Apple gives lots of money to charity. And the way they get that money is by making money. If they gave all their money to charity, they would have nothing more to give.
On the other hand. They give money to charity because they want to make even more money. (Apple sheep)

I Am Legend was the last Smith film I remember liking. I didn't even make it far enough into Aladdin to see his genie performance.
Completely ruined the ending in that version of the movie.

what does “apple sheep” mean?

Does everyone who gives money to charity have ulterior motives, or just people and businesses you don’t like?

Have never seen Will Smith in a really serious role (the closest one being I, Robot. But I do think it's too early to judge him. The guy's been acting for years. Cut him some slack.

I wondered why didn't cast Denzel when this was the same team he worked with in Equalizer.
Ugh. I, Robot was another terrible movie. Forgot about how that ruined Asimov’s stories for me.

I was going to say that. I am pretty sure that anyone who has read the novella can't stand the ending of that movie.
Stephen King's The Mist, on the other hand...

Well, let's be fair; I, Robot should've never been a movie. You can try with the Caves of Steel, but I, Robot is too disjointed, and the short stories therein are way too "broad" in scope.

Good move. i will watch any action movie with Will Smith, no matter the plot.

When they say 'biggest festival acquisition in industry history' – then you look at who made it – I can't help thinking there are some people in Hollywood chucking wildly at this. $120 million just for the rights? Is that before production costs, marketing and distribution (for the cinema release)? Feels like the rich guy at the auction flashing his cash and buying a fake.

Excellent, thats the type of mindless lack of discernment that movie producers love.

Okay cool, but this still isn’t enough to get me to buy a new $2k OLED TV because my current one doesn’t have AppleTV+, nor does it convince me to buy a streaming box that has AppleTV+ on it. The net result for me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, is just asking this question even louder:

Why didn’t you instead spend $120m on creating a new AppleTV so that we’d have a good reason to pay for both AppleTV+ and Apple Arcade subscriptions?

It's cheaper to fund films than to buy them on the circuit, apparently. That's a lot of money for a film...unless they had to CGI will smith a la gemini man.

There are Movies on Apple+?
I thought only shows and some documentaries
The Banker is fabulous. Greyhound is coming out next week. Elephant Queen is one of the best nature movies I’ve seen. There’s a Bill Murray comedy coming out soon.

Another swing. Huge miss. Apple just can’t buy a hit up there. It might be time to just cancel this whole mess. Last in their division. Hitless for the season. They’re giving away tickets and no one is showing up. Can’t blame them.
Apple is doing much better than Quibi and HBO Max and CBS all access and Peacock. They can be middle of the pack and succeed

So much money. This money could have been given to a charity instead. I’m not liking movie/TV Apple.
Apple can afford to be charitable by being profitable. This is simply an investment in future profits. Studios and all their employees earn on these investments. And in a COVID environment, were the film industry’s and cinemas’ s future is as in Flux as any business, this protects jobs for an industry as well. The consumer ultimately pays the money to Apple to see the film, or to the Theater chain. This is a particularly wise film choice by Apple to provide to its subscribers in today’s environment - it totally fits the inclusive nature and corporate position of Apple.

Will smith is a comedy actor who is obsessed with being taken seriously. I just know the subject matter will be treated like a history lesson with zero entertainment factor. It'll be django unchained without the humour or skill guaranteed.

I would love to see will smith take part in a tropic thunder type story but this, no thanks.
