Apple Drops Device Trade-In Prices in the U.S.

I can't fathom why anyone would trade in. stuffs always double on eBay
Unfortunately that’s not true for the 11 when I was looking to sell. Putting aside the sketchiness of selling on eBay with scam buyers, Swappa was only offering $60* more than the $340 trade in at Apple for the best condition used phones.

And with Apple, they paid me sales tax when they bought back… not so with eBay or Swappa. Plus you have fees with eBay and Swappa.

I sold my 11 for $360 total to Apple, with no headache, no shadiness, no waiting for payments, no getting ripped off by shady buyers.

Total fair deal.

What they should be dropping is the price of the 2020 SE.
Yeah that, and the series 3 Apple Watch. What are they thinking selling the same watch for two years at the same price. Just protecting the bottom line it seems like, and/or the appearance of luxury. It sure isn’t worth $200. If they had put in a new chip with the series 3 the same as SE? Totally worth $200.

Got in just in time I guess!

Traded in my iPhone 12 Pro for an iPhone 13 Pro to take advantage of T-Mobile’s promotion just before it expired.

$640 + $500 = $1150

iPhone 13 Pro 512GB, $1139 w/ Military Pricing & no sales tax (DE). Trade in was iPhone 12 Pro 256GB.

Got a refund for my unused 1Y of Apple Care to soften the Apple Care blow on the replacement.

I think I made out alright ??

Another rumor:

If you go to an Apple Store in SF, they probably have 100 used iPhone 11 ready, in good condition.

If you really want your iPhone 11 repaired, it’s $199 ??:

And I think it takes 7 days or so. Maybe 14 days? It depends on how many people there are.

If you’re not that uptight about it, maybe they just give you a refurbished phone later that day.

The only advantage I can see for Apple trade-in is its convenience & rapidity, otherwise there are other places with much better offers.
They’re also good for trading in prepaid / smaller carrier locked devices. A lot of the other companies don’t accept those (or massively reduce what they’ll pay for them). Apple pays the same regardless of original carrier / carrier lock status.

Yep. I personally think Apple trade in is a better value as well as long as you intend on use it for an Apple purchase.

eBay/Swappa may offer a better price, but those platforms have their own fees (such as PayPal). Ideally, it would be $100 or so less than eBay listing you get to your pocket. That is without taking into the headaches if there is some scam on it.

Apple trade in at a store is the best choice.

Shows you how much Apple thinks their worth and the massive profit they make on new devices, the watch trade in prices for example an absolute bloody joke.

It’s sort of a luxurious illusion to give Apple an iPhone, grab lunch, and then receive your iPhone.

Even battery repairs on my car can take a few days.

Seems this would entice those considering a trade in to now wait it out.
Not seeing Apple's angle here.

Seems a long shot though that this could be because of low inventory. Still, interesting to drop the prices ~ $100. I've traded in and resold old iPhones about 50/50. I like to trade in older ones, thinking they will be recycled and turned into something new. Reduce, reuse, recycle... (A friend made the joke that works with marriages too. Yeah, well...)

Wow, my 6S works fine for me, worth $30. New iPhone, $700...Not enticing
Yeah it's for the convenience rather than the cash ay. I figure most people who are spending $2000 on a phone every year without blinking don't really care whether they get $30 (trade-in) or ebay prices for their old phone.

Personally? I got a phone in 2014 and one in 2021... 6-7 years between models so I just kept the old one as a spare (didn't need the token amount of money I'd get from a trade-in).

I took my employer’s Mac to a Genius Bar for repairs. It took 2 hours to get the estimate, and then 7 or 8 days before it was finished for me to pick up. He was a CEO.

For the "never trade it in" crowd, a little short sighted if you care about time and annoyance.

A 12 Pro Max sells used for ~$900. If trading a 12 Pro Max at the previous $790 also gets you $790 off sales tax.

$1100 - 13 Pro Max
$95 - Sales tax (8.7%)
-$900 - Used Sale
_______________
$295

$1100 - 13 Pro Max
$27 - Sales tax (8.7%)
-$790 - Trade in
_______________
$337

For me, the ease is (was) worth $42.
