Just rung Apple. I ordered the Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and the USB-C to A adapter on pre-order day when I ordered the 15" MBP. Gave both my order numbers and they've refunded me the difference with no quibble, issues or dramas. I'd already received the USB-C to A and the Thunderbolt 2 is currently being shipped. All I need now is the new MacBook Pro to arrive. Praying for a delivery on 16th! (i'm in Australia - just incase you couldn't tell from my username :) I'd budgeted to buy both these adapters - but happy with the cost saving so I can now put that money to the HDMI adapter as well sooner rather than later. I completely agree that the dongle prices were excessive so the reduction in price is very welcomed.

My wallet is speaking a bit louder than that.

Mine too. Finally made the decision after pre ordering 15" RMBP right after lame 4ss keynote and after learning more daily about how this machine just isn't what it should be, I finally pulled the trigger and cancelled my order. More for the people that want them I guess

At this point my trusty Early 2011 non retina MBP will have to live on for the unforeseen future. Just saved a ton of coin... ($3499.00) Putting it on diet as I Plan to yank CD/DVD drive this weekend as I never use it.

Shiny.... New...

Pretty bummed with  as of late. Wonder how many other people who have pre ordered have since cancelled their orders.

Swap the 2011 MBP for a 2012 model if you can; USB 3.0 is a huge boost, plus the GPU in the 15" is much better.

Agreed! If they claim USB C is the future, then support it on all Apple devices. We'll probably see it on an iPhone when "USB D" is about to be released. :D
Then there will be another group (or the same) complaining that they need an adapter to use their existing lightning docks, cables, etc. :D

I think the problem here is that they actually changed to the lightning port to early and now that everything else is using USB-C they don't want another backlash from iPhone customers (who are a much larger base of people) by switching the connector again.

You're probably right, but I think that Apple should just bite the bullet on this one. I guess next year's 10th Anniversary iPhone might provide them with a good excuse: all-new design, and all that jazz.

I'd wager Apple including a lightning to usb-c cable in the box. The real reason for Apple to keep the lightning cable is they profit off that, they don't profit off the usb-c port.

Lightning on ios devices was never about the licensing profits, but about maintaining control over the end user experience. By getting to dictate the spec of the Lightning standard, Apple gets more leeway to modify it to their needs as they deem fit, rather than having to adhere to some publicly declared standard.

Price drops all round !!

ok, whats Apple going on ? It's very un-Apple like. It highly unusually for Apple to price drop in one week, not to mention the same day. for more than one item..

Did Tim get out on the other side of the bed?

If un-heard of only from Apple because they never do this tye of thing in one hit.... maybie over time and defiantly not on allot of stuff....

This is almost like a sale..

Still.. they profit off of it. You can say they can control the end user experience, but in the end... it's a revenue stream for them.

One thing I do like for Apple is any orders pending will also take the drop. can't say that about any other company.

The profit from the licensing of the Lightning standard is practically a rounding error on their balance sheet, and also used to offset the cost of providing the certification and raw materials for the manufacturing of said parts.

Perhaps Apple does profit off the Lightning port some. I would argue that it still isn't the primary motivator for sticking with that for the iPhone and iPad.
