It's not always best to be the best... Sometimes hater's hate.

And, like some say, "haters" dont really hate you, they hate themselves.

Back to the advert - I personally think it's Apple boldest and most brilliant ad since their SuperBowl ad in 1984... Pretty sweet for the Apple Team this time around the ad debuts during the 49ers playoff game. Wonder if any meticulous planning was involved???

Find it kind of funny - Sure there are some niners fans at Apple HQ that now receive more street cred becuase of the timing of the ad.

The only thing I wish about this ad... Would be to just call it the iPad. Like the original. Not iPad Air at the end of this commercial - even though now, it's called the iPad Air.

Besides that, this ad is revolutionary for Apple. The international crowd will be wow'd more than anything. In 1984, the SuperBowl ad did make it on international broadcasting, so I'm wondering the reach this ad got and/or will get???

This ad could spark some momentum internationally... Think it is one of Apple's Top 5 adverts of all time.

Stop all insane speculations and numberologies

You're all avoiding to deal with the question, the fundamental question

If life is alla poetry and you may contribute with a verse what your verse would be?

My contribution is:" life is the dreams of a flying garlic."

Really amazing ad, but sadly iPad is only capable of being useful on the couch or reading a book on the subway.

An engineer would rather have a Surface Pro2 in his hand when sharing network plans - a device which has the power to be useful than entertaining. Its unfortunate MS is too busy developing ads where business professionals are snapping the kickstand and dancing ontop of boardroom table. Idiots....full of cash...idiots, or maybe thats how Panos Pinay rolls.

This engineer has a surface pro and an iPad. I much prefer the iPad.

I get what you're saying, but Levi's is hardly the first to make the connection between jeans and freedom. The Soviet Union blocked the sale of jeans there for a long time and people equated Levi's with freedom. So for perspective - the connection made between jeans and freedom was made at least 30 years before the ad you've linked. :)

I hate how a specific brand of pants is equated with freedom and embracing life. They're pants. And while I'm hesitant to say that the same doesn't apply to Apple's commecrial, I do think it's more apporopriate to cast such a powerful product in this light.

Crazy. This is a hark back to Job's contractual ideas working with Lee Clow in 1997. I just read about it earlier today on Chapter 25 of the Steve Jobs biography.
They ended up using the "Think Different" speach narrated by Richard Dreyfus (Robin Williams, whom was asked, apparently didn't do adds) but this same idea (the Dead Poets Society clip) was pitched. I think this add is a legacy tribute. Nicely done Apple.

Only 1 'd' in "ad". You see an 'ad' on tv or in a magazine. You learn to 'add' in math class.

Enough with the touchy feely already bore me senseless why don't you arrgh.. My "verse" will be in life NOT on an iDiot Pad!

Glad to see Apple recover from those horrible genius ads. It seems like they went through a rough patch after they hired that clown to run their retail division, had the bad maps roll out and then the terrible ads. They've been on a tear lately. These are ads that I enjoy watching over and over. They harken back to the best of Apple.

It's like when Steve Jobs left, nobody quite knew how to steady the ship. They kept it afloat and generally headed in the right direction, but now they've settled in on a steady course. I feel like the magic is coming back. I just wish that somebody there would step up as the new visionary leader. I feel like Craig Federighi could become that guy. Nobody can replace Steve, but I think Craig could lead successfully with his own style. Not to put down Cook, he's a great manager and has done well. But I don't feel like he inspires greatness in his employees or the public. By this point it seems pretty clear that Jony Ive doesn't want the top job. He's more of the quiet, creative type. But I feel like his expanded role internally has inspired the teams to be better across the board. He was really close to Steve and everyone knows that.

I have to laugh. If this commercial came from Microsoft or Samsung, all these "brilliant!" comments would be "ridiculous". And you all know it too.

But of course, we'll never know because the ad didn't come from Microsoft or Samsung. And they have yet to produce anything that is visually stunning and with broad depth and impact in message. Instead, we get riffs on why Apple users are out of touch hipster-wannabes who have no lives or jobs and just rand in lines all the time in front or perpetually-closed electronics stores, or we get rows of stomping angry-looking schoolgirls waving around really thick tablets.

And that's why they don't get the same reaction as Apple ads like this one.

Unbelievably pretentious.

Whenever an ad aspires to any artistic statement beyond "buy this, it's good" it's easy to take potshots about pretentiousness. But turn off your cynical switch for a sec, and it's nearly a perfect advertisement.

It's inspirational, it snags you in. The product is shown as practical and widespread, yet the brand is still aspirational. In a world of motorcycles, explosions, and talking animals, this is great stuff.

The most interesting thing about this (and all other) Apple commercial is that Apple fans spend so much energy discussing it. I have not seen similar phenomena with any other brands. Sure some Samsung commercials are reported by Android blogs but there is never much of discussion there. Indeed, who care how creative any given company is trying to sell its stuff to you? I generally ignore all commercials, they just annoy me.

I don't know. If Apple continues to sell the iPad to this demographic their market share will go the way of the iPhone.

So what?

Market share is a view of the ENTIRE market... calculated by 3rd party analysts. It's a comparison of a bunch of unrelated companies.

Yes... the iPhone has low market share. Then again... Apple only sells a few models of the iPhone... mid to high-end models to be exact. But the bulk of their iPhone sales at any given time are their rather expensive flagship phone.

The rest of the smartphone market is populated by phones running Google's Android operating system... from multiple manufacturers. There are a lot of them... no doubt. But Android is made up of mid to high-end phones... AND low-end phones.

Most Android phones, especially low-end Android phones, aren't contributing much other than numbers on a market share chart. It's a huge number... but with little payoff.

Apple's phones, on the other hand, attract developers, accessory makers, receive high customer satisfaction, etc... despite being a low percentage of the overall smartphone market.

I know what you're saying... Apple has only 12% of the smartphone market compared to Android's 80%

Then again... look at what Apple is able to achieve with just 12% of the smartphone market. This part is key.

And the same thing is happening in the tablet market too. More and more tablets are being sold overall from dozens of companies... which makes Apple's percentage of the tablet market go down.

But so what if millions of cheap white-box Android tablets get pumped into the market... when the iPad still gets all the attention?

Yes... Apple's market share number is going down on paper... but support is going up in the real world. That's the big takeaway from all of this.

It's actually a testament to how bad Android is at exciting the market... even though Android represents an overwhelming majority of the market.

8 out of 10 smartphones sold today are running Android... yet everyone is focused on the iPhone. That says something.

In other words... market share is largely irrelevant. It makes a great headline... but there's no compelling story afterwards.

I believe you're looking for this:

The Padcaster

Don't ask me how it works. This is the first I've heard of it.

It's basically a nice sturdy "frame" for the iPad to act as a "back" for video podcasting or any video/photography being done on an iPad. It is a mount that lets you attach any kind if tripod, flash mounts, microphones, a lens, etc. to your iPad. So essentially, it lets you use the iPad as not only a screen to preview your video but also as your editing device as well. Having the ability to attach so many accessories to the iPad within one device is quite simple but still a well done device nonetheless.

Interesting!! You are contributing to the very same thing you are complaining about!!

Equating mundane stuff with desirable stuff is what advertisers do. When done well it can be entertaining - but that's about it.

Sadly, it's not often done well.

...The Soviet Union blocked the sale of jeans there for a long time and people equated Levi's with freedom...

Which reminds me of this classic Levi's ad from the early 80's.

Sure, because at the end of the day, it would be a commercial for Surface which, well. . . is Surface. Not exactly an inspiring product.

But hey, it has a keyboard so it has that going for it. ;)
