Now you are spinning what you originally implied. Oh well. Take care.

Not really, I covered this in the last page of posts as well.....the iPod / iPhone thing was in reference to you saying "the white macbook was apples highest selling product....so it must have been good looking" .....when I dont think the whitebook/blackbooks design correlates with the increase in sales. That was the point of bringing that back up. Those products expanded the market and exposed apple's OTHER products to millions more people.

LOL I didn't start the argument guy. I was responding. You should direct that question to the person who brought it up to begin with a few posts back.

I freaking LOVE the damn NEW Macbook for the most part. I also LOVE the previous one. It seems like the new owners of the new Macbook spend so much time tearing down the previous gen one. Is it insecurity or what. Thing is some of us don't worship the thing or think it is all that great like some. If people make wisebutt comments against the other gen then expect to get that in return. It is all about respect.

I never said I hated the old MBs. There is not doubt denying that it was an amazing computer. Anybody who doesn't see that must be crazy. It was the best sold mac and it had great features. There were pluses and minuses with it just like there are with the new one.
I can't help but love the new one MORE :) haha... I'm biased of course because it's my first mac and i LOVE it.
BUT my friends just went out and bought the blackbook because he got a better deal on it, and he had always wanted one of those. It's as simple as that... I can't control what makes YOU like or dislike a computer :)

Oh come on.. I'm a new convert, but even I remember looking at those old MBs and wanting one because they were just cool. The build was different than anything on the market, the overall experience of the laptop coupled with OS X was just fabulous, and that's what made a LOT of people go Apple.

All this debates on which (old or new) MB looks better... may be someone should start a poll on ... which MB would you buy if you get to choose all over again?

- definitely the aluminum MB
- either, and the plastic MB if Apple lowers the price more
- always the plastic (white/black) MB even if it costs the same as (or more than) the aluminum MB

I do agree that price was a big reason for macbook(white) sales, it is obvious that it was the cheapest fully functional apple computer. The mini was cheaper, but it doesnt have a screen or even keyboard/mouse bundled to its price.

Personally I know a lot of people that got the white macbook simply because it was the cheapest, not because they found its looks so compelling.

Lets keep in mind that it was the cheapest laptop computer that would offer a REAL OS X experience (I know about OS X in other computers, but it is not the same experience). I do find it pretty evident that its price was a big factor for its sales, probably more than its looks.

Same with ipod shuffle, some people buy it cause it is what suits their needs, some because it is the cheapest and it can afford.

I havent seen anyone saying that white/black macbooks design is awesome, i've heard such comments regarding the new aluminum designs. Some people would get the macbook for its 13" size, since 15" was too big for them.

In my case, I love the new design over the past one, I think aluminum provides a more serious look than white plastic that tends to get very very dirty, and for me I do move my laptop around with no case, aluminum so far has shown to be easier to clean.

Some people might hate the fact that now the "cheapest" apple computer shares the look with the higher end models, but they also raised the price for this product.

Apple design is evolving, and some people cant seem to get used to that idea, if you take a look around you will see that all the current designs are aluminum, imac, laptops, ipods (even touch has a aluminum frame on it, or at least my 1g touch looks like) and they are walking away from those plastics.

I personally believe that it was the right move, as the ibook/macbook has been made with white plastic for quite a while now, ever since the introduction of the ibook G4. Back then Apple bragged about the materials it was built with, thing that I dont recall they did with the macbooks as posssibly it was a way cheaper material than the one they used. I think the ibooks were said to be made from the same thing as some bullet proof vests, and it was considered shock resistant.

In my campus most people had the white macbook, lower end model, simply because of it is price, not because of its looks, of that I'm sure and so was the case in my house with 2 we got, it was within the budget and filled our needs, it was a combination of both, there wasnt a need to get PRO, but price was a big factor.

As for overall sales, price wasnt the only factor, but it was probably the biggest one, lets be realistic. It was the most affordable product they had, it is no wonder that it sold a lot, more than its design.

I dont recall appple showing off the design of the macbooks at all, not like this one at least.

I love the look and feel of the new one, metal wont be matched by plastic and for me it works and I love it. They have a pro look, and Im sure that most people find the design appealing more than the older one.

In my personal taste, I like the black bezel, and it doesnt bother me at all. I find the design pretty unique, I believe some sony laptops began to look like the white macbook.
I know i went with the Black for school way back when they came out because it was the thinest, fastest, lightest, cheapest, Mac. Yeah i wanted a MBP but it was huge and i i had a very powerful home computer. To tell you the truth i think the White MB looks like sh*t abd the black one looks almost as bad. But now i have the Air s its all good:D

i hate the new macbook/macbook pro design.. the macbook air is really nice but the black with aluminum looks ugly.. wouldnt it be amazing if it had white keyboard like the aluminum imac keyboard?
one word UGLY

I thought about that, i even put my iMac keyboard on top of my Air to see how it would look. Looks very very odd.

Why do looks matter to you so much people? As long as it does the job well, looks should not matter right?
Especially to those that dislike the MacBook/Pro design, why do you have so much dislike in you, just why? Can't you get used to it and it will grow on you and maybe you will start to like? Why dislike everything new? So what, now you are not going to not buy a Mac because it is not up to your standards on look department?

I actually like the looks of the white/black MacBooks, but Black looks a lot better.

All subjective. I wanted black but the metal look has quickly grown on me

Only thing is the two-tone black/silver contrast which I am indifferent to as its a superb machine

I do think silver on the body works a lot better than silver on the lid though

Actually the screen quality is the same. Yes the new one is brighter, but that is it. My friends new 2.0 alu Macbook screen is no better than mine. We even went to the Apple Store and compared 5 of them side by side. This issue has been beaten to death on here I agree, but most people came to my conclusion (now the new owners will come and attack).

The brightness is actually a pretty large factor

Are you kidding me?! Listen to what you're saying... Of course looks matter! It's not the MAIN reason, but it sure helps if you actually like what your things look like.
I liked the old MB and was going to buy one in august, but then I heard about the new ones coming out and decided to wait. I'm glad I did, because I REALLY like the new ones.

They shouldn't if you think about it.

Is that how you buy your cars too? Do you just base everything on performance, etc?? I think there is a balance between a bunch of different qualities in buying a laptop, just like there is for any other product.
Of course I'm not going to go out and buy something just because it looks good, because it might end up being a piece of crap. But for me at least, looks are definitely part of the equation. :D

totally disagree with this.

the new designs are ugly? really? =\ I guess fruity colors and cheap discoloring plastics are your thing

Well said.

The last three look MUCH better than those before them.

And yes, it IS silly. MY OPINION. You don't wear the damn things, you USE THEM.

Will the new MacBook (for the people that dislike it) ever grow on you (means that will you ever like it as time progresses)?

Nope. It's just not that great, and I think a huge mistake was made by doing away with firewire. I also find it odd that they actually lowered the specs and still want $1299 for the middle one. Before, you got a 2.4 for $1299.

Ladies and Gentlemen, find me an "ugliest" laptop image you can find and let me critique it, if I can. :)
