Just plain ugly with the black sided screen and keyboard. Its just plain ugly (Mostly) i tried to like it but yuck...

It reminds me of my old first gen Tandy Color computer. It was silver painted plastic with a black keyboard. I ended up taking paint remover to the case and ended up with a black computer with black keys. On top of that the keys on the coco were exactly like the new macbook keyboard, maybe a little larger keys.

Saw them today.

The macbook is growing on me. I like it. How it looks anyway.

Macbook Pro, on other hand, is ugly. It was sitting next to its 17" and the old one looks so much nicer.

I seriously don't get it - it was so glossy and kind of glitzy and ugly. The macbook on other hand looks better - don't know why, maybe less space around key board etc, so more black balancing silver.

Apple going down hill??

I always liked the new iMac - so its not something just about black and silver for me.

And macbook 2.4 is now officially a rip off - still with integrated graphics and it doesn't even have firewire

I have the new Macbook Pro, but both the reg Macbook and Macbook Pro look like Toshiba's. I think they are awful looking. Two tone was dumb of Apple. Now the fanboys will attack or say I love it so. I guess if you like Toshiba then this one is pretty.

I didn't buy it for looks though. If looks was part of the equation, then this one would be a total loser.

I think the black boarder around the screen is for better viewing more than a design element.

The 12 inch PowerBook was the epitome of laptop design. They should learn from their success.

That's my dilemma too. I'm actually thinking about buying the all silver MacBook Pro (and it's way cheap now) and the silver iPhone. Kind of last gen, but it's nicer.

The only thing that would make me buy the new MacBook is the size and technology.

They already did it in January with MacBook Air. This new black/silver direction is hideous.

Agreed. Once I saw the Air, I knew it was over as far as Apple's brilliant design goes. The only way you can tell these things are Macs is the Apple logo. Nothing else about their appearance is unique anymore. If I saw one in a room full of PCs and couldn't see the logo, I wouldn't know it was a Mac.

Although the plastic macbooks look nice, I've seen what 6 months of use does to the Blackbook finish and that certainly isn't pretty.

Industrial design isn't just about how it looks in the shop.

If you clean it, it'll look like it did the day you bought it. I've had mine since March, and it looks exactly like it did when I bought it.

If only the body is black...

I think this thread wouldn't be here if the body and lid are also black. would you agree?

Really? I would have thought the black MB looked more like a Dell or HP. To me, aluminum (not silver painted plastic) is an Apple thing, but black plastic is a PC thing.

May be it's just me then, so please don't start an argument on this.

I really like the new design, the aluminum and black looks great. Im especially excited about the LED screen and backlit keys. I'm gonna get mine soon and I cannot wait, I cannot wait to get rid of this HP

If they were at all concerned about 'viewing', then they wouldn't have installed the SUPER GLOSSY screen as the only option.

I have a friend who has one and it we were trying to use it out in the field (on a video shoot), and it was absolutely miserable to try to view.

All that gloss is meant to appeal to suckers at the store ... but it sucks in real use.

I think the new look is awesome. I think it's a great combo w/ everything. It doesn't have a "cheap" feel at all like notebooks out there.

Yes those laptops are ugly!

Black = Fine
White = Fine
ALL Aluminum = Fine

BUT NOT THIS UGLY TWO TONE!!

The MacBook Air is still alright, but I fear that they will change them :(

I like the new look more then the alu-only. This alu/black has some sort of noble touch, while alu-only looks cheap to me. Looks much better then the white MB, at least.

You people are nuts!!!!

Ugly? HUH?

I guess beauty is selective, but I think the new MB looks great, and the black screen border looks like the iPhone/iPod touch screen.

If they are so ugly, I wonder why EVERYONE who has looked at mine has commented on how nice it looks?

If i had to say ugly, I'd go for the whitebook...but only slightly so.
:D

Its not that bad and people shouldn't be surprised. Apple made their intentions clear about their design direction when they released the iMac: Make all products look like the iPhone henceforth

I was hoping for silver chicklets, but I know the reasons why they went with the black keys and bezel. The dark keys make the backlight contrast. And the black bezel is less distracting when you watch movies.

Having said that, people weren't complaining about those problems with the older Pros.

Never did I hear someone say that they had a problem with the silver bezel and keys.

To me it's more classy, like the silver iPhone. The black and white iPhones certainly look more trendy, but less elegant.

I like the aluminum much more than the old plastic. The plastic still looked good 2 years ago, but now it feels cheap and looks old next to the aluminum. Metal never goes out of style. It's the clean industrial look.

I found the old MacBook Pro design ugly, in part due to the silver/silver case and keyboard. I actually prefer the white MacBook design to the old MacBook Pro design. I can see why some might not like the new design-- It's a bit darker, more serious, and mixes black and aluminum. But then, those are the same reasons I like it.
