Apple is certainly not the only company that began building office spaces prior to a global pandemic but good that you found it entertaining at least.

Really? "Hey Joe you watch that game last night?!" There is WAY too much of THAT talk when in office. Last time I visited the office was a year ago at this point with 50 people in the office. I got 0 work done. Know what it was all about? Talking about sports, kids, what we have been up to personally, etc.

This has nothing to do with COVID, being environmentally conscious, or gas prices for these workers. They just got used to watching Netflix while they actually ‘work’ 10 minutes for every hour they’re supposedly on the clock.

Then managers need to do their job and fire them if they are not performing after you told them to stop. How is it any different if someone is in the office goofing off and switching their tab or program when their boss walks by?

I'm not sure when our culture shifted to employees attempting to dictate to their employer how things are going to go, but it's the mark of a failed society.

There are many people who would love to work for Apple and would gladly show up to that beautiful new campus. Maybe they should get their chance.

Human beings need designated spaces; a space for relaxation/play, and a separate space for work and productivity. Working from home blurs these lines, and anyone who does the mental gymnastics required to convince themselves and their employers that they're as productive at home as they are in a dedicated workspace is kidding themselves.

I have wasted hours a day being distracted while in the office years ago due to people chatting about kids or football or some movie they watched last night. I tried to get them to stop, but my cubicle was RIGHT NEXT to theirs. It was unavoidable.

Now that I am home, I do not have those distractions. And people still are able to "tap my shoulder" for help with IT needs by jumping on a Slack call. Its more effective since I can have them share their screen right away instead of walking to another floor to see their desk.

I work from home. Don’t claim that there are fewer distractions. And I don’t even have kids. The number of times my wife needs me to do something during the day or calls from work or there is some house project appointment.

I am single, no wife or girlfriend or friends or family allowed at my house while I am working (I treat it is if I wouldn't have them sit next to my cubicle while I am in the office - obviously some rare exceptions but those can be done during 15 minute break or lunch breaks). I have no pets, no kids and a dedicated office space with no TV. Yes it is much much MUCH less distracting.

I haven’t seen a single person make that argument, but I guess if you have no real points to make then inventing something that works on your favour is the next best thing.

I think the office environment though meant if you got your work done in 6hrs you didn’t then just waste the rest. You was in and office and couldn’t leave without drawing attention. So you would end up doing other work or being give more work.

WFH allows people to do the work in 6hrs and pretend it took 8.

Have you looked around? I have seen many people fire up Amazon or look at Reddit or look at news for a long time. And when the boss comes by, they quickly switch their screens to what they are supposed to be doing. Sometimes people use their phone instead so its not on the company computer.

The real issue here is that people moved out during the pandemic. Their wages went up 5%. Now if they want to move back, rent and house prices are up 30%. They could barely make ends meet before. Now it just won’t work. They’ll quit before coming back to work. Of course this is hard for Apple management to grasp when they are selling stock and pocketing millions of dollars.

The problem with this is people want to have their cake and eat it to. If you moved, and far, it should be reported and sometimes wages adjusted. Instead you decided to not say a word, you meaning whomever did it, and enjoyed the additional pay with no penalty. I don't want to hear people crying about having to pay more when they made more for less. The coming times will allow the adults to rise to the top again. Get back in or go find something else if you're so good you don't think you're expendable. You're likely going to find out otherwise.

Seriously, if you want to work from home, start your own company, make your income reliant on your own self, and see if the hours suit you for the compensation. Otherwise, respect the wishes of the employer whose terms you agreed to when you were hired. And yes, Seek3r, labor DOES sometimes have valid grievances…but these particular WFH ones are whiny baby grievances and dilute the entire point of organized labor.

This is completely wrong. If the company doesn’t want to honor your request to work from home, you should absolutely leave and get a job with a company that values productivity and not BS at the office. That is if you are worth a damn as an expert in any field. If you are not worth a damn, then you will do exactly like your employer tells you to keep the job because you are not sure you can get it elsewhere.
