‪… and? That ballroom will stand long after the current sitting president has left the Oval Office.‬
‪In the military we say “salute the rank not the individual.” This not dissimilar… Apple is investing in a national landmark and the home of democracy. Apple is supporting the growth of that home, not the man current residing in it.
Far too many myopic comments in a future focused tech blog. Maybe focus on finding and supporting the individual that will replace him in three years instead of flipping out over building renovations, like THAT is the greatest threat today.
Greatest threat is already in the house.

How does a ballroom in the White House grow democracy? Seems to me the point is to allow rich people to buy more access to the president.

You seem a little… triggered. Are you proud that there is a gilded 90,000 square foot party space being built as “part of” the 50,000 foot White House, while America remains functionally broke?
Not my fight, but if there’s no taxpayer money being spent, then who cares?

America is functionally broke because of the left side — not because of Trump:

- How much money you gonna dump into welfare instead of telling people to go back to work? It’s no wonder employers are short staffed and the general working public are stressed out. The spending for this is over $1 trillion per year. It’s ridiculous.

- How’s the Social Security System doing? Bankrupting the country. All drafted up by the left. Those using the benefit are broke, and the Social Security taxes for everyone not collecting are extremely high. Together, employers and employees pay 12.4% of their income to an inefficient system that doesn’t benefit anyone.

- How’s the student loan system doing? We’re only at 1.81 trillion in debt just from this inefficient system, and counting.

- How’s the Affordable Care Act going? Only gonna add another $350 billion to the deficit over the next 10 years. If people were working and not on welfare, they’d have reasonable health insurance costs through their employer.

It blows my mind that people actually think the U.S Government can actually do something efficiently.

There isn't a single grain of truth in anything you typed. Utterly and completely disgusting.

Maybe Trump should ask his billionaire buddies to pay more taxes to fund those programs and bring the debt down.
Let him be the symbol of hope for once instead of being remembered as someone with explosive diarrhea.

How we doing that? Higher taxes means more expensive goods. You could tax all of the rich people in this country at 100% and still not balance the government’s budget.

Where do you get higher income taxes with expensive goods?
That’s what the left doesn’t understand. You think shareholders and businesses are going to just eat the cost of higher taxes? They’ll pass it down to the products they sell. Sure, let’s raise Exxon Mobile’s tax from 20% to 100%. Your $3.25/gallon gas will also go up to $5.85/gallon. Have fun with that. My 20 gallon tank goes from $65 to $117 to fill up. Basically a $52 extra tax I’d have to pay just to fill up my tank.

Sickening. Get Tim out of there. For the first time in 30 years I'm ashamed of Apple. Give Trump the little golden gift and wink wink you're getting out of tariffs but this goes TOO FAR.
There are far worse things that Cook has done. Like training up literally millions of Chinese workers to technologically supplant the US at a cost that dwarfs the Marshall Plan.

So odd to me how people support this when they, anyone they know, anyone those people know will never be invited there. The insiders, power brokers, ultra wealthy appreciate your support while they are fleecing America in your face. George Santos out of jail and Zhao founder of Binance who plead guilty to money laundering full pardon while Trump rakes in crypto money from Middle East. And the crowd roars

You realize that they currently have to resort to a tent when throwing large events at the White House and the guests have to walk through mud to it.
So what? They can go rent out the Washington Hilton like they do for the White House Correspondents Dinner every year. We don't need to be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on something so frivolous while millions of Americans struggle to make ends meet due to rising healthcare costs, inflation, and tariffs.

our US Capitol Building is quite grand
Yes, but in the press conference today, when Trump and his enablers were asked if this meant Trump could order any federal building in Washington DC to be demolished without approval, at first they dithered and claimed, in effect, that the law allows them to, but that maybe they wouldn't, apparently out of the goodness of their own hearts, and only later did the White House issue a statement saying something like maybe the law would require them to get approval to tear down federal buildings outside the White House complex. I don't think Trump could get away with demolishing the US Capitol Building, but I wouldn't be surprised if he and his enablers tried to.

They've already broken the law by falsely extending the legal definition of "White House residence", where presidents can by law do almost anything they want, to the entire White House complex, including the East and West Wings. Those wings were specifically exempt from demolition by the president, but he did it anyway.

Trump's plans for the new ballroom are to make it a massive structure that overwhelms the rest of the White House, possibly taller than the residence. The symbolism is obvious.

Apple last I knew was still American company whats wrong with this donation to something that will live on past the current president? Apple supports China? You should be all upset about that too. Playing both sides has to be hard to sell products. I see nothing wrong here. Give respect were its due like it or not. THIS IS BEING BUILT WITH DONATIONS!

I wish Trump was even just 10% of what democrats accuse him. Democracy is a failed experiment, the best countries in the world at this point are monarchies, dictatorships, or some other autocratic system. Its an illusion of choice. Both parties are complete garbage and slaves of israel. Its all fake to rile up americans to support "their team" like it a sport or something.

Pure tribalist nonsense. In reality this country is a declining empire and has been for DECADES.
I wish Trump was 10% of what MAGA worshippers believe he is. Best countries? WOW

Apple is one of several tech companies that will contribute to the construction of U.S. President Donald Trump's the White House's 90,000-square-foot ballroom
Did the White House tear down the east wing? Did the White House create plans for it? Find a way to pay for it?

No. This happened because of trump. That isn’t a judgment of whether it’s a good idea, it’s just normal to reference a project as “insert name here’s” project. And sometimes you can get slick, like .. Obama’s healthcare plan becomes Obamacare.

Don’t over think it

As much as I hate everything about this: as someone recently observed, Apple doesn’t really have a choice in the matter given its size and Trump’s willingness to torch any company that doesn’t stroke his ego. It would be one thing if the entire tech sector stood up to him en masse, but since that’s never going to happen—and in fact the opposite has happened—it would be fiscally irresponsible of Apple not to offer up these little bribes. It’s stomach-churning but I don’t see what the alternative currently is.
