I read somewhere that they are cloud connected. I hope that means something like activation lock to my AppleID. I dont want to have them stolen. Would be nice if they could be locked.

After seeing that video of the girl jumping up and down in them, I am thinking they might be okay for exercise. They also don't look as dorky as I expected them to. I'll keep thinking on it. The charging case and insta connectivity would really be nice.

Why tout wireless and then require you to reach for the phone for basic functionality.

You realize that it's still wireless just because you have to use your phone, right? o_O

The Dash have controls on the ear buds. Pause, skip rack, go back, volume up/down, start tracking activity, search for BT device, start audio transparency...

And twice the price.

it would be so simple to just walk up to someone and snatch it right out of their ear. The mic itself acts like a little handle to grab.

So this thief would get one ear bud presumably? Would be far easier and effective to snatch a pair of wireless Bose/BO/Beats cans off someones head.

Posting photos of pretty models vs. random tech-press dudes isn't a fair comparison ;) I personally really don't have a problem with how it looks. Everyone walks around with EarPods, but because the wires are gone it's suddenly weird? Give a few months and no-one cares anymore.

"When they’re in your ears, the AirPods kind of look like the old wired EarPods that someone snipped the wires off of. The earbud part fills your ear just as before, and a plastic stem hangs down a bit below your earlobe. They’re the same general shape as the EarPods and made from the same hard white plastic.

Now, that plastic has been a deal-breaker for me for years—I hate how normal EarPods feel in my ears. They don’t seem like they’re going to stay put, and they simply fall out if I move my head too much. Even if they do stay in, after about a half hour, my ears just start to ache, although I don’t experience the same pain when using earbuds with silicone or foam tips. Since the AirPods look so similar, I expected them to feel the same too—and I’m surprised and happy to report that I was dead wrong.

Not only did I dance, I headbanged. I shook my head side to side, I tossed my hair, I jogged in place, and I looked silly doing all of it. The AirPods stayed put, and they stayed loud. The music (more Sia, naturally) sounded full and lush and I couldn’t hear a single word anyone around me was saying, as if I was completely sealed off in a bubble of rock and roll. Pretty impressive."

I have a few reasons why I am so excited about this tech.
I unfortunately do have a few why I want to say this is currently a gimmick.

Since they did not include them as an option during the purchase process, and you have to pay 5x as much as for the current headset for them. And not to mention they're not even waterproof on some level, or matching your device. I am kinda feeling it's out because people were releasing their versions already. As if Apple just didn't want to give them time to get a marketshare and should have waited for the iOS11/iPhone8.

But here we are. Buying lightning docks and old jack earbuds to charge and talk at the same time, because we can't afford, nor have them included, in our 'new' courage device.

It's a gimmick. Learn from your gold edition watch, and should have waited, otherwise you can quietly discontinue this one next year if you don't make them 49$.

And probably a more useful thing for a thief to steal than a pair of Airpods which will be pretty useless unless you can also steal the charging case that goes with them. In my experience, most wireless headphones like Bose do not require a proprietary charging dock/ connector.

Hahahahaha! A dongle adapter? I don't believe it! What a joke! It must be. They actually did that? Oh man that sounds so backwards

Dongle? I didn't see anything like a dongle. I saw the "sticks" that seem to be used for the charger, but I didn't read or see anything that sounded nor looked like a dongle.

What I wonder about, as I do with any of these wireless earbuds, is how well they stay in one's ears and is there any kind of replacement protection should you lose one.

Ok - I could re-phrase it as "Bragi's The Headphone... all for $40 less than the AirPods (during the pre-sale $10 less for the regular price)"

Will these work with non-Apple devices and can be paired like a normal bluetooth accessory?

Also, why on earth do Apple still use this white plastic in ALL of their accessories? It looked good when MacBooks were white polycarbonate, but not now. I would love to have choice, these look great but the colour does not look good against my plethora of black gadgets. Same complaint with the magic mouse and keyboard.

From what I have read, they still function like typical Bluetooth accessories with non-Apple devices. You just lose access to the auto-pairing features of the W1 chip and Siri controls.

Awesome, now if the 3DS would just get bluetooth headphone support that would be perfect :p

What are the chances Apple making different Airpod colors to match the iphone colors.

I think this whole "color range" scheme is set in cement ..

Actually I was thinking about some coloured foam AirPod Warmers ...

starting off with Country Flags - thinking Olympics
team flags - NBA teams first, then Premier League, etc.

These would be about half and inch in diameter or 3/4" diameter thicker than the airpod battery chamber. This way, even for me it would look like a cool accessory to say: Glasses, Caps, or who knows. Add that to the other thread with the airpod clips would be perfect. I may just get this and implement this along with it for my new iPhone 6S 64GB!

It's not uncommon to have your iPhone in a briefcase or purse on a crowded subway. Or in a messenger bag while riding a bike. I don't want to pull out a phone just to change a track when working out.

So yes, I know already this product isn't for me...and I suspect for many others who see this as a major flaw.

"Hello Siri" one and one there is no need to tap the AirPods unless music playback is enabled.
I can see Apple doing a LOT more with the next firmware update:
dual accelorometers (just to know your jaw is moving? ********, there are future plans for this)

I think future innovation from Apple will come in the form of hand or head movement gestures that are common or culturally based. Don't laugh Im heavily serious.

We're not too far from this to be honest.
Personally I've owned the Jabra Stealth for 6mths and I get 4hrs continous talk times and I wear them for 10hrs a day - charging inbetween. I take a LOT of calls in the office and I use an IP softphone and nobody can tell what headset I'm using if any at all. Siri works PERFECTLY with it.

Funny how so many people are comfortable with these:

or these Jabra Eclipse

So AirPods + EarHooks (https://www.amazon.ca/Earhoox-EarPo...0&m1k=summer&t=summer&m2k=summer&mnsid=summer)

and foam and you're good. you'll not look like Frankenstein.

But nobody remembers these:

I've been using and following Stereo Bluetooth headphones for YEARS ... and I can tell you SonyEricsson is the king in terms of how many models released or various designs explored. Think of how many chargers Nokia had for phones they made and put that into bluetoth headphones SE has made. Boggling.

Quality has ALWAYS sucked ... Jabra Sport has been the best I've used over the past 8yrs but ... for phone call quality the Jabra Stealths rocked. I'm hoping these Apple AirPods do better in both!

Apple just keeps inventing! Now they come up with new junk to charge twice every day which means sooner or later it'll just be collecting dust in one of your drawers - but hey, it's "only" $159! The only thing better is the dongle they made for iPhone 7 for connecting a dongle so you can connect real headphones to that piece of junk and actually charge at the same time.

Everyone else is so last year, having only a single dongle. Only with Apple you can (edit: have to) use two to get basic functionality!

The hate is Stroooong with this one. So I'm very curious, where were you when Nokia, SonyErisson, Motorola did all this with chargers, cases, lanyards, ringtone support, etc? many the new kids on the block just don't know this is just the same thing repeated.

I DO loathe the increased out of warranty charges!

I've seen folks exercise with the old included pods, not falling out, but for me, they just don't fit nicely, so your YMMV.

I really don't see this as innovation as much as an attempt to extract money from the consumer.

I ordered the Earskinz earpod covers from Amazon that someone recommended on the accessories forum.

Darn included EarPods never stay in my ears which is a pain to keep fiddling with them. I like the sound quality of the EarPods to tell the truth so we'll see if they help.

I am also hoping they might fit the Airpods if needed which I do intend to try.

I disagree with the latter of your two statements, but, as far as your first statement goes, I totally agree. I wish more people would recognize this fact. Just because Apple puts out a pair of earphones (regardless of your feelings for why they put them out), it doesn't mean that pair of earphones is going to be for you.

Apple actually took the time to research the shape of peoples' ears and designed their earphones accordingly, but... that doesn't mean they're going to work for you. That's why a butt ton of companies create their own earphones with their own shape and their own style and their own options, etc., etc. If you don't like them, don't complain, just go try another brand. That's how life works. I don't get the complaining... what do people want Apple to do, create a custom made earphone just for them? You're not that special, now get over it.

It seems that it will work for 12% of the people for a $3B windfall for Apple, based on this survey.

It's possible that the Airpods may be the perfect holiday gift based on size, price, and novelty.

It may be the ideal give away gift that companies provide employees. It keeps the workplace quiet & productive. I would put company logos on the sides.

Hello multi-colored Airpods.

But good luck with that in public like a bus or something where you have to say: Siri, next song, no, next song. Grrrrrr damnit, next song again, nononono, next song and so on. Would be pretty funny to see something like that in action, lol.

That would be fun.

Siri, next song.

Everyone with Airpods would have their song changed.

Some would get upset.

It would be a battle of the Siri commands in a crowded area.

Fun. Funny.
