There was meant to be a new 10.5" iPad
If it was meant to be today, it would have been announced.

It seems Apple wants us to constantly upgrade from our sweet spot to their up sell sweet spot... because then you are likely to buy the model above!

64GB sounds like a good memory size for this kind of phone.
64GB is the storage size. It is not device memory.

A 10.5" iPad would require an event to show it off. There's still a chance that the MB update will include new features warranting an announcement, in which case they could introduce the new iPad size along side it. However, it would seem due to the paucity of rumors, that the MB will not be getting much more than a spec bump -- so no event.

I keep getting all these smartass responses it's funny how stupid all you people think I am

And I'm certain that person meant storage, there's no such thing as a phone with 64gb memory let alone 16....?

I didn't state nor imply that you were stupid. You extrapolated your own projected context from my post. If you hadn't done that, you wouldn't feel so defensive and agitated with me for saying something I didn't say.

And as for my reply to the other forum member, many here do use that very terminology. And many do incorrectly assign memory with device storage ability. If that was the case with the member I replied to, I cleared up the confusion. I did not denigrate the forum member in any way.

Amazing what can happen when one assumes things he or she shouldn't.

My iPhone SE already stutters with some scrolling, and the 1.2MP front camera is a joke for 2017. I love the SE, but this update is going to suck big time in the next few months as we get a new iPhone 8 and the SE stays outdated for another year.

I have said that's Apple's goal for some time now -- to get the SE down low enough in price that it makes a suitable replacement for the iPod Touch. I'm stunned actually that Apple still offers a 16GB iPod, as well as four storage options at all. They really should have used this opportunity to drop two of the models, if only to simplify their product offerings, and add greater value to the iPod line while increasing prices slightly. If someone wants an iPod, it's hard for me to imagine they are going to opt for a 16GB model, when the 32GB model is only $50 more. If anything, someone buying an iPod is going to want the maximum storage available. If they're going to offer 16GB, they should do it in the SE format, for $249-299.

And by the way, it's not just a better processor, it's better everything, including the ability to shoot 4K video. I think the only problem with this is that whenever I remove the SIM from my SE, it constantly complains about not having one, and it cannot be setup without one. Apple would have to address this.

If you buy the SIM-free model and then shove in any generic SIM for the any of the other carriers, it will stop barking at you and just say "No Service" at the top instead of either "iPod" or "::insert name of carrier here::".

But yeah, maintaining a 4" iPhone, giving it the same, if not better featureset, and then pricing it within spitting distance of the current iPod touch is how you finally replace the iPod touch. I have a sentimental attachment to it, but from a functional standpoint, I have no problem with that product being replaced by a better one that does more for the same cost. $400 is ridiculous for a 128GB wifi only iPhone with a two and a half year old CPU, but $500 is amazing for a 128GB iPhone with a one and a half year old CPU.

A9 is 5 months shy of 2 years old. Definitely not 2.5 years

What wait device are you referring to 128 wifi for 400?

Maybe they will upgrade it in the fall.

This is disappointing the front facing camera only 1.2 megapixels....

They don't want to actually spend money while updating it, they just want to make sure they don't skimp too much going forward. They have been working on a refreshed 4.0" iPhone body for a while now (it was rumored before the SE launch), so next spring the iPhone 6 rounded body should be released in a 4.0" form factor.

I agree though 1.2 mp sucks

I've never seen my SE stutter while scrolling. You likely have a defective one, and should take it in for service.

As for the front facing camera, I'd argue it's only a joke depending on what you need it to do. I use mine for FaceTime and that's about it. 1.2mp is just fine for that, especially over cellular. Anything else and its the 12mp camera on the rear. Even the iPhone 7 only has a 7mp camera, so I'm gonna use the rear camera on it too if the picture quality actually matters.

Any idea when we're expecting carriers to receive their new phones to sell? I need to get off my parents' family plan and onto my own but Sprint and T-Mobile still only list the 16GB and 64GB models on their respective websites.

No I don't have a defective phone, this is the story of iOS, it lags, stutters, etc as hardware gets old period. I have owned iPhones for 10 years since version 1, this is how it works. And front facing camera is used A LOT for selfies, I would argue it's a more popular use case than facetime, having 1.2mp is really inadequate for 2017.

Why is anyone surprised though, Apple has been cheapening out and delaying stuff as much as they can. Apple was the last of the top manufacturers to ship smartphones with 16GB storage, they kept 16GB as long as they could for profits at the expense of user experience. They are doing the same with stuff like the front facing camera.

That is how it works in YOUR experience. I won't presume to tell you that you didn't experience what you experienced, but your experience is NOT universal.

I've never had any of my iPhones lag. My current, 64GB SE, performs as smoothly as the day I first received it. Battery life is better than any previous iPhone I've owned... 90% remaining after a typical day of use.

But having said that, I agree with your assessment as to what Apple is currently doing. They're simply reaping the benefits of having established a good reputation. There is no need to push the envelope as long as customers continue to buy their product in record numbers. Yep, their milking their golden cow. They'll continue to do so until customers are no longer satisfied with what they are producing.

There is a sort of "momentum" to a reputation. People perceive a company based in their reputation long after they have stopped earning that reputation. It is my opinion that this reputation momentum is still in effect though starting to slow down.

If your phone is not defective, or in need of a software restore, then I must have lucked out and gotten a special model. I've never experienced a lad, or stutter. The SE is not like other iPhones in that it was released with the same technology as the flagship phone a year and a half ago, technology that is not much different than what the 7 offers. It will wear much better than older phones which had processors that tended to lag behind their software ambitions. There's not a huge difference between the iOS 9 & iOS 10 in terms of feature demands.

If you take a lot of selfies, and high quality selfies are an important feature to you, all I can say is you had no business buying an SE. As for 16GB phones, again, there's nothing wrong with a 16GB depending on how someone uses it. It's not surprising Apple is trying to keep their profits high -- and it's not just from continuing to offer 16GB chips in their products even as the rest of the industry moves past them -- ALL of Apple's products have incredibly high margins. Blaming the SE and 16GB products as examples of Apple's greed over customer satisfaction, is hypocritical assuming you believe Apple's premium products are otherwise acceptable. The reality is, both of those products address underserved areas of Apple's market, without sacrificing profit margins, making affordable entry level devices, which may serve the customer who buys them perfectly well. How many other phone manufacturers even make a full featured smartphone which operates more or less on par with more premium products, the size of the SE? Other companies aren't even serving that market at any price. As a long time Apple customer, the SE is the perfect phone for me. For the price, I couldn't be happier. Had Apple priced it more like the 5c, I might be nitpicking it the same way you are. But this is the least greedy move I've seen Apple make in a long time. Very happy customer here, and expect the SE to be a workhorse for far longer than my previously purchased new Premium iPhones.
