Is there really a statistically significant percentage of people who have iPhones but don't have access to a computer for purposes like this?

I know at least one phone-only person. Phones really have gotten good enough that you don't absolutely NEED a computer for day to day things anymore, though I personally would never want to do without.

Having had an Apple Watch that had a ! Show on the screen after a failed update, and have to be sent off to depot to be repaired, this is worrying. The inability to do a DFU restore are home which would have taken 30 minutes meant I was without a device for 3 days.

Luckily it was only my watch, but if it was my phone or iPad it would be inexcusable.

There are many working mail apps. Just not the one from Apple.
Weirdly today's beta seems to have improved it for me. So far.

I will withhold judgment until I see it working for more than a few successive hours, because I've been disappointed so many times before.

A portless phone would suck; wireless charging is only 60% efficient. That means you just lost 40% of the capacity of your powerbank right there.

They could replace lightning with a power-only port, similar (but not identical), for example, to the three pin port on the back of iPad pros.

This literally would fix this.
Apple Watch update failed? Boot into recovery mode and reinstall latest available software.
My guess is because of the disastrous watchOS 6 beta bricking, and the disastrous HomePod 13.2 update

Port-less iPhone in 2021, here we go.
I certainly hope not! (Though this may be inevitable.) I like to be able to plug my iPhone in to charge while I read or watch video on it especially after going to bed. Also my phone is my alarm clock that wakes me by vibration through the pillow (I'm hearing impaired and don't wear a hearing aid while I sleep). Placing a wireless charging pad under the pillow with my phone doesn't sound very effective or practical. Actually I would worry about the extra heat. My iPhone 11 Pro Max has an incredible battery life, but I still like to charge it every night. (I was able to use it for 12 hours continuously at work without needing to charge it. It got down to a record low of 11%, it's the first phone I have never fully drained.)

No, I'm not currently concerned about my phone getting hot while charging under my pillow, nor am I concerned about the non-ionizing radiation emitted from the phone while I sleep. (No need to comment about the unproven detrimental effects of radio waves on my brain. I feel awesome.)

I will be happy with them ditching the port as long as they can provide wireless charging that offers fast charge capabilities.

Wonder how you tell it what network to use. I guess you still need to use some functioning device to control the non-functioning device and tell it to restore?
I suppose they could just move a copy of the "choose your network" code that far down into the flash.

Hopefully the EU mandating a USB C charging port will stop that stupidity before it ever happens.

Yes, quite a few. Seniors who were gifted a phone or pad who’ve never used a computer (and, conveniently, many live in Florida where there are too few Apple Stores); lower-income folks who only have 64GB Windows netbooks with about 2GB free space (not enough to store an iOS image; people on vacation who didn’t bring their computer; etc. They are a relatively significant driver of calls to AppleCare.

Portless? So does that mean that every car with Apple CarPlay is redundant? Not gonna happen.
No, they’ll make a pricey dongle that’ll attach to the input and operate over Bluetooth.

I wonder if a port-less device is Apples answer to a GreyKey.

Finally. Hopefully this more simple approach comes to macOS as well.

Check Facebook Marketplace, people be selling their Macs without the HDD being reformated.
I see it all the time.
