This is just plain BS!
The industry have had their way for years, and now that Apple wants to do something about it, they are petty?
Makes no sense!

Just don't!

I would find it terrible if Apple decided to no roll out this feature, letting them blackmail themselves by FB and sort a like losers!

This feature should not be delayed. These advertising companies should have to bend over backwards to get people to opt-in to their rubbish.

Exactly, I think the internet needs a redo, no opt outs anymore, your data is your data only, there should be a worldwide body which you could go to to ask for your data to be deleted, if this is not done in a timely matter they should be fined.

Why would Apple choose to delay? What would be the benefit for Apple customers or Apple bottom-line?

You say that while you're on MacRumors, which sells your data to numerous advertisers. Little ironic.

From an ad-supported app dev here. One solution developers will adopt to make up for potential 50% revenue drop will be to show ads twice as frequently. Is Apple concerned about this? Probably not. Apple is probably just giving ad networks more time to adapt.

Which phone would that be?

Assuming you care for/about advertisements to begin with, and then assuming you are OK with that personalization coming at the cost of various personal information being used and/or shared about you.

I actually quite like the way Google does it. All advertising is in house, so none of the data ever leaves their servers. And I get multiple opportunities to help improve their services by information I provide being made mobile across services.

Apple has better apps and services, but nothing beats GSuite for schoolwork. Even in college.

Only reason I could think of would be

(pure-speculation)
some kind of corporate extortion in the spirit of "Hey Tim Apple, if you do not delay this ad-revenue killing feature until we figure how to work around it, we'll demote iOS to a 2nd class platform for our ultra-popular social media app: having less features for iOS users comparing to Android."

I heard of a great new feature. Implement the add tracking notification, and allow customers to sell the rights to have their data be sold by the add trackers. That way the customer benefits from this sleazy behavior if they want to, or opt out if the don't. I would personally bit $1000/month. If thee advertisers don't take it, what have you got to lose?

https://www.apple.com/privacy/ :D

I hope they will stand by that first § !

Privacy is a fundamental human right. At Apple, it’s also one of our core values. Your devices are important to so many parts of your life. What you share from those experiences, and who you share it with, should be up to you. We design Apple products to protect your privacy and give you control over your information. It’s not always easy. But that’s the kind of innovation we believe in.

Don’t do it Apple. You’ll just appear weak and then Tim will be expected to cave into everything thing and everyone. Remember Apple you are the one that just released that privacy video today. Don’t be afraid if Facebook is irked.
It would be great if Apple gave some kind of idea of how long this delay is going to be. If its truly just a short delay (6 months or less), then its not the worst thing. But if Apple delays this for a long indefinite period, or scraps it all together, I think their brand is going to take a serious hit.

Another Good Move by AAPL.

Next up, Cancelling the Decision to RE-direct media websites to Apple News !

After that, an Announcement that "Alternative iOS App Stores" are now up for consideration !!

The existing iOS App Store needs both App Discovery (most important) & Pricing competition.

NOT Rocket Science, AAPL has been allowed to overstep its bounds, & become the Monopoly that it is.

The simple fact that Cook & Co have been able to Control the Narrative the past "n" years is proof positive that AAPL does in-deed have a Monopoly !

And, I'm sure AAPL's Upper Mgmt fully understands that if they don't do something positive, Congress will !!!

So, the time is right for AAPL to begin to become PRO-active !

Would love to see Cook announce that AAPL will (soon) release per-Qtr, per-Category Revenue Numbers for the entire history of the iOS App Store here in the States !

Transparency is most important !

After that, Trust, but Verified (per our 40th Pres, Ronald Reagan).

i dont want ads. period.. .im already paying for all apps i use (i avoid subscriptions based apps btw)

Just going to leave a little Bill Hicks here...

By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing…kill yourself. It’s just a little thought; I’m just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day they’ll take root – I don’t know. You try, you do what you can.

Seriously though, if you are, do.

Aaah, no really. There’s no rationalisation for what you do and you are Satan’s little helpers. Kill yourself.

Seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good.

Seriously.

No this is not a joke. You’re going, “There’s going to be a joke coming.” There’s no f--king joke coming. You are Satan’s spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are f--ked and you are f--king us. Kill yourself. It’s the only way to save your f--king soul. Kill yourself.

Planting seeds.

I know all the marketing people are going, “He’s doing a joke…” There’s no joke here whatsoever. Suck a tail-pipe, f--king hang yourself, borrow a gun from a Yank friend – I don’t care how you do it. Rid the world of your evil f--king machinations.

Maybe another...

"Hey Tim Apple, if you do not delay this ad-revenue killing feature until we figure how to work around it, we'll go and cry real loud (as in $100M+ lobby budget loud) to all Apple-critical regulatory bodies about how Apple has unfair and uncompetitive market power that can disrupt industries overnight without proper regulatory oversight"
(/pure-speculation)

Not sure how well this kind of cry would fly in EU, where attitude towards protecting consumer privacy is more pro-privacy than pro-ad-company-revenues. Big lobby $$$ might wreck havoc for Apple in US though.

Eric Seufert, an ads industry analyst, said it "simply wasn't possible for developers to adapt their advertising infrastructure" to Apple's proposed IDFA change in time for the public release of iOS 14

That means find another way to track you.

Can we get a list of the developers that were throwing a fit? I want to make sure to not download their apps - or delete the ones I already have.

Let users decide if they want it on or off. Apple is just providing a feature. Do not delay!
It should be noted that we already have this feature in iOS 13. It's just a (somewhat hidden) opt-out option. Simply go to Privacy/Advertising in the settings and activate "Limit Ad Tracking". This will prevent apps from getting your IDFA.

The complaint by the advertisers is that tracking will be opt-in in the future, which means that many more people will not allow it.
