Im glad my first gen dual 1.8Ghz (8 RAM slots) with the 9800Pro in it, is still a hot item. The graphics card alone is reason enough to not upgrade to even a 2.5 because the best card i can get is a shiiiiity 9650 (even with 256MB its benchmarks suck against my 128MB 9800) unless i want to shell out $500 for the BIG boiy graphics, id rather get an x800XT

something to keep in mind... just because its not listed online doesn't mean its no longer sold. although usually that's on the other end

for example, there is an "ultimate" model of the Mac Mini in the stores with a superdrive, 512 megs of ram, and the wireless upgrade (APX and BT) that's not listed online, or even on the little arcrylic displays in the store

there are also "ultimate" iMacs, they used to be more of an upgrade with double ram (to 512), BT and a wireless KB and Mouse, but now its just $100 more than the top of the line 17" and 20" to add the wireless desktop

I hope the new mini is upped to a CoreGraphics compatable card with 64MB of RAM and 512MB standard. That's all the update that would really matter. I don't think going from 1.25/1.42 to 1.42/1.5 or whatever is really going to make any difference.

The nicest upgrade (other than the graphics card) would be if it came with some RAM soddered to the board and one free expansion slot that was easier to access.

Interesting move. Perhaps Apple realized the iMac line is approaching the low-end PM and wanted to get rid of it for better product differentiation. Or they have something else in store....

Or more likely, everyone was just buying the more powerful iMac and sales of the less powerful 'Power'Mac had dried up.

Something has to be done with the iBook. I can't believe they are going to hold out for the Intel switch before we see new notebooks so it must be due at least one more PowerPC refresh, and about now at that.

I hope so anyway - I've a toshiba laptop to replace and I'm holding out for a new iBook to replace it as a second machine for pure mobile computing. I was hoping we'd see something similar to a Vaio T2 with 10.6" screen from Apple this year but it seems unlikely now.

I wonder also, now that there's an intel switch on the cards, if the OQO people who are mostly ex-Apple designers from the G4 Titantium days would furnish Apple with a perfect sub-notebook. That would be perfect for me if it ran OSX.

same here, this is my machine at work, first rev. THIS IS THE REASON APPLE SWITCHED TO INTEL, MY MACHINE WAS FIRST REV. 1.8GHZ G5 - to keep selling this machine 2+ years later is retarded.

SOunds good, I am sure the Rev B mini will be slightly re-designed internally to make it more user customizable, maybe they will make airport an easy install and as you said solder 256 into the motherboard leaving an empty slot so we can put 1.25gb in the little critter?!!!

Can anyone say 1.6 and 1.8 ghz G5 mac mini's? I think we will see an update to mac mini's and ibooks. The high end mac mini will sort of take the place of the 1.8 Ghz powermac single G5. Except for the upgradability. I think the single G5 powermac was hardly being bought by the public, it was mostly for educational facilities. The average consumer wouldn't think twice about buying the imac over the single G5 powermac. They are about the same price and the imac comes with a 20" display and airport extreme, etc. They should have made the superdrive standard by now. And for ibooks, maybe a slimmer sexier version with a speed bump. I don't think apple should care at this point about having the ibooks as fast as the pwoerbooks, because they might as well get as fast of processors out of the G4/ G5 before switching to intel. The professional user doesn't want to buy a mac right now unless it is a must have because of the switch to intel. Not too many people are going to buy powerbooks right now, so why not temporarly have the ibook as fast as the powerbook. If apple can find a way to get awsome battery life and make the ibook lighter, then it will sell better. I really don't see how apple can do much with its line of portables until they switch to intel. I can't believe it is going to take an entire year until the first intel based mac comes out. I know the software is the main issue, but apple is going to lose a lot of money over this year.

G5 Mini??

Well, we HAVE been bitching about the single 1.8 for a few months now.

When i was in college I went from a B&W g3 to a 450 G4, to a 733 G4 to a dual 1Ghz g4 to my current Dual 1.8 G5. I am SO glad apple hasnt made my first gen G5 obsolete (not so glad that i wouldnt want a 3.0) because now that I graduated I cant really get the best prices on BTO machines, cuz I got ways of getting apple employee discounts but they only let you purchase certain non customizable setups....

the fact my 1.8Ghz G5 can still flex its muscle along with the 2.7, is kinda *** because its what, 2 years old now? Im used to switching macs every year, (at a profit, thats eBay for you....)

mod edit - going around the profanity filter will get you kicked out - you've now been warned

I would love a g5 mini, but i would bet money on NO. Probably just built in bluetooth and airport. Faster processor of course.

Lowerend Mac Mini should be speedbumped to 1.5 GHZ G4

The eMac uses the 1.42 GHZ G4 already , so why risk supply problems using the same chip ? The Powerbook will probably be speedbumped to a 1.8 GHZ G4 by October. Not everyone can afford to buy a Powerbook , so I would expect a smaller volume of Powerbook sales compared to the rest of the Apple productline. If the iBook and lowend Mac Mini were speedbumped to 1.5 GHZ G4's in July , I suspect that Apple could immediately switch making Powerbooks with 1.67 and 1.8 GHZ G4's. I suspect Apple could produce a sufficient number of 1.67 and 1.8 GHZ G4 Powerbooks by the end of September to meet demand. A highend Mac Mini could either have a 1.5 GHZ G4 and a Superdrive or be a 1.67 GHZ G4 combo drive mac.

Any chance Apple could sell a 23" 2.3 GHZ G5 iMac ?

UK Mini Delivery..

is at 1-2 weeks, I'm sure it was 24 hours earlier. iBooks are still at 24 hours.

of course they can sell it. to me!!!

all i ask for is the 9650 and a video in so that you can use it as a monitor.

the question is if they can make it. technically it should be possible and with the switch to intel this marketing BS of line separation should go away. so i think there is hope for a 23" imac.

Yeah that's a good point. Apart from the 'Pizazz' of the tower, mentioned already, the iMac was a better buy, by a long shot.

I had recently ordered a stripped down (combo drive, no other options) PM SP (would have been a little over $1100 with edu discount and rebate). I already had a display and wanted the upgradability of the PM.

This morning I got an email in saying that it would not be ready for another week and a half, and that I had the option of cancelling my order. I went and checked out the refurbs that were available and saw a rev. B (PCI-X, 8 RAM slots) Dual 2.0 for $1649. I immediately cancelled my previous order, and ordered the 2.0 MP. I already have a 9800 SE 256, and 2GB of RAM waiting for hit. Can't wait. :D

JasonL, you might've got another email next week saying that the 1.8SP PM had been discontinued but would you like to switch to the new 1.8SP Mac mini just announced. Would you kick yourself?

Maybe the mini was a toe in the water for the headless Mac and now Apple want to exploit it’s success.

I’d have bought one in place of my 17” iMac had they been around last September just so I could upgrade the LCD quicker, and cheaper, than the whole bundle.

Yeh, sure it was 24hours on monday... i checked... now 1-2 weeks is great! I dont actually want or need a macmini but i'd love them to start giving their keyboards and mice away with them... cos sooo many people complain about that.

The prices should be dropped across the entire line. Put in the 1.67 Ghz G4 in the Mini, make all the eMacs shipping with G5. Intel is coming so it is time to go out with a bang with Motorola / IBM. Great products today that just need to be sold for less money. New cases and designs for '06 and '07.

The single 1.8 was a terrible deal, lucky the ones didn't have time to get them.

It is better to get an iMac in such case as long you do not need from PCI ports.

Always remember, I was the one telling Apple was in troubles with the G5, the G5 is not such fast processor, is way overrated.

An ibook update to 1.33 for 12'' and 1.5 for 14''. A PB update to 1.67 for 12'' and 1.8 for 15'' and 17''. Mac Mini to 1.33 and 1.5( or 1.42 and 1.67). And a Shuffle 1gb for 100( no screen) and 2gb 150( no screen, a SHUFFLE with a screen kills the point). 5g Ipod(ipod photo becomes the normal iPod) ,Sirus Radio, 30hr of life, comes in 30gb (Price-299) ,60gb(399) and 80gb.(499) Apple plans for the summer.( or my idea of what apple should do) Come on apple!!!

On a side note is it time for the eMac to go G5 ??? I know is could hurt the iMac sales but its time. The eMac could look like the iMac G4, but it would have a G5 chip just the G4 eMac looked like the iMac G3.
