Alongside the launch of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple has introduced a new AppleCare+ plan that's designed to protect against theft and loss.

As with regular AppleCare+, Apple will repair accidental damage for $99, but a lost or stolen phone will be more expensive.

Apple should have called this coverage AppleCare Max.

$299 for a warranty that includes a theft and loss plan is actually pretty damn good. The deductible for the replacement at $269 puts a replacement phone at $568 - a hell of a lot less than the base $1000, and significantly less than the $1449 for the 512GB iPhone XS Max . For those complaining about price, just do the math.

And, if you don't want the theft and loss coverage, just go with the stand AppleCare Plus for $199.

Yes the theft/loss is a good deal considering the other option is to buy a whole new phone at full price. Some people expect everything to be "cheap" or free.

Umm no...

You only have to have the FMI feature turned off when you send them your old device.

I literally just spoke to them on earlier today. The rep couldn't process an express replacement device until she saw on her end that FMI was turned off on my existing iPhone.

Let's see, replace an iPhone 8 on this program for $499, or take my chances not buying this, and replacing it outright myself for $599? I think I know what I would do.

That's stupid then just turn it back on once you get off the phone. They can't force you to have it off while you wait for a replacement device.

So I just went through the preapproval process. You can add the Theft and Loss coverage for 4 dollars and some change more.

Can I get MaxiCare+ on my XSMax or is XS the max -- 'cause I want to + size to the Max on the XS, unless its excess

Expensive, but within line with what many carriers charge for their insurance plans plus the deductibles for high-end smartphones (AT&T is $9 a month with a $299 deductible).

In Costa Rica I was robbed at gun point. Had to hand over my phone and wallet. They then pistol whipped me in the forehead and sent me back the way I came with no way to get back to my hotel. Awful experience.

Wallet didn't have much in it so no loss.

iPhone was the 7 Plus 128 GB on a 2 year loan. I had only paid 5 of the 24 months. I'm still paying the phone off 1.5 years later and won't be done until December. (loan is interest free so might as well?)

Anyways, these devices aren't cheap. Neither is this insurance. Kind of a toss up, even from someone who has been robbed and assulted.

Shouldn't people just add this to their home insurance policy? Don't some policies cover theft?

Another way Apple can exploit cash from us?

Wait until Apple starts charging interest on buyers who use their 24 month installment plan. As interest rates go up, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple stopped offering a 0% interest rate 24 month loan.

This is easy cash for Apple. I wish they'd offer a single AppleCare plan that was not attached to a device, but could be redeemed for any device, with no time limit. That makes much more sense.

Apple requires FMiP to be turned off for any service. However, once the repair is setup, you can turn it back on until you are ready to send it to Apple.

Basically, it has to be off so the Apple advisor can systematically setup the repair.

I hope that helps.

Exactly Verizon charges $13/month plus deductibles for their insurance and it doesn’t extend your warranty like AppleCare

Apple just introduced the new iPhones with the Apple does NOT care plan!!

Apple definitely does NOT care about the prices and screw big time its customers...

So with AppleCare included, your 512GB iPhone XS Max is getting dangerously close to 2K, if not hitting it. Even a couple of years ago if you told someone that an iPhone would cost close to 2K in 2018, they would’ve laughed at you.

So is this right:

Regular Applecare+ on 7/8/10s/10sMax/10r = $199

Applecare+ Theft/Loss on a 7/8/10s/10sMax/10r = $299

EDIT... fixed stupid decimal error
