Apple has announced that it will soon offer the iPhone SE in 32GB and 128GB storage capacities for $399 and $499 respectively.

iPhone SE was previously available in 16GB and 64GB storage capacities for $399 and $449 respectively. The 64GB model was initially $499, but it received a price cut following the iPhone 7 launch. The 4-inch smartphone will remain available in four colors: Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Gray.

Apple said the new iPhone SE models, which have the same tech specs, will be available online and in stores on Friday, March 24.

These are not updates.

What is going on with this company?
My guess is that they want to put the SE on the same update cycle as the rest of the lineup. We may see 3 new iPhones in September.

No one should have expected big changes from a "press release" launch.

There was meant to be a new 10.5" iPad
And maybe there will be. The rumor is that production has been delayed because of display yield issues. No need to hold up the release of the more minor updates for that.

Assuming there will be an April event, today's grab bag actually makes me a bit more hopeful for that one. The kind of stuff we're seeing here would be exactly what they might be using to pad out a mediocre presentation. Launching it via a simple press release instead may mean they have something more substantial in store for the actual event.

(Again, assuming there will be an event, of course...)

Too bad the iPhone SE 128gb will come shipped on iOS 10.3 and won't be jailbreakable.

iOS the last jailbreakable version on the iPhone SE. I have an iPhone SE 64gb on iOS 10.2 and can jailbreak it.

Applause to Apple for getting rid of the 16GB model. Although my 64GB SE is my personal sweet spot for the amount of memory I need.

It seems Apple wants us to constantly upgrade from our sweet spot to their up sell sweet spot... because then you are likely to buy the model above!

64GB sounds like a good memory size for this kind of phone.

Nah, there wasn't. It was well-known that today would be a press release-only event, and the 10.5-inch was never going to be released without a keynote. 10.5" is coming later in the year (not sure how late.)

Up until a few days ago we didn't know it was going to be a press only announcement
