What if the battery has died?
When I went through the pre-approval process for the iUP there was an option to add the theft protection to the phone for around $4 more a month. I personally don't see the appeal of this, but see why it would be useful to someIf there's a way to add it on the iPhone upgrade program I can absolutely see the appeal. $12.50 a month to replace your phone if you lose it doesn't sound unreasonable.
I've never lost my phone, but you don't typically buy insurance planning to use it. Same should apply for a phone, really.
That's cool. That was through Apple? I didn't know that was ever an option until now. When I went through the pre-approval process for the iUP there was an option to add the theft protection to the phone for around $4 more a month. Yes it was through apple. When I went through the pre-approval process, I had to pick the phone I wanted (as usual) but then the next page had me select between applecare+ or the new applecare+theft protection. If you're currently on the upgrade program and plan on upgrading, you can do this by going into the apple store app and selecting the phone you'd like to upgrade toThat's cool. Not at that price it does not it should be included with reg AppleCare plus
I literally just spoke to them on earlier today. The rep couldn't process an express replacement device until she saw on her end that FMI was turned off on my existing iPhone.
for three bucks, sign me in!!So is this right:
Regular Applecare+ on 7/8/10s/10sMax/10r = $199
Applecare+ Theft/Loss on a 7/8/10s/10sMax/10r = $2.99
Probably a way to prevent fraud. "I cannot find my iPhone! I'd like a replacement." Sir, give me your Apple ID and authorize us to find it. Cool. It says it is in your home.
Apple’s premium can cover my theft insurance for years. And that includes everything I own.
Apple’s worksExpensive, but within line with what many carriers charge for their insurance plans plus the deductibles for high-end smartphones (AT&T is $9 a month with a $299 deductible).
$299 plus $269 deductible crazy
$299 plus $269 deductible crazy
2 options is too confusing? Really?
Me too. I said the same thing on reddit and people came out from the woodwork to call me an idiot for not buying something I don’t needI don't care much for AppleCare - Can see it would be beneficial for some people, but I'm just careful with my devices....
$299, nope. That is almost MBP AC warranty price and $199 for the “cheaper” AC without theft and loss still too much.
Some might justify this and that is fine.
Considering what I use my phone for, between this and the price gouging for the Xr, if I ever get another iPhone it will be the least expensive model available with no AC. I’ve only needed it AC twice (though I did not know or use it for the second time, i.e. the battery replacement for the 6s).
At this point, I am thinking my tech dollars will go probably go elsewhere when the time comes.
There is a lot of options for the consumer to understand. Just reading the associated MacRumors article on this is not clear or easy to understand.
The bigger point here is Apple used to focus on simplicity in all they do. Not so much anymore. Leave the insurance options to insurers and just focus on designing hardware and software that works.
This is great, for you! You're totally the intended market for the entry level android phones! Tons of options out there for you, all with pretty basic feature sets. This will suit you nicely: https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-2nd-generation-Unlocked-Cellphone/dp/B00MWI4F0O?th=1
You can just buy a couple and swap sims when you break one.
