Apple today announced the next-generation iPad Pro, featuring the custom-designed M5, C1X, and N1 chips.

The M5 chip has up to a 10-core CPU, with four performance cores and six efficiency cores. It features a next-generation GPU with Neural Accelerator in each core, allowing the new iPad Pro to deliver up to 3.5x the AI performance than the previous model, and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. A faster 16-core Neural Engine also delivers more energy-efficient performance. Apple says that performance gains and breakthrough improvements over iPads with the M1 chip are "staggering".

In addition to the M5 chip, the cellular versions of the new iPad Pro feature Apple's custom-designed C1X modem, which allows up to 50% faster cellular data performance than its predecessor, with much greater efficiency.

It also features the N1 chip, a new Apple-designed wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Apple says the N1 brings better performance when connected to 5GHz networks, and improves the overall performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.

The new iPad Pro features over 150GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, which is almost a 30% increase compared to the previous generation. It also offers up to 2x faster storage read and write speeds, and the 256GB and 512GB models start with 12GB of unified memory.

The new iPad Pro adds the ability to drive external displays at up to 120Hz and now supports Adaptive Sync, which provides the lowest possible latency in external display performance.

Fast charging is now supported, allowing the new iPad Pro to charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 40W adapter or higher.

The new iPad Pro is available to pre-order starting today, and will be available in stores on Wednesday, October 22.

What a joke. Now to find an M4.

Surprised Apple didn't include the C1X chip by default and bump the price by $50. Everybody gets a "free" upgrade to cellular whether they want it or not and Apple gets to tout that it's a price cut from the previous gen cellular model...

The 120hz external monitor support is pretty good and unexpected. Nice bump with the 12GB standard on the base.

They've started advertising the RAM in the config choices. I wonder why that's suddenly need-to-know information?

Seriously at this price range, they should all be starting at 16GB RAM like the laptops and desktops. 24GB or 32GB for the 1TB and 2TB models would have been nice.

This all being said, iPad Pro M5 is the future of Mac. Must buy.

The 1 TB and 2 TB models also have an extra processing core in addition to the RAM upgrade. I believe that’s new compared to M4 which was just RAM upgrade. Apple is directly listing the RAM and core amounts on each model now on the store.

256 GB & 512 GB
12 GB RAM
9-Core CPU/10-Core GPU

1 TB & 2 TB
16 GB RAM
10-Core CPU/10-Core GPU

Nice update. Going to upgrade from a cellular M1.

Nice update? It’s just the chip.

Huh? from an m1 Cellular, new cellular modem, new chip, tandem oled display, higher ram on sub 1tb models, 120hz ext monitor support, ; landscape front camera with center stage, support for better Magic Keyboard, wifi7, fast charge - I think that's substantial over an m1.

False, the cpu was also this way on the m4. 9 core cpu for lower tiers and 10 core cpu for higher tiers

"New"??? this "stick a new processor in it and call it new" now with pretty much every device. As a huge apple fan - this is disappointing. There is ZERO innovation anymore with Apple - they are doing as little as they possibly can with the product line.
It's the iPad. What innovation is needed on an annual basis? This is a mature device. I love this sub genre of people who want "innovation" every year but don't know what that means or why they want it. Hyper consumer brain rot manifesting as entitled superiority.

This is for the iPad, the MacBook Pro and the iPhone, literally every device has sod all real upgrade, design refresh. A new camera, a new chip, very little else. The iPad hasn't has an update in years. So what are you talking about innovation every year. I have the 2021 M1 Mbp apart from a new chip, and a new camera, there are no differences between that and the brand new MBP - identical design. It's laughable. I agree sometimes things don't need to be innovated, but come on, do something new, like actually new.
