I'm curious what you don't like about iTunes. It seems to either be love or hate with it. Personally, I think its great, and having the iPhone sync with iTunes, for me, is a benefit. I think it makes sense to use iTunes since the iPhone is such a media-centric device. Apple's big on the all-in-one/simplicity thing, so it isn't surprising to me that they didn't write a whole new app for syncing.

Granted it isn't a free option, but if you use MobileMe, all contacts, emails, and calendars sync over the air. I've found the $99 a year to be a great investment- its a great addition to and extension of my MacBook.

Hi Mikey,

Thanks for your comments. Maybe it's because I'm using a PC, rather than a MacBook, that I'm finding so many problems with it. It's buggy, it does awful things like 'Determining Gapless information' when I don't want it to (and hogging resource), it crashes most of the time... I would have thought that, in an effort for iPhone users to realise how well tested Apple software was, that it would've been put through more of a rigourous test... which obviously hasn't happened.

The other thing I don't like about 'Apple land' is that you have to pay for everything. MobileMe costs £99 over here in the UK, which I am astounded at. In Google-land, the equivalent - calendars, docs, sync, email etc - it's all free. In Microsoft-land, Outlook Express, ActiveSync, Hotmail - that's all free too. I just feel like I'm being milked because I've got an iPhone!

Lastly, I only want to sync my contacts and calendar between my iPhone, iTunes is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. ActiveSync desktop sync would be so much easier and better between an iPhone and PC.

I'm just disappointed with how it works at the minute - it needs to be much slicker.

i had so many problems with active sync doubling up on appointments it drove me nuts - i would end up with 12 copies of the same appointment on the same day - i have never had a single problem with iTunes screwing up something. i find it rock solid!!

It is not rock solid. first you cannot sync music and videos from mulitple computers. Thats just ridiculous. I need it for my work and home pc's.
My pictures get doubled up every couple of weeks for now reason.
I have to go in and delete the cache and resync the pictures.

Itunes is really made for the music part of there industry, they need add more flexibility into there software.
I see why everyone is moving to openign the phone up to software they want to use.

I hope they start listening to customers because they are causing alot of hard feelings withine the iphone community.

My guess for the next iPhone (aka the rumored June/July one) is 3-3.5G (Definitely no 4G WiMax/LTE), improved battery life (probably not by much if anything), copy & paste and maybe MMS. I wouldnt doubt it if they even improved some of the graphics the way they did from the Gen 1 Touch to the Gen 2.

I think it'll be a marginal improvement over the 3G model since Apple knows that the loyal and must have the latest and greatest will buy anything they throw out there so my money's on fixing some problems (aka copy & paste and MMS).

A much as I'd like to see a quantum leap in iPhones I think we'll see iChat video & Audio conferencing, multi-core CPU, the end of 2009 or early 2010 model.

While this would be a nice feature, it's not a "deal breaker" - for me, at least. Is it worth losing a managed library, smart playlists, genius playlist creation, playcount and other meta-data tracking and so forth, just to be able to copy the odd song from your work computer? What music and videos are on your work computer anyway?

Odd. Can't say this is my experience. Have you tried Apple's Support Forums?

Yeah, iTunes was indeed made for music first - but ultimately music is just content, and iTunes is just content management software. I don't understand the second thing you said here - are you saying end-users are using software other than iTunes? Or other phone manufacturers?

I hope they start listening to customers because they are causing alot of hard feelings withine the iphone community.

They are? Or is a small sample of dedicated, tech-centric users lamenting specific, esoteric wants that Apple isn't specifically and directing addressing?
