I like it, i like the new keyboard, i like the glass, i like the bezel.

If apple did this exact update and was still silver, i can guarentee that there would be a "why does apple stick to ancient designs" thread.

I don't see why everyone is hating on these new notebooks, I personally think they look great, I've had a MBA and I think the black looks fine on the silver aluminium.

Although the black bezel is kinda lame, if they kept it like the MBA it would've been fine. I like the new clickable trackpad idea though.

Just look at it in person when it comes in the stores?

I could probably live with glossy screen( I think it is way too glossy compared with old glossy screen) but lack of firewire port killed the deal. I mean what is going on- Steve told that here you are- $700 less for macbook pro... Well not so- it ain't pro. Since when firewire became pro feature?

If only there was an option for black anodised aluminium! ;)

Black display bezel, black keys, but silver aluminium case? That's like wearing a red tie with a green shirt!

Those old Blackbooks certainly look a lot more "Pro" now!

Indeed. I'd say all three models (the whitebook, the blackbook, and the old MBP) look classier than the modern MB/P. The MB/P looks like someone with a grey laptop popped out all the keys for black ones and painted the screen bezel to match. Not professional.

Black/silver isn't necessarily bad, but Jonathan Ive is giving me fits with what his design team has done since the MacBook Air (which I find attractive, but not their most attractive). After that, it's all gone downhill. I have found the iPhone 3G, iPod Nano, new iPod Touch, and now MB/P and LED Cinema Display to all have a kind of cheap consumer-y look. They don't look like Apple computers, they look like HPs. Eww.

Black keyboard with silver isn't necessarily bad (I liked a lot of the macbook/pro mockups that looked like a MacBook Pro + black chiclets, and I do like the MBA), but the new bezel is garish, and the trackpad sounds weird. The white Apple logo on the display also looks disgusting.

i think the laptops will look better in person just like the air. the pictures on apple's website are DISGUSTING. they look like cheap mockups someone did on these forums.

Second that.

Imo, Air > Blackbook > New MB > Old MBP > Whitebook > New MBP.

Huh? New MB and new MBP are exactly the same apart from screen size? Surely, whatever order you place them in, they should be next to eachother?

all about taking PC marketshare

I really like the new designs and I think their greatest benefit is that they will be taken seriously in the workplace. Let's face it, as a professional, i really couldn't walk into meetings with a white macbook - it was very "college-like". The Macbook Pro was fine of course. But now, with these new designs, I can't wait to get a Macbook for work and will have no issues bringing it to all meetings and conferences. I think it will be a homerun - very similar to the imac transition away from the white - I also have a new iMac at work and everyone loves it (even the IT guys)...

Funny, I've never cared for a single moment what anyone thought about the looks of my laptop computer. What business is that to anyone else? Also, consider how many people never remove those stickers that come plastered all over most Windows laptops. They don't seem to care how geeky that looks, and more power to them, if that makes them happy.

I'm trying to reserve judgement until I see them in person, but my first, snap decision was "wow, those MBP's are some kind of ugly".

However, I think the MB's aren't quite as bad, even though they are carbon copies of the MBP's. Maybe b/c they're smaller and therefore have less ugly to show.

The black bezel and glass do nothing for me, but who knows, maybe I'll see them in-store and swoon. Still won't buy one though ;)

Maybe I am just biased towards sleek black laptops. I think that the outgoing blackbook's were very nice, and it would be cool to have had an all black aluminum for the new ones; I guess its off to colorware now haha.

I completely agree. The new MB and MBP's are simply not worth the money.

If I'm going to spend insane amounts of money on a laptop, I want it to look good, and I goddamn want FW. Now I have to go to the MBP to get FW, meaning even more money, and the damn thing has turned fugly.

I don't know what to do now. Maybe build a studio rig myself. Shame.

... and what on earth were they thinking letting the Blackbook go, and keeping the white version? That just doesn't make any sense at all.
