Apple uses the speech I wrote for the Dead Poets Society project, which I was told was an amateur stage play, to sell their iPads. I wrote the speech, which starts with "huddle up!" and ends with "What will your verse be?". I've never been compensated. Apple is receiving stolen iProperty. Congratulations.

Yeah, right.

Can someone tell me the name of all the apps used in the ad and accessories?

I would especially like to find out which app the hand controlled music app was.

Apple needs a commercial making fun of Samsung or something with comedy. What happened to those old "Mac vs. PC" ads? Those were good.

#1 never makes an ad referring to #2. It's always the opposite. That's why the mac v. PC ads make sense. PC was the #1 in that case.

I thought the commercial was badazz. And used a great, insanely-hip song to tap into the idea of what heights we're capable of with this level of technology at our fingertips.

Don't get me wrong, I like the direction of Apples recent ads, the more serious "empowering" angle. They're just beautiful pieces of film. But I think purely as advertisement, they're not as effective as Apples more playful ads. I think they really should switch it up and create more playful, lighthearted, or even funny ads. The iPod silhouette ads were fun. The original MacBook Air ad was playful and got your attention. The Mac vs PC ads were tongue-in-cheek and memorable. Even the original iPhone or "there's an app for that" ads were just lighthearted and showcased normal day-to-day scenarios using an iPhone.

We all know you can do some incredibly empowering things with iOS devices. I just think they need to throw in a few fun ads. People love movies like the Avengers not because they're brilliant pieces of cinema, but just because they're fun. While Apples recent ads are beautifully well-made pieces of film, they need to get some of that fun spirit back. Granted, some of that fun playfulness was definitely a signature of Steve Jobs involvement, you can see it just in his keynotes and the countless funny entertaining moments. But TBWA and Schiller I know can pull it off if they wanted to

Agree wholeheartedly.

This advertisement could very well be foreshadowing the products they could release in the future.
The term "Gigantic" could be in reference to a bigger screened iPhone in the product line up.
Also, the reference to the heartbeat sensor in the middle of the clip could also be in reference to a unreleased device. (maybe the iWatch?)

Or maybe I've gone crazy. :apple:

I'm surprised everyone is so down on this ad. Maybe it's just me, but what's really cool about this is that it shows just how incredible versatile the iPhone is, and most of these functions in the ad are things I doubt Apple even considered when they designed the phone.

Ten years ago, if asked I probably would have predicted that we'd have powerful computers in our pockets ten years later. But a pocket computer that is also a video camera, moving star map, guitar tuner, musical instrument (actually many, many instruments), voice recorder, remote lighting control, GPS, and powerful teaching tool? I never, ever would have guessed. And I'm just scratching the surface.

A second point is that this proves Android doesn't even come close when it comes to high quality and specialty apps and accessories. No one is extending the Samsung Galaxy functionality this far.

I enjoyed the jab at Samsungs heart rate monitor which highlights the fact that it is a useless inclusion. Other than the slow motion video, it does nothing to set the capabilities of the phone apart.

I think the reason why the ads have come to a standstill is that software features haven't really changed since the iPhone 4s. What else is there to highlight other than the fact that you can purchase accessories and apps? Third party support is what really differentiates them right now.

ha ha ha... exactly same conclusion. heart rate monitor. and thats all. other than that, the ad is not good

And my ears are bleeding. That might be the world's worst song. I've screamed better than that as a 5 year old.

Maybe you should get back into the DeLorean and let the Doc hear it. :D

Nah! I think you are heading in the right direction.

I thought about the "Gigantic" too, but at the same time, as if Apple was saying that the iPhone 5s may look small but people can do great ("Gigantic") things with it. So basically here's where the yellow brick road gets divided into two paths.

Not a huge fan of this advertisement. All the things they show can be done on other non iOS devices so It seems to be marketing smart phones more than Apple.

Apple seems to prefer the motivational approach mixed with happy thoughts than trashing the competitors' products.
Most people wouldn't like to sit through 90 seconds of a bad mouthing ad, but an ad like this one makes 90 seconds feel like 15 seconds, because they enjoy it.

No! Bashing is not a good option for good companies. But maybe they can make fun of Samsung without giving name of the company. Like they did with newspaper ad.

Apple actually pays the ad agencies to make these ;)

Yes, and after the agency made at least a hunder ads, Apple has to choose the right one. All these ads are specially selected, every scene and the messege it transmites is deeply considered. Apple is very much involved in the whole process.

I think its great, although I dont rly like the song. Could be better.
