These are not updates.

What is going on with this company?

I think the issue here is people's use of the term "update." This is more of a quiet refresh, which Apple usually does in spring time for various products. Refreshes that don't warrant a big reveal or keynote.

It's clear, especially from the iPad refresh, that Apple is saving all the goodies (better CPU, better screen, etc) for the Pro lines, and establishing these products today as the 'lesser' lines.

I think my 64g gold SE jailbroken just increased in value :D

499 for 128 really apple?

Can't just replace 64 with 128 a year later? Considering no other spec bumps? And a 128 only mini4, that's appealing to mini users ?

You nailed it yesterday with your 32/128GB prediction. I guessed 128GB. 32GB makes complete sense to rid the paltry 16GB model.

This is disappointing the front facing camera only 1.2 megapixels....
Apple considers the iPhone SE as a low-end, entry, cheaper model. And that's shocking to say the least, because the SE has rock-solid looking aesthetics, while the iPhone 6 and 7 look like sportswear items or Samsung stuff. If you show the SE and the 7 to somebody who never saw an iPhone and ask which is the luxury model and which one is the sports/teen model, people would agree the SE is the luxury, and the 7 for teens.

I'm in the market for a new iPhone. It's going to be the 128GB SE, because paying a premium price for the 7 poor aesthetics which I'm already bored of, doesn't make sense to me.

However, if the iPhone SE did have a high-end model with 7 specs, I'd be willing to pay the 7 price for a high-end SE.

I find it amusing to read all these "disappointed" comments.

For years, folks want more storage. We get a high storage on SE and iPad mini... complaints. People want the cost of iPad to be lower for new consumers... it happens... complaints about the lack of features... People are tired of iPads... complaints about not seeing a 10.5 iPad released today (on a press release update - no less). It will still happen.

I understand the frustration about the macs, I agree, but those will be announced in a keynote or you will all complain about Apple "ignoring the mac line" and reserving keynotes for iOS devices.

I realize this is a generalization of many different people's views, but only on this site, which I have been watching for over 6 years, would people complain about a silent refresh where you get more for a similar or same amount of money

smh

128 SE is a win by the end of the day especially for people who have always wanted or even required 128

But price increase again is .. disappointing. After hitting 449 not long ago

But more decisions is better. And dropping 16 is a win too. Period

I was expecting a faster processor as well as a storage bump.

Like all iPhones, an Upgrade to the innards to a more modern spec after 12 months was expected.
A memory bump is only just that, a minimal effort, something that should have been there in the first place.

Yes, they are updates. Small updates not part of a keynote. And this was exactly what was rumored for weeks. Why are you surprised and disgusted?

Exactly. These are updates, not new products. This is what buyers want – incremental updates between big releases.

This sux, because this means that there will be no updates to the SE... :(

Why would you make this specious leap in logic? I would expect Apple to potentially upgrade the SE next year to match the 7 specs when it drops down to the number 2 spot. That's a relatively minor upgrade that keeps an excellent entry level phone relevant. They might also introduce a 4"-sized iPhone 8, and let the SE fall gracefully off the map as an entry level phone, which the iPhone 8 would eventually replace as it depreciates.

It's not a win for making the iPhone more affordable. They really should have left the 16GB if they were going to keep the price the same, not to mention raising it, and charged $299 for it, maybe only offering it one or two colors.

I'm waiting for the SE to get the next gen processor then I will seriously consider migrating back to its form factor from my current 6S. I really liked the squared edges of my 4S and 5S. I always feel like I'm going to drop my 6S.

I would have loved a 128GB option at launch (and would have happily paid the extra), but I don't think I'll be upgrading just for the extra 64GB now. I am glad this exists for new purchasers though.

Even 32GB is usable if you don't require a lot of storage - I always felt 16GB was too little unless you were literally only using the iPhone SE as a barely-more-than-a-'feature'/'dumb'phone, for calls and messages and minimal photos (which is fine if that's you!).

It's literally within spitting distance of the 6th Gen iPod touch.

$400 for 128GB for the A8-based 6th Gen touch, $500 for the A9-based SE.

I hate to say it, but I might just spend the extra $100 and go for the faster processor, better camera, and potential cellular capability. Makes it infinitely more useful. Still though, I will always have a fondness for the iPod touch; the first computer since the invention of the personal computer to completely wow me. (Albeit in 2008 when open WiFi networks were more plentiful and the iPhone was only on one cellular network.)

I have said that's Apple's goal for some time now -- to get the SE down low enough in price that it makes a suitable replacement for the iPod Touch. I'm stunned actually that Apple still offers a 16GB iPod, as well as four storage options at all. They really should have used this opportunity to drop two of the models, if only to simplify their product offerings, and add greater value to the iPod line while increasing prices slightly. If someone wants an iPod, it's hard for me to imagine they are going to opt for a 16GB model, when the 32GB model is only $50 more. If anything, someone buying an iPod is going to want the maximum storage available. If they're going to offer 16GB, they should do it in the SE format, for $249-299.

And by the way, it's not just a better processor, it's better everything, including the ability to shoot 4K video. I think the only problem with this is that whenever I remove the SIM from my SE, it constantly complains about not having one, and it cannot be setup without one. Apple would have to address this.

Well now all those 5S holdouts who said they wanted more memory on the SE can jump in. Great news for the SE.

I wish they added the 2nd gen touch ID sensor. Would have gotten a sale from me.
