Apple is back in the saddle! Should be a good Quarter.

$384,000 ?? nice house, Apple earns that much every hour or so.. :D

Printing is nice, but not too big of a deal. Most of the companies that make printers have free apps that allow you to print to a networked printer.

So will I be able to stream music from my iPhone 4 to Airport Express with this update?

Here here, that's what I want to know too. I was shocked it was available with the initial release of the iPad and for me it's one of most sought after features. Granted, the iPhone doesn't have it, but I never missed it. However since the iPad is a wi-fi device and I use it strictly within my house, I would expect it to act like my MacBook and recognize my shared iTunes library. C'mon Apple, get with it.

My most sought after iPad features:
1. Folders (same as it was for the iPhone pre-iOS 4)
2. Multitasking (even more important on the iPad than my iPhone)
3. AirTunes support (see above)
4. Retina display (as great as it is on the iPhone, it will blow everyone's socks off on the iPad and I could use the extra resolution when reading text)
5. Tabbed Safari browsing - the current method of switching between open screens is clunky and some kind of tabs feature would make a lot more sense
6. Printing - check :)
7. FaceTime - I don't need it, but it would be incredibly awesome to have.
8. CoverFlow in iTunes - Why isn't it there already?

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones that I think of the most.

OMG a retina display on the Ipad 2.0 would be totally awesome! I am down for that next spring. Come on people it will be next spring before we see the ipad 2.0...it will get all of the stuff above.....the problem is iOS 5.0 will not come out till summer with the Iphone 5.

Notice that the iOS and the phone versions are same....Apple thought this out good.

But will it compromise battery life?

I'm excited for the release, but wonder if it will compromise battery life during use. iOS4 killed the battery life on my second gen iPod almost to the point that it's unusable. I'll wait to see what other user's experiences are before taking the plunge.

... if you have a NAS drive with iTunes server running, which is attached to your router.

I use an app called PlugPlayer that connects straight to the NAS via WiFi without the need for my MBP running iTunes.

It's great, and now that AirPlay can stream to my Airport Express units around the house, even less need to switch on the MBP.

Great stuff! :D

Or you could do something really crazy like sync your iTunes library to your iPad. I realize that some people have massive libraries that may not fit on the iPad, but at least a few thousand songs will fit.

I think the coolest scenarios with AirPlay are:

- I come home (or to a friend with AppleTV) and can show of some photos from my iPhone on his/my TV without syncing them first or using any cables. Because Apple wants other device companys with Airplay on board, he/I don't even need an AppleTV. Just a compatible device.

- Other scenario: I'm watching a movie while having dinner on my iPad. Then go to the living room and switch the running movie directly to the big TV. Half an hour later, I decide i'd rather go to bed and finish the movie there. I grab my iPad and switch the running movie to the AppleTV in the bedroom.

How cool is all that? Apple is really making a StarTrek like interaction with technology a reality. And some tech in iPhone/iPad makes StarTrek look outdated even today :)

I like your scenario, but you really should not go to bed 30 minutes after dinner. It's not good for you esophagus.

Yes, yes, yes a thousand times yes. Apple - why not make the iPad an AirPlay destination like the AppleTV and Airport Express are? I do NOT want to sync movies to my iPad, I want to stream them like I do with my AppleTV.

The whole point of the iPad is to sync those items to the device from you iMac.

Multi user support for a mobile device? No sense to me, it is supposed to be a personal device or a device specifically used at home for all the family. These scenarios both don't need multiple users. IOS must be light.

...then how about a password on the email? dont really like handing over the keys to the castle to every man woman and child that happens to the coffee table.

They should have just added DLNA support

I've used lots of different devices that support DLNA and the bottom line is it is a crappy experience overall. Maybe barely ok for music and photos but especially not for video. Even with music and photos it is too often a frustrating experience. My #1 gripe is fast forwarding or rewinding a DLNA stream results in a horrendous user experience and often breaks the stream and produces errors which requires backing out and opening the file up again. There doesn't appear to be any type of error recovery built in to current implementations and I have tried them all. My #2 gripe is it appears that manufacturers don't implement the standard correctly or something because not all DLNA devices work well together if at all.

The killer device

What I see when I think about the iPad with iOS 4.2, and the retina display, two cameras, and facetime is a amazing device that will have such a huge lead, it will take years for anyone to catch up.

Somehow Apple doesn't like Scandinavia – these folks have to wait until November to get their first iPad. Just six months ahead of the next, presumably even better iPad. Which will be $50 more expensive.

Steve could make a nice gesture, and give them the next version ahead of everyone else. That would be nice, but Steve doesn't speak Ikea and thus... no go.

The whole point of the iPad is to sync those items to the device from you iMac.

I think it makes sense to be able to stream from an iTunes account on a Mac, with oodles of storage space. Who wants to sync time and again for different videos if they won't all fit on board? The cynic in me thinks this feature is not available to encourage people to buy more expensive, higher capacity iPads... otherwise many would go for 16GB and be done with it.

Let's add printing for all iOS devices. :D

It's coming. It'll work on the Touch, as well as the iPhone. The question is: who and what can access print-services?! But I suppose developers will get full access to the printing APIs.

I wonder when we will get the iOS 4.2 beta :confused::confused:

Nobody ever wonders why it takes so long? Apple has issues getting multitasking to work on the iPad due to say memory constraints?
