Four excellent examples of where to not use a phone but rather talk to the other in person. What is wrong with their lives? Did they all missed what's important? And why is everybody so shy?

It hurts to see this happening. At least put some music there, so it becomes the cheap hollywood clip whose feeling it already delivers.

Haircut - That isn't one of those life changing moments. If you feel like you need a face to face conversation over hair, its time to move out of the stone age.

Well, I should get packing because my mom (who lives out of state) loves seeing my hair when I get it done. She loves seeing how my style is evolving.

I used to describe it. Next, I took pictures each time at the salon (every 4-6 weeks). Now, she gets her iPhone 4 this week. We'll be able to facetime so that I can show it to her in motion. I think it's awesome. :)

I feel like you missed the point of my reply. The person I was quoting was saying get a life instead of using a phone for everything. Talk to the person with real human contact. My reply was saying that getting a haircut isn't a huge deal, thats not something that you set a time and place, tell the person to sit down, and then take off your hat. You basically agree'd with what I was saying, at least in the 2nd paragraph.

Really!? Are you being a troll or are you just so completely out of touch with technology that you are sincerely asking?

In short, if you are in a place with WiFi, you can use Facetime (or Safari or any other technology that uses WiFi) to communicate with anyone any where in the world who is also on their own WiFi. How do you not know this?

Aren't you assuming that the wifi connection at your workplace/Internet cafe/wherever has the right ports open for FaceTime to use? There are already lots of threads on here about people not being able to get FaceTime to work from various wifi networks they use day-to-day...

What's with the fake hand? Is there a hand model strike.

And it's shaking. It's really grossing me out. Maybe it's the new Apple IHand for better reception. Just carry around this handy fake hand. When you need to make a call just slide your new IPhone4 into your IHand and off you go. Lame.

the only thing that bugs me about facetime is the whole wi-fi thing, and i know that's been said a million times.
but you can video chat on a laptop/computer from your house,
doing it with iphone 4 is cool because it's portable. but still, if you can't do it on the go, it seems way less useful/cool.

you pretty much have to sit down and plan to facetime someone, rather than just do it. if you want to show someone something, you can't be like. oh hey, check this out. it's more like, hey man. are you in a wifi area? ok, get to one. now turn on your wifi. alright. now look at this.

You downplay the obvious difference between doing video calling on a computer as opposed to a mobile device so let's consider the differences. With one, you're stuck sitting at a desk in one position for the entire call with your camera largely unmovable. With the other, you're free to wander around your home, sit in a comfortable location and even point the camera easily at things other than yourself. That gives you mobility for video calling comparable to what we've come to expect with a regular phone. Regardless of the WiFi limitation, it's still a huge leap compared to video calls made on a computer.

Well said. Not to mention they are also emotionally restrained, hollow, with no depth or resonance with human emotion... oddly empty and creepy. FAIL.

Even BETTER said. There's something artificial about all of these. I can't project into these ads because they feel so false.

The story they're telling here is valuable, but it's being told by mannequins. I want slice-of-life here, not staged enter-action-exit.

There just no magic here. It's 2 people who have never actually met recording their parts into HD cameras on separate sound stages.

This is not the observation of a cynic. This is the observation of a guy who really wants to believe. But these stories are portrayed just barely outside the realm of believability. They're empty and dull, while at the same time preachy and guilt-inducing.

I think I kind of hate them.

Wow crappy ads. Truly atrocious, cringeworthy acting

If my wife told me over 'video phone' she was pregnant I would be rather annoyed frankly (but necessarily suppress my anger but bury it deep inside and resent her until lying on my death bed I utter the word "Facetime..." and cark it, leaving those in attendance pondering the meaning of this obscure, archaic term).

Meet her - OK may give them that one. I did like the way we as the viewer only see the baby through the phone (although unlikely to have WiFi access in hospital). How often are most of these kind of scenarios going to occur?
I thought Apple were trying to highlight Facetime as a new (not really) but didn't know we'd always needed it, everyday, indispensible feature?

Haircut and Smile may be realistic situations if it weren't for WiFi only, honestly you may as well be at your computer, a pity they had the worst acting.

How about Mom checking up that teenage son really is at the library and not actually down the pub? Sorry; that's all I"ve got cause the whole idea is rather lame which is why nobody uses it on phones that have had it for years.

These ads were designed to win awards and will also help sell 10 million more iPhone 4s by the end of the year.:apple:

No not at all. How did you make that connection? They look nothing a like.

apple is not "human"

Apples problem is that these commercials strike a different chord than the rest of their image. They are these super-cool high-tech company bringing crazily neat easy to use products. They are have the image of technical visionaries.

But they don't have this "human touch" the ads try to portrait. That's why they seem so fake.

actually think they are very striking ads. I haven't seen one on TV yet, but it seems like it would really catch your eye.

arn

American adverts are awful though, so it's not like you have a good metric for comparison.

I'm British, and I think the ads are excellent. Better than anything that any advertiser would produce over here. The problem isn't these ads, the problem is our culture and our society in Britain.

??

I think you just love Apple so much :D

These ads are awful.

I find these ads extremely awkward to watch...

This is exactly how I felt as well. It's like watching a comedian bomb on stage. You get what they're trying to do and it's painful to watch them fail so badly. These ads are horrible, low budget, and convey more negative than positive to me.

What!!!!!

WHAT!!!!

Two ads out of four are showing the improer holding of the iphone as per Apple's sepcificaitons.

Totally misleading... :p

Is it me or is the haircut one a little too stereotypical? The female is almost asking for permission to like her new haircut from the husband/boyfriend.

Am I the only one who got that feeling?

I was too busy noticing hw cute she was! :p Other than that it was a little hokey!

I followed that link and all I can say is if you don't love your country no one is forcing you to live here. If you don't want to pay taxes move to Mexico.

Indeed I love my country and it's Constitutional foundation, otherwise, why would I resist treasonous acts?

They should turn into idiots and believe what con-men on the internet say?

I know John personally and he's a great guy who is just trying to do right. You shouldn't judge people out of ignorance. Until you have studied Reconstruction, you cannot say that people fighting it are just 'con-men'.

Already saw both the "grandfather" one and the girl with braces one during the all star game. I wonder if apple will get all 4 into this game.
