While they're designing the new iMac chassis... I hope they're thinking about offering the same design as a standalone monitor.

Imagine having this new iMac and a matching 2nd monitor. Apple is leaving money on the table if they don't.

Clearly the 3rd-party market for Mac monitors left much to be desired.

I've had two iMacs: 2009 27" and now a 2019 27". Both are fantastic machines that happen to sport a stunning 27" display that's probably upwards of $1000 on the market if you can find it. The way iMacs manage thermals, while retaining desktop-level performance is an engineering feat. In both cases, there was nothing even close on the market from the Windows side for all-in-ones when going spec for spec.

The one thing I never cared about was bezels. It's not a handheld device, and you already have this large screen on your desktop. Are minimalist aesthetics that important? Would most users really prefer aggressively-styled hardware over a timeless design? Obviously this is a matter of personal choice.

no more 21.5" and 27"...so dont expect 27" but around 30" and the smaller one will be around 23-24"

MCK has been rumoring for over a year of Apple sourcing a 5K 27" MiniLED panel for an iMac so I am hoping that is what the "big brother" will use since I can continue to use my ASUS QHD 27" as my secondary monitor.

That being said, if Apple's rumored new standalone display uses the same panel, then I am okay with something larger and with a custom resolution (like 6K).

What I do not want is a 6K 32" iMac and then have only 32" 4K display options for my second monitor because they will not be Retina nor "half-Retina" and anything else looks like ass with macOS.

Hopefully the new iMac will look like a really big iPad on a really big Magic Keyboard (without the keyboard).

I actually like the cantilevered look, and it'd be a great successor to the current iMac form factor.

Target display would be interesting, but not sure how useful it'd be. I had a mac that supported that and never used it, even to test it out. Maybe it'd be better in this day/age because you could use it to big-screen your iPad.

Maybe a better way would to make it Airplay-2 compatible, so you could mirror to it.

Clear different cases....you cant speak about an 2009 gpu that was dedicated with this new one that is unified
You are really talking about an issue from almost 12 years ?!
Yes, because they sold the targeted display mode as being able to use the iMac as a second display when I upgraded. Only, it required the GPU to function. The weight of the GPU cooler pulled the GPU out of the daughterboard killing the iMac and it's ability to be used as monitor. Instead of owning the issue and fixing it or replacing it they told me to buy a new iMac.

I just hope they make it lighter so I can more easily mount it without needing to rig extra support to keep it straight in my vesa mount.

This would be awesome, I wonder if Apple will also update the display? Or keep it at 5K.

I'm only worried about speaker performance with a thin design. I don't mind a bulge (giggety) on the back. Anybody who opened an iMac knows how much speakers is in there - it's a lot of speaker volume, and that enables the relatively good sound from the iMac rendering external speakers unnecessary for many.

So I want the minimized bezels as in the rendering - but please don't remove the speakers.
