They posted this yesterday too. I call BS on the whole site.

Even if its all BS, isn't it still nice to have someone coming up with possible ideas? It gives us something to think about, instead of just harping on the fact that we don't have MMS and/or Copy and Paste, both conversations I'm getting really tired of hearing about, although I think Copy and Paste should be implemented... (Seriously Apple!)

True, True. But I just got one to try out. And they are.

Anyways, I still think iPhone 2.3 is too far away to make predictions.

Gotta say the iPhone is my first foray into the world of Apple, and I'm only half impressed.

The user interface is amazing, of that there's no doubt. The way it works is slick and applications are reasonably fast to start.

What I do find almost disturbing, though, is the amount of lock-in. If I want to connect to my laptop to, say, syncronise, I've got to go via iTunes, which is an awful bit of software - why go through a media software package to sync contacts? Can't Apple become ActiveSync compatible? And also, why can't I change the theme/skin of the phone? Finally... I've seen MMS being mentioned a few times on the forum, but it's massively amiss.

I really think Apple have produced a great phone, but haven't developed to its full potential. Unshackle it and it will be as amazing as the hype.

I'm curious what you don't like about iTunes. It seems to either be love or hate with it. Personally, I think its great, and having the iPhone sync with iTunes, for me, is a benefit. I think it makes sense to use iTunes since the iPhone is such a media-centric device. Apple's big on the all-in-one/simplicity thing, so it isn't surprising to me that they didn't write a whole new app for syncing.

Granted it isn't a free option, but if you use MobileMe, all contacts, emails, and calendars sync over the air. I've found the $99 a year to be a great investment- its a great addition to and extension of my MacBook.

Cut & Paste >>>> Some kiddie dream of saying LOL in class.

Email improvements, and many other things are needed before iCry.

Push is something that is several months overdue and needed.

Beejive > ichat?!

Agree, we already have AIM, why are people still SMS'ing on the iPhone? Because SMS is sent to a phone, not just iPhone's or people online their computer iChat or AIM. iChat would simply compete with AIM and likely be better, work nicer and hopefully support Push in 2.3.

I don't really care about iChat unless it can run in the background. Otherwise I have the great Beejive application that works just fine. To avoid the $0.05/msg charge, I have my wife SMS me, and then we boot up Beejive to finish the chat.

Plus, unlike SMS, Beejive lets you chat in landscape mode.

uhm...

the camera on the iphone is on the back, but the screen is on the front. so you would have to keep flipping the phone around to let them see you and see what they're doing...?

iChat does regular text chat, not just video.

iChat's main advantages against other text chat mac apps are:

-ScreenShare
-Videoconferencing

none of which iPhone has.

Your point?

The main advantage of an iPhone/iPod Touch iChat would be the fact that it is an Apple (tm) app and can run in the background.

This would make me fall out of my chair! I would LOVE this. Then we'd get notifications!!! Just like SMS!

That blog is stupid and pointless (not to mention vapid), it seems like the author is just posting nonsensical crap that "we" want so that his/her blog can get hits.

"New details suggest" what details? Where did they come from? Who gave it to them? How did they get it?

ZOMG more useless stuff!

Actually the Bluetooth Sync would be amazing! I used to have this on my old phone. Whenever I came within range of the computer it would automatically update my phone with any new media/playlists and PIM data.

I use MS Exchange now for my PIM but run a media server machine tucked away which I VNC into from my iPhone if I need to change anything. Think how good it'll be if all the latest podcasts and items from your library are automatically transfered to your phone each time you're in range of your computer.

i had so many problems with active sync doubling up on appointments it drove me nuts - i would end up with 12 copies of the same appointment on the same day - i have never had a single problem with iTunes screwing up something. i find it rock solid!!

Man ... if iChat became the iPhone equivalent to Blackberry Messenger, I'd be ECSTATIC!

Constant, always-on "presence" software is sorely missing on the ol' iPhone.
