Become a MacRumors Supporter for $50/year with no ads, ability to filter front page stories, and private forums.
A lot of armchair developers who don't understand what an incredible burden this was for developers. While the goal is audible, asking developers to basically upend their entire monetization tech stack and strategy in less than 90 days was never feasible.

Facebook saw eCPMs for developers using their Audience Network drop by FIFTY PERCENT in their experiments. That puts a lot of small developers of apps of all stripes out of business basically overnight. That's not okay and it's clear Apple didn't understand what they were asking of developers.

Like ATS, this should be phased in. Supported from the outset, but delayed enforcement so developers can actually support it properly.

Is there a way to serve up relevant ads and protect consumer privacy? If not then everyone should be willing to pay to use Facebook, search on Google etc. But who’s willing to pay Facebook X dollars per month to use the product? My guess is very few otherwise a paid version would already exist.

Wow, this is extremely disappointing from Apple. I might not buy the iPhone in protest if they so this. WTH?!?
Lol, not sure how you can be disappointed in Apple, they haven't done anything. This is a rumor on rumor site. If Apple did decide to delay then it would be presumably because they realized from feedback from developers that a few months isn't enough time for people to update to such a massive change. When Apple ignores dev concerns people criticize them, and in this rumor where they would be potentially delaying to allow devs more time to update they are also criticized. Remember that titles on this site are editorilized to get as many views and comments (which results in more views) as possible since MacRumors gets money from all the ads.

So let's all take a breath, and be grateful that Apple continues to add more privacy features every year where others do not (until they are forced to after Apple does). Apple does a lot of a questionable things that deserve scrutiny, but Apple's continues progress on privacy is quite welcome.

So many angry people. But how many are actually going to email/write Apple or Tim Cook about how you feel about this?

Apple clearly listens to LOUD complainers and whiners, like the loudmouth Zuckerberg and his Facebook crybabies and their army of advertising allies. They all complained loudly to Apple, and it put pressure on Apple to delay this feature. So clearly Apple does listen to and cave in to the whiners, at least the very loud and potent ones.

NOW is our turn to loudly complain to Apple....

I may switch to another phone if they do this. I don't see any reason why they would do this other than influence from Facebook
lol, what phone do you plan on switching to, since you can be certain Android is not going to have a feature that helps destroy their core business. In regards to you not seeing any reason, it explicity notes in the article they because devs say that a few months notice isn't enough time to make the changes needed. The past months people have been complaining Apple doesn't care about developers, and a 'rumor' arrises that they may 'delay' to allow a little more time for devs/companies to prepare, and they get in trouble for that too. So yes, please switch to another phone company that values privacy more than Apple and please let us all know which company that is.

I think Apple is partially to blame. Tim Cook recently said 84% of apps in the App Store are free. OK well if they’re not games full of micro-transactions then how are they able to make their app free without inserting ads? Consumers have become accustom to not paying for software. Some of the apps they use the most don’t cost them any money to use. I’d love to survey Facebook and Instagram users and see how many would pay a monthly fee to use those apps ad-free. I guarantee you it wouldn’t be enough to make it worthwhile.

Unfortunately Apple is a business and not a charity. They will do what makes the most profit for the company. If that means selling ads or blocking ads

Apple is not in business of selling ads. (they literally do not profit from ads)

The exception I can think of is selling default setting for search engine to the highest bidder. Indirectly they are benefitting from ad revenues there, but even then they are not really selling ads.

I hate hate hate that ads follow me across apps by using Amazon and other apps. I’m increasingly moving to browser based activity and splitting usage between browsers.

For all the people complaining, go ahead and stay on iOS 13 and never have this option available down the road. Want to switch phones? Go ahead, as if Android is going to implement this feature. Blackberry? They run Android now. Maybe a consumer cellular phone? Apple isn't giving up on this, just delaying. Is it ideal? Not at all.

That's not entirely true. They do sell ads in the app store and in Apple News. Of course it's a small business compared to the likes of Facebook.

One of the regular posters has been advocating that Apple should be and could be the Facebook Killer. He may not be pleased with this development.

What’s the point? You switch to another phone (non iPhone) and you’re in the same boat of no privacy lol

Unfortunate that they are caving in even for a little while. But all the more reason to keep my pi-hole going strong.

Wait, did you think the competition was doing better? Apple was doing something no one else was — now they are facing pressure to delay it, where can you go that is actually doing this?

It kind of seems Apple is doing everything they can to get on the good side of developers...
