It's survival of the fittest. People who wear Crocks have a lower life-expectancy than people wearing leather shoes. In addition, people with leather shoes are less bound to have belly-button piercings, PC computers and tattoos.. :D

What if I wear Crocks occasionally at home while doing garden work, but where leather Sketchers at work, do not have a belly button ring, do have a couple tattoos, do have a PC but also a PB G4 and plan on getting a new MB? :D

This is all true by the way.

Hmmm...

What if I emit toxic fumes when I start up in the morning?

Have someone smell your breath...

The 'you are what you eat' cliche took on new meaning when a co-worker years ago had breath that literally smelled like ****. He had a stomach virus and a bad ulcer. He ate some of the strangest stuff... We all thought his stomach was going to revolt, and it did.

The problem with stereotypes is that they rarely fit the group of people that they are applied to hence using them is rather lame.

I know some of the most conservative people that have macs.

Yes...

Yes, ok.

But I thought we already knew about it. They warned us back in January.
Don't you remember:

"There's something in the air"

The mere idea that there might be toxic fumes emitted is enough to rate this article a negative.

I don't like the idea of this one bit.

Lost in Translation

The word user has been omitted in the translation of the headline:D

I thought this was spreading to the other products Apple makes, and it really scared me, Here I am using my BMB and I got this really toxic smell, as I was about to call Apple on my i phone 3 G, I smelled it again, alarmed, OMG ,my phone ,it smells the same as my BMB. Thankfully I got through to Apple and they diagnosed it as the refried bean Taco I had for dinner last night.
Applecare is really worth the money!!:D:D:D
Toxic smells my a**! Give me a break:p

Having fixed a load of these machines, all I can suggest is that it might have been a refurb or undergone a repair. A re-engineered circuit board might have been cleaned with a solvent that's used at the repair depot which smells like a mixture of acetone and oranges. I bet that's what they're smelling.

please Apple... don't act like Philip Morris...Speak!

Next...someone is going to say it's good to inhale the fume as he believe he will become a superhero maybe...

I don't know if any of you guys have actually read the french article. The newspaper 'Liberation' is something serious like NYtimes. The researcher was working at the CNRS, which is quite a serious institution...
I am using mac products for many years... but I really don't want to get ill because of the computer sitting next to me. So if Apple or any other company has computer that are dangerous for our health, then we need to know.

Slowly, quietly push your desk away from the laser printer. Don't bend over too close to the industrial carpeting if it was cleaned recently. Wait, you're too close to the unfiltered HVAC ducts. :(

It might sound funny, but this was one of the main reasons I got rid of my mac pro. It smelled like a bastard! If that thing was toxic, ill join that lawsuit!

Benzene and acetone do not at all smell alike, if someone tells you they do... well probably coffee and almonds do also for him/her.

Unless they do some headspce/GC analysis... benzene cannot be identified with certainty... just claiming it is not enough.

Btw, most probably was toluene or ethyl acetate (used in glues), both known carcinogens (together with benzene).

Otoh, hot asphalt is much more dangerous due to a higher content in poly-aromatic compounds and available in larger amounts on almost every street compared to the probably insignificant amount found on a computer, why not sue the state ?

Holy crap! I wonder if Steve's cancer is due to heavy Mac Pro use. I wonder if the same crap comes out of the servers .mac/.me servers. Lack of healthy engineers might explain why the service really sucks.

On a serious note, I use a mac pro at home. I had just brought a pack and play to put next to my desk (right in front of my mac pro) when my wife forwarded me the news. We have a 6 month old daughter. This news is concerning!

My MacBook Pro emits fumes

On occasions my 17" MacBook Pro emits a noxious smell. And another thing, I can't use it as a laptop unless I want 3rd degree burns on my lap. Way too hot!

Hmm...

Does Apple still make computers ?

Good point. They could actually me 'made' at many different plants in China.

I had problems with an HP printer so I called HP and got the strangest answer to my questions. HP doesn't make the printer, they didn't program the firmware, they don't even provide the support for it. Yet I paid for their name on it.
