So what?
Market share is a view of the ENTIRE market... calculated by 3rd party analysts. It's a comparison of a bunch of unrelated companies.
Yes... the iPhone has low market share. Then again... Apple only sells a few models of the iPhone... mid to high-end models to be exact. But the bulk of their iPhone sales at any given time are their rather expensive flagship phone.
The rest of the smartphone market is populated by phones running Google's Android operating system... from multiple manufacturers. There are a lot of them... no doubt. But Android is made up of mid to high-end phones... AND low-end phones.
Most Android phones, especially low-end Android phones, aren't contributing much other than numbers on a market share chart. It's a huge number... but with little payoff.
Apple's phones, on the other hand, attract developers, accessory makers, receive high customer satisfaction, etc... despite being a low percentage of the overall smartphone market.
I know what you're saying... Apple has only 12% of the smartphone market compared to Android's 80%
Then again... look at what Apple is able to achieve with just 12% of the smartphone market. This part is key.
And the same thing is happening in the tablet market too. More and more tablets are being sold overall from dozens of companies... which makes Apple's percentage of the tablet market go down.
But so what if millions of cheap white-box Android tablets get pumped into the market... when the iPad still gets all the attention?
Yes... Apple's market share number is going down on paper... but support is going up in the real world. That's the big takeaway from all of this.
It's actually a testament to how bad Android is at exciting the market... even though Android represents an overwhelming majority of the market.
8 out of 10 smartphones sold today are running Android... yet everyone is focused on the iPhone. That says something.
In other words... market share is largely irrelevant. It makes a great headline... but there's no compelling story afterwards.
I agree & it's real easy.
Google is all about Revenue... Apple is all about sustaining Profits.
With this - they know to care for their high-end customer, and keeping their customer experience & satisfaction high through the entire process from the product to the people. Which is why their brand will always be stronger... they can sustain profits always, and hardly ever overstock Apple items in stores.
Android can hardly get anyone to adopt to the newest software release, because so many phones aspect ratios aren't compatible... and Google/Android could care less about the consumer in that situation. They just want you to buy the latest & greatest or suffer with older software.
