Edit:

Just to say that this is the only one I've seen which is not a dual one....

We just need some micro sized ones, but that may be more difficult with the size of the usb c connector.
I like this option personally.

It's a little confusing on the product page, but the non-USBC end is actually a USB-A port and can fit right in the regular USB port. Quite ingenious actually.

"We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition."

NOW you recognize it? You didn't understand this during the design and development of the machine?
The famous reality distortion field (RDF) at Apple is obviously still very active.

All of their stupid adapters should come bundled. It's not our fault that their computers lack today's nessary IO ports. Maybe next year we can look forward to laptops without charging cables too. Is Tim Cook working for Microsoft or Apple?
When you bought a Samsung ultrabook, it would come with the ethernet adapter.

Lightning on ios devices was never about the licensing profits, but about maintaining control over the end user experience. By getting to dictate the spec of the Lightning standard, Apple gets more leeway to modify it to their needs as they deem fit, rather than having to adhere to some publicly declared standard.

Thats the party line. Cha Ching!

I like these 2 options personally.

It's a little confusing on the product page, but on both of these the non-USBC end is actually a USB-A port and can fit right in the regular USB port. Quite ingenious actually.

Yeah, most of the dual ones are ugly as sin though!

My preference is for it to be as small as possible, reduces the likelyhood of me knocking it and breaking it....but the manufacturers don't seem to be able/bothered doing this for type c yet.

And everyone forgets the price drop of the original iPhone and the $100 credit that was given to early adopters...

Apple should've never priced these adapters so high, but at least they're owning up and fixing it.

The notebook prices will come down just like they did on the Retina iMacs and MacBooks.

Hey, I get it. Mac's are more expensive than other machines. But here's the deal: you can choose to buy them, or choose not to. Everyone gets that you think it's over priced or that they are pieces of crap; you don't need to keep banging that tired drum. I choose to buy a nice machine and pay the premium even though there are other options. I don' t even mind the change over of ports- i've been through the loss of the floppy, the 3.5", and the DVD drive. This is no different. Apple being Apple. I'll take 4 multi-use ports over 6 specialty ports any day...even if it means I need to buy a few dongles to get me through the transition. I appreciate the price drop.

I've had enough at this point.
I just found a great deal on a new 13" MacBook with the optical drive, which they sold until last week. I'll stick an ssd in that. I'm not a power user, so it should be sufficient for a fraction of the price.

To make it easier for customers who purchased a new MacBook Pro to make the transition to USB-C, Apple has dropped the prices on all of its USB-C adapters by $6 to $20.

The simple USB-C to USB Adapter, formerly priced at $19, is now $9, while the more expensive USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, formerly $49, is now available for $29. Even Apple's newly released Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter has seen a price drop from $49 to $29.

A full list of prices on the adapters in the United States is below:

- USB-C to USB Adapter - Was $19, now $9
- Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Was $49, now $29
- USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Was $69, now $49
- USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter - Was $69, now $49
- USB-C to Lightning Cable (1m) - Was $25, now $19
- USB-C to Lightning Cable (2m) - Was $35, now $29

Apple is also dropping the prices on all third-party USB-C peripherals available from Apple, com and Apple retail stores. USB-C accessories will be discounted by about 25 percent, with some accessories, such as SanDisk's USB-C SD card reader, seeing a steeper $20 discount, dropping the price from $49 to $29.

Apple's price cut on USB-C adapters and accessories may assuage customers who have been dissatisfied with the high price of the MacBook Pro coupled with the need to buy a wide range of adapters to use the new notebook with older peripherals. Apple's lower prices also make its adapters more competitive with the wide range of third-party adapters available on the market. Apple explained the pricing cut in a statement that was given to The Verge:Apple did not mention a solution for customers who have already purchased adapters to use alongside their new MacBook Pros, but recent purchases can still be returned to the Apple Store and repurchased at the new lower price.

Update: According to MacRumors reader Philip, Apple will refund the price difference for customers who have already purchased adapters for their MacBook Pros. Customers who still have orders pending will also automatically see a price drop.

It is absurd. Even with reduced prices it is a cost of 100 dollar on dongles extra still, besides the too high price of the macbook pro. And what about the environment? Trashing old cables? Apple has become a fashion design product company going after high profits.

Why are some people hailing this as a great move?
It's like Tesla announcing their car Air fresheners are now only $10.

I don't care if the dongle is $10 cheaper. Apple needs to reduce their laptop pricing at least 25%

Aye aye to that. Doesn't make any sense, people who already bought a £1700 machine knew what they were in for... it's about those who didn't bite the bullet. Including it for free would be nice for starters.

The computers look good when displayed in the Apple Store and in advertising because they don't have any holes for ports and don't have any dongles plugged into them . So they appeal to Jony Ive's sense of elegant design.
It's only when you buy one and need to use it in the real world, interfacing to the gear you have, that Jony's sleek lightweight machine is encumbered with dongles and the like, because having a star designer in control of everything seems to mean function now comes second to form. Do the engineers get a look in?

The last time I bought a Mac laptop (in 2010), it cost me $2,499 for the baseline 15". The baseline 15" MBP is now $2,399. I honestly have no idea why everyone is complaining about the prices. From what I can tell, they have gone down!

That's ok, 15 years ago I've bought compaq presario with celeron 800, 10GB hdd and 128MB ram for about 2000$. Today it's successor costs less than 400$. If you bought a mac that's 5 years old in 2010 for everyday use, and change it today for one that was manufactured in 2010, you would probably see a huge gap in performance. Today changing the 5 years old for the new one for everyday use (browser, photos, music), gap would be noticeable but not as obvious. Don't forget, that in Europe we are paying much more for electronic devices than in USA. For example MBP 15" with ati 460 that costs 2899$, you have to pay 3700$ in Poland or in Germany. I really like apple, but I'm not insane to pay that much for something, that I can have for about half that price. Just maybe not so "amazing", but fine for everyday use.

Really, Apple, we are going to Spend 3000$ because gas prices are cheaper now to go the Apple Store. Really. What world do these idiots live in.

Here's my question: does anyone own anything that uses USB-C natively? I don't. For me, that's a big part of the frustration. I use a lot of USB A things -- my mouse, mainly, but I'm constantly passing off files via thumb drives or external drives to people at work - we leave thumb drives with leave-behinds on them for clients nearly every day. I have a lot of things that rely on USB-A ports -- charging bricks, portable batteries, etc. Put simply, USB-A is a big part of what I do with a computer right now. I have nothing else with a USB-C port on it and nothing to plug into such a port should I have one.

Apple thinks USB-C is gonna be big, I get it. It probably is. There's a lot of advantages there. But any time they've made this sort of jump -- removing optical drives, removing floppy drives, etc -- there's been a clear better option that people were already using. I didn't know the last time that I had even used a CD when they got rid of the optical drive. I get that Apple thinks it's the future, but it's not the present AT ALL.
