I may be one of the people barbourdg is talking about. I posted about this yesterday.
I called Apple yesterday to ask a question about the 6+ SIM card and the gentleman offered to search all of Dallas/Fort Worth Apple stores for 6+s and he told me that NONE of the stores would have any on launch day. I am so glad I preordered but I feel sorry for folks that are camping out in hopes of getting a 6+.

Or the ones that can't wait a couple of days more and canceled their preorder.

Womp womp.

With around 250 apple stores in the US, this means that they would only deliver 5000 for launch. That's just a bunch of crap IMO. Bad info.

No idea why anybody is comparing to 5s or 5s Gold. Last time I checked, there were no pre-orders for the 5s, this year there was pre-orders for 6 plus. If supplies were so constrained, I highly doubt they would have done pre-orders.

Just my opinion. At this point people should know to take what an Apple Store employee tells you, at this time , with a grain of salt. So part time Apple Employee has NO clue on stock levels.

And the news: Apple sells out ALL their iPhone 6+ inventory.
ALL of it.

Which is 20 phones for the highest end stores.

;)

Remember, they sold 4 million iPhones in the preorder. This include both the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus AND orders for phones not being delivered on launch day. I could easily believe that there were fewer than, say, 500,000 iphone 6 pluses for launch day delivery which makes a crazy low number for in store walk ins more plausible.

You have suddenly made me optimistic. I was skeptical at first, but that was a great observation on your part.. Why do pre-orders for the 6+ if supplies are so constrained, and I assume Apple simply underestimated the demand for the 6+. I just gotta feeling that the preorder for the 6+ helped to determined that Apple needs to adapt to the demand..

ProTip:

I have a friend that was able to score a device late in the afternoon on a launch day at an apple store because they received the next day's shipment early.

So, if you don't get one early try going back later that afternoon 3, 4, 5, 6 pm.

They may be getting stock for Saturday in later that Friday.

20? Lol. Good luck with that happening in major cities. People would be pissed!

- Apple Stores get whats called "Drop Shipments" no idea what that means... Lets just say they dont know when or how many more iPhones they are getting until they are there...

Drop shipment simply means that the store doesn't order it themselves, someone else (Apple) orders it for them, and it just shows up. In the case of a new product launch, this makes sense, because it allows Apple to control supply chain to it's individual stores, rather than trying to field the requests of individual store managers/operators. I use drop shipping all the time in my photography business with my printer. I order prints, and the printer ships it straight to my client - sans any kind of packaging that it's from that printer.

Probably closer to 100 at flagship stores. Either way, good luck to those camping. They're going to need it.

I would be inclined to disbelieve that claim. One of my friends used to work at an Apple store and she told me they never are privy to that kind of information. They show up on launch morning and they're told what they have, but never before.

If you think it through, that's logical, and legally wise for many reasons. No one needs to know that information, especially when you have mobs of amped up people outside your glass doors.

I was talking to one of the employees and he said that he has to go in tonight at 8 with no idea of stock but they'll be setting up and stocking up.

Pray to the Apple gods there's ample stock of the 6+ haha

I'm honestly going to test my luck and head over to the Apple store early morning...hoping I can score a walk in and walk out...

Some of this sounds ridiculous. Realize that Foxconn is making Apple 140,000 6 Plus units PER DAY. Supplies will be limited, but not this insane.

Also, for those of you claiming Apple messed up by not planning to make enough 5.5" phones, step back a minute and take a breath. The real issue is production yields - the 6 Plus is around 50% while the 6 is around 85%. They simply can't get enough phones out of the Foxconn production facility.

I had my 9/12 confirmation email @ 12:48am PST (that was 3:38am for me) from Apple for a 128GB SG 6+ which apparently isn't expected to arrive until Oct1 or later. I'd honestly be a little peeved if a bunch of people are walking out with 6+'s when tons of us when through a lot of hassle to get preorders in during the first hour of ordering.

Either way, it seems someone dropped the ball, either by pushing preorders back, or by having such limited quantities in the retail stores and not telling people who may be waiting 24+ hours in line to get a 6+.

I contacted 4 AT&T stores near me in Tx. They are receiving 250 iphone 6 and plus combined. They are not letting associates know how many of each until the day of sale. So I'm pretty sure apple is getting more than anybody.

I haven't ever talked to an AT&T store in my entire history of buying iPhones on launch day that knew how much stock they were getting until it actually arrived that morning.

The same thing happened last year with the gold 5S. We started seeing these rumors the day before and they were ALL RIGHT!

Everything about this launch is lining up exactly the same as last year. If you think they are going to be loaded up on 6+ models, you're fooling yourself.

IMHO, there is no way these stores are only going to be stocking less than 20. That's the equivalent of a supermarket only stocking 10 turkeys for thanksgiving. Good luck to the campers.

Thanks for posting this thread. I was reading it before bed last night and woke up looking for it. Shame it's gone.

I believe it was real but there's no way to be sure of course.

A friend of mine manages and Apple Store but she's on vacation (good timing lol). She told me basically the same thing. The Plus is the next 5s Gold. She also shared with me she personally thinks Apple does it on purpose to drive up the hype but that's just speculation.

I thought employees weren't allowed to take vacation during launches...

THIS

I know it's great to be hopeful and positive and all... but folks, come ON. Don't bank on a + if you aren't the first 20 in line at an APPLE store, and even then be prepared to settle (if you want a 64GB silver, be ready for a 16GB gold).

On the plus side, even if you do have to settle, you could flip it right there for 3 times what you paid, and then wait a few months for what you want and essentially get it for free.

Of course, that assumes you aren't insane, and if you're on of the first 20 that probably rules that out :p

you guys realize this means apple made less than 10,000 iphone 6+ for in-store selling, which is highly unlikely.

My local Apple store (Christiana Mall, Delaware) is the highest volume store for iPhones in the entire United States. Yes, even ahead of the flagship stores in NYC and California. It's because we don't have sales tax, and 50%+ of phones sold there are for resale.

Last year on launch, my store had 8 Gold 5S's. I think the plus will be in extremely low supply tomorrow.

Right, but that article also states that they are making 400k regular 6 units per day, while I think over time the regular 6 will be more popular, on launch day demand for the 6+ will probably be higher. This is going to be a problem given how much fewer 6+'s are being made.

I could see that the first shipment might have been mostly preordered units and the blind drop is going to be whatever is left so that is why the employee's store only received 20 units. I doubt most stores will only receive 20 units, but the 6+ is going to go very fast, maybe not as fast as the gold phones did last year, but probably close. Also, if you want a specific carrier/color/size combo, unless you are among the first few in line, its probably not worth waiting.
