just screen share — what advantage is there in seeing the person? It’s a distraction — remote communication doesn’t require seeing another person.

When you’re on a Mac with no camera for zoom meetings it’s uh…. Annoying.

Probably or people buy them to show off in the office with $999 stands.

You know when I see the person with a $999 stand, I immediate tell the person sucks with money. Bad financial decision. Waste of money.
That stand is for a high end pro display. I seriously doubt that you're actually seen a person using that stand, and if so, it's probably a corporate purchase and not something that person has bought with their own money.

I still remember that keynote when they announced the price for the stand. The sudden applause stop and "are you f**n kidding me?" in the crowd was palpable.

I know someone with the stand who uses it the monitor for YouTube and sending email.
They exist.

I can see why it's a popular item with Apple selling a lot of them.
Having considered one a couple of times before, I think the theory that they make these in small batches is probably true. From what I remember, the XDR screens bounce in and out of stock with an ETA of 2-4 weeks when they run out.

I mean, I'm sure they make more than 5-10 at a time - it's probably like a hundred or a thousand. And then they sell out every month or two.

Edit: Also on the comments about "someone who can really afford or need this wouldn't care about the $999 price for the stand" - oh I disagree. Some people are mercilessly frugal, and I could totally see a lot of people still buying the screen and then getting a $50 vesa-compatible stand and the $200 vesa adapter. Or just buying a vesa arm and clamping it to their desk - especially if they're a business owner lol. Especially if they are the business owner buying it for one of their employees to use.. oh boy...

It's back in stock, seems like it's just a case of them stocking them up in lower quantities.

Wow, that was a roller coaster of emotions reading that article.

I look forward to the next exciting episode of Pro Stand for Pro Display XDR US stock information.

Crazy theory 1) Samsung paid them to be out while the new 5k 27" is launched. Even a kick back of $15 from that new monitor could be big profit for apple compared to all the money they don't make on all the 4x too expensive monitors they don't sell.

Crazy theory 2) they only stock 1 unit because no one actually buys them. so when some idiot decides to buy one, they're out of stock for like a week while some factory has to haul out the tools and plans to make one more.

Crazy theory 3) it's a ploy to convince creatives that other creatives still use macs. "they're out of stock!" creates a sense of "lots of people buy these, they can't event keep up with demand" amongst the crowd.

Crazy theory 4) so many people are buying the pro display xdr, apple can't keep up with the demand

By coincidence, I tried to buy two pro stands last week; for a work project. Glad I'm able to get them again. People definitely buy them! Another speculative theory, that I have absolutely no evidence for ... pro stands, and pro displays are large, weighty, bulky low-volume items and the inventory is being kept low to make more storage and shipping capacity available for iPhones. You can fit a lot of iPhones in the same volume, so it wouldn't make sense to "waste" that space on a pallet or in a backroom.

I keep hearing this being parroted, and I really want to know - we know people are buying XDR displays, so who are the people buying a monitor without the accompanying stand?

Or is there really someone buying the stand by itself to serve as some kind of paperweight of conversation piece in their house?

the ones who prefer or need or already have a suitable VESA arm (or want to save a few hundred bucks), perhaps. It *seems* like the stand is the much more popular of the 2 options; but it is not the only option for the monitor.

The ship time on the stand suggests they’re BTO to some degree. Or at the very least, said “inventory”, if it exists, is in China— I would guess these ship directly from China like the Pro Display XDR does Based on the 2-3 week lead time.

I figure it hasn't been worth the cost of tooling for a third-party to make a stand for Pro Display XDR but you could save like $800 getting the VESA mount and some other stand, albeit a sturdy one.
