There was meant to be a new 10.5" iPad

No there wasn't.

You read rumours, got excited and are now disappointed. A good life lesson I guess.

More memory is not an update. It may be a better value now, but it's not an update, which would involve some new technology (new to the SE).

"Define Update" on Google, 1st thing you see on the results page:

"make (something) more modern or up to date".

Sounds like the SE has been updated to me, by becoming more up to date storage wise.

I'm not disappointed in this haa. I'm disappointed that no new macs were announced...
I couldn't care less about an iPad anymore, unless they release one running macOS.
So yeahno I'm not disappointed about no 10.5" iPad yet

I think my 64g gold SE jailbroken just increased in value :D

499 for 128 really apple?

Can't just replace 64 with 128 a year later? Considering no other spec bumps? And a 128 only mini4, that's appealing to mini users ?
I really have no clue why apple has stuck the mini with 128gb, maybe 32 or 64 but 128 that's too much for a budget focused device (imo, even though I used to like the mini's)

So mind boggling. I would love to have been a fly on the wall during that corporate meeting

Some internal troll "people have been demanding updates to mini, 64 ceiling is making people go bonkers we need 128 and 128 alone!"

"The answer is yes! That will be rather effortless. Meeting dismissed"

Tim Cook's statement of today,
'Focusing on the storage flash where iOS and apps reside, and the product RED expanded to iPhones, has been an area of 'intense interest'

That would get a press event.

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
‘The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’
‘The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

As part of a raft of new products and updates to hit its online store this morning, Apple has also announced it is doubling the available capacities of the iPhone SE.

The company's smallest profile handset will soon be available in 32GB and 128GB models, replacing the current 16GB and 64GB models, with prices starting at $399.

The new capacity handsets will be available beginning Friday, according to Apple's press release.

Considering 64 was 449 I'm sure being end of life you can find deals on it for same price as a new 32 SE

Once the new iPhone is out, I'm sure Apple will slash the prices of the SE. But for effectively the same phone with only a memory bump, Apple should have stuck with the same price point as the 16/64.

Finally 128 GB. We 4" phone users were stuck at 64 GB storage max for the last 7 years. I really hope 256 won't take that long.

No, 128GB is $499 64GB was $449. A $50 increase.

I find this disappointing. I called it that Apple was increasing the storage size so they could keep the prices the same or raise them, and they did both. What's really unfortunate is that they didn't keep the 16GB option, and offer a $299 entry-level SE in maybe just one or two colors. Maybe they're saving that for next year. Still it's a lost opportunity to expand the user base to lower income customers, or even expand family plans.

If Apple had offered 128GB last year when I bought my SE, I would have paid $599 for it, instead of the $499 I ended up paying for 64GB. I would have happily upgraded to a new SE with 128GB even though I don't really have a need for it, except there's absolutely no other improvements. If they had even upgraded the front facing camera, or added another color, like black.
