why should Unity give the software away for free
I never said Unity should give it away for free. At this moment, I can't even test unity on AVP device other than a 30 day trial

The only way to do it is to commit over $2k/year upfront. Unity should provide other pricing options for indie developers. Ex: I'd be happy to pay 10% royalties to Unity which would be 2x Unreal's royalties. Less risk for indie developers and potentially higher rewards for Unity.

Read the linked article in the OP. Kuo cites the 700-800k as being "market consensus". You'll have to ask him for sources or clarification on exactly what that means. Maybe he saw what you said and believed it? Are you saying that wouldn't be a good idea??

Also, read your own article you posted:

"It is currently estimated that new models with significant changes to the Vision Pro specification may not be in mass production until 2027." To me this implies an AVP 2.

"Kuo does expect a modified Vision Pro to enter mass production in late 2025 to early 2026, but he said Apple is focused on improving costs and production, leading him to believe that the "user experience will not differ from the current model." It is possible these changes might not even be announced to the public, beyond a potential price cut. To me this implies an under the hood revision to the existing device that results in cheaper production costs for Apple. It sounds like there is some doubt that this will happen now.
There's a lot of doubt that it'll happen. It's got cutting edge tech, but unfortunately cutting edge tech isn't enough to make the product compelling.

I want one of these, I can afford one of these, but I don't have a reason to buy it and $3,500 is not an impulse purchase.

I'd bite at under $2k though... And I know that because I bought the original Oculus Rift with an Alienware PC for about that amount.
That’s the key. Get this under $2K and it makes sense as a potential iPad Pro replacement. Add support for more than 1 external Mac display, and optimize more apps for it.

Ooh MR made Neil Cybart mad. Though I’m not sure what he means because Apple would never release a statement like that. The company never provides sales figures for any of their products any more.

Of course if Vision Pro had been released by anyone other than Apple he’d be crapping all over the product.

I’m really shocked that a $3K computer helmet strapped to a person’s head isn’t selling. 🙄 There is probably some future iteration that makes sense but this absolutely does not. I can see something the size of swimming goggles perhaps that is purely an external accessory to an iPhone where all of the computing is handled by the phone (or iPad/Mac). It needs to be a visual equivalent to the AirPods: small, unobtrusive, and enhances the use of the iPhone (or whatever other device a person is using) rather than trying to be a hybrid accessory/standalone product. Even a cord that connects to the main device similar to wired headphones to eliminate the need for a separate battery or a smaller battery that charges off the phone. There is too much kit being crammed in here for something a person has to wear. And for what purpose? A Mac or iPad Pro could certainly drive this device as an external display of sorts with the interface simply adjusting to fit the Vision Pro. Not sure if the iPhone is there yet, but I’m sure it’s close.

This product has 0 use cases.. that's why.
It does: if you work on many windows, having that much space available makes a huge difference, and the speed of interaction makes it a very good productivity tool.
I organize tours around the world, I constantly use several notes, excel, mail, multiple safari windows, photos, Skype, and more.
If I had the money, I'd buy it instantly.

So what is the difference with a computer with screens and a mouse? A use case is already solved with existing technology.

There is no specific use case outside of VR/AR/wearable tech IMO.

A reduction in price is much needed. Expanding its availability to other markets should help Apple in the short run.

Lol.

I hope those who poopooed my comments back when it was released are now at least willing to see they were wrong.

What concerns me the most though, is not my own ego, but how people in Apple couldn't see that coming from miles if readers/consumers like us were already aware of all the shortcomings while not in the secrets of this industry.

It's like Apple, lead by Tim Cook, completely ignored what happened in this market for the last decade or so.
Sure there is progress to be made, but many things have been tried and charting the territory was already done by others, unlike with the apple watch.

There more of a problem the reasoning Buying one. For those that are too simple minded to think farther than watching porn or playing games or movies it might be rich for them to buy it or justify it. I f you have an application or to use I think this thing is fabulous. Can I afford one sure will I buy one; if I wasn’t my age as it is now. I probably will. If I was younger And I was in the beginning or the middle of my profession sure damn right I would buy it I know it would make my life easier. But at this stage in my life I wouldn’t. Sure I can watch movies emails to all sorts of stuff and I can justify it. But by anything other than this type of device strap to my face no way. Either it’s this Vision Pro where it’s nothing at this point for me. It’s just my view about the stage in my life. I think this is a great application to be able to do fashions. But outright hitting this is like not really knowing what you really want to do with it. If you have no reasons to audit and don’t but don’t slam it because you can’t think of anything we can do with it

Not making any predictions but I won't be surprised if this thing quietly disappears and is never updated. It's a marvellous tech demo but as a mass market product it was always destined to fail and it's alarming to me that Apple seemingly didn't know this. Or worse, they did but released it anyway. Its fans can kick and scream all they like but it's undeniable that the majority of consumers just aren't interested and likely never will be. I mean setting all else aside, 3D TVs failed in no small part because buyers didn't like wearing featherweight plastic glasses. The notion that they're now going to accept a giant scuba helmet hanging off their face is borderline laughable.

The technology is wonderful, but that's all it is. Technology.

Do Apple still not realise that not all of their customers are billionaires.
Do macrumors’ users realize that Vision Pro pack so much technology, it will become cheaper over time thanks to innovation, bigger productions…

The high price doesn't help, but on a fundamental level the product itself is fundamentally a tough sell that not many people want.

What concerns me the most though, is not my own ego, but how people in Apple couldn't see that coming from miles if readers/consumers like us were already aware of all the shortcomings while not in the secrets of this industry.

To me it's a huge red flag that they went the headset route. For them to do that indicates that they didn't have any better ideas than to develop their own version of a product that's usually met with indifference or outright hostility. I get major Tobias Funke "but it might work for us" vibes from this whole venture. At the very least they should have spent more time developing it and leaning on marketing the kind of things you can only do with an AVP. Not things like looking at documents or watching TV. You only get one shot at a first impression.

As said elsewhere: How to increase sales of Apple Vision Pro? Just release other model to watch 3D movies. And no prescription inserts required! Just that. That easy!

I'd take one at 2k. Being able to take my macbook outside, sit in the garden and have a big olde screen with me sounds ideal. I'd also love to capture some depth films of my little ones playing and then let my parents see it back. My parents live in another country, they're very old and can't travel much so only see my girls 5-6 times a year.

Clearly this is a forum Apple decision makers do not read because when the Vision Pro was first announced, immediately forum members jumped on 3 issues that would affect their purchasing decision, price, being able to view multiple displays and weight (it must be comfortable to wear) and low and behold what are we seeing months after it's release, actual owners of the VP complaining of lack uses (no multiple display functionality) and weight and potential buyers of the VP still complaining of the price due to the other issues already raised.

As other members have pointed out in various threads on the VP, if someone wants to try out AR/VR, they can buy a non Apple computer (laptop or desktop) and an Oculus (now Meta) VR for the price of the Vision Pro. You can purchase a Playstation PS5 and it's VR headset for nearly half the price of a Vision Pro.

One of the issues raised about the VP was it affecting peoples hair. Not everyone likes to have their hair messed up and it looks like Apple had this covered with one of it's headbands but as been seen and noticed by VP owners, due to the weight of the VP using this headband causes the VP to rest on the bridge of the nose thereby causing pressure to the bridge of the nose resulting in pain. To combat this owners of the VP have said to use the other headband which goes over the head which supports the weight of the VP better but the problem is this headband flattens the hair, something that was raised as a potential issue.

It was clear to see in this forum on threads relating to the Vision Pro, right from it's initial beginnings to it's prototype release through it it's limited tryout of it's test units, members concerns about the VP, valid concerns, concerns that Apple obviously ignored because those initial concerns were proven right when the VP went on public sale.

Many many members warned the VP would struggle to sell if those initially raised concerns were not dealt with before the VP's public release and now we are seeing the result of those ignored concerns, Apple struggling to sell the VP.
